Last weekend, in a sit-down with bloggers during the Young Republicans convention in Indiana, RNC Chairman Michael Steele revealed his strategy for attracting diverse Republicans.

Cameron Cowan of The Mile Hive, a Denver blog, asked Steele what his plan is for including "diverse populations" into the Republican party.

"My plan is to say, 'Ya'll come!" Steele said, adding, "I got the fried chicken and potato salad!"

Okay, I'm not a Steele fan, but this is slightly unfair. His "I got the fried chicken and potato salad!" is a response to the off camera comment "I'll bring the collard greens."
He says enough silly things, don't waste times on the gotcha stuff -- it falls flat and does little good.

I don't think it was "gotcha" in the sense of making Steele look like a racist. But it's still funny, not least because he seems to think that the way to attract people beyond white Southerners is to say "Y'all come, we got collard greens, fried chicken, and potato salad!"

Speaking of silly things - how about when he says the Bill of Rights had something to do with abolishing slavery, and that prove that the modern-day Republican party is inclusive. At least I think that's what he said - it was such an incoherent jumble that it was hard to figure out what the hell he was saying.

"When all the world is saying that [black people] are [slaves], our party said that they are not."

This is wrong and stupid on so many levels...

And with this, the GOP implosion has officially transitioned from Hindenburg flameout to pure comedy.

I thought it was funny, it goes along with his "how we wear our baseball caps differently" and hip-hop strategies. After hours of watching the sotomayor hearings, i was totally up for some chuckles!

It's all in the records of the Department of Law over there at the White House.

To the transcriber: though a buffoon, I'm sure Steele would spell "y'all" correctly.

There wasn't a Republican party when the constitution was written.
That document included a phrase that counted slaves as a percentage of a free (read white male).
Republicans have been playing the race card for a long time. You would have to be blind and deaf to miss that one, or maybe just someone who doesn't want to be confused by the truth.
Steele seems to be the sort who thinks a Step'n'Fetchit act is the hight of graceful performance.
I think he is getting away with this because no one is listening.
The Repo's would love to fire the guy, but that would play badly in their "inclusion" rap.
Why is it that the Grand Old Party, (which came into being w/lincoln) picks complete idiots to represent various racial groups?
Could it be that anyone brighter call bullshit on them?
Oh but there is Condi Rice. Now she is a pet. To bad she couldn't use her brains to tell the truth rather than slicing a thin line of lies.
