A man who held a sign reading 'Death To Obama, Death To Michelle And Her Two Stupid Kids' at a town hall in Maryland yesterday has been detained by the Secret Service, according to the AP.
The Hill first reported on the sign yesterday afternoon. The man in question was attending a town hall event held by Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) at Hagerstown Community College.
Washington County Sheriff's Captain Peter Lazich said the as-yet-unidentified, 51-year-old man was detained by deputies near the entrance to the college after receiving multiple calls from people in attendance at the event. According to Lazich, the man was turned over to the Secret Service by the sheriff's office.
Barbara Golden, special agent in charge of the agency's Baltimore field office, said Thursday that an investigation is ongoing but declined further comment. A spokesman at the agency's Washington headquarters also declined to discuss the investigation.
Sen. Cardin's office did not immediately return a call for comment.

FINALLY! Anyone who says or holds up a sign saying that they are threatening the life of anyone but especially elected officials needs to be detained. Then get the search warrant to find the trailer full of illegal weapons and loony literature and put them someplace.

And these are the people we are supposed to include in an honest and serious debate about health care reform?
Any debate about the future of this country should first begin with the basis that President Obama is not a citizen who also wants to setup "death panels" to kill your grandma. From there, all serious debates can begin.

Look, the demonization of anybody who disagrees with the liberal point of view began a long time ago. You make people with "their religion and guns" out to be fanatics. You blow them away in Ruby Ridge, or you gas them all in a building as in Waco. If a conservative patriot by inclination if not birth wants freedom and risks life and limb to traverse the waters between Cuba and Florida, has a child here and then dies, you have Janet Reno storm the home of the family who is fostering the child and black booted thugs then whisk the child back to Barak's buddy, Fidel Castro. That lover of freedom, free thinking authors, and purveryor of universal health care. And, of course, you let intellects like Michael Moore and Alec Baldwin spew hate with abandon. Mary Jo Kopechne meanwhile would be 69 this year.

In Bush's day, they would follow you home and if you lived in section 8 housing, you would lose it. If you job got Government funding, you would lose it. If you attempted to fly on a plane, guess what?

There are hundreds of examples. Heck, watch the movie Fahrenheit 911 for example. As I recall, one guy in the movie as much as disagreed with Bush and he received a visit from the Secret Service. Many others were put on the laughable no fly list. I say laughable since it was abused so much by Bush for political purposes.

A 14-year-old Sacramento girl named Julia Wilson was pulled out of her biology class in October 2006 by Secret Service agents because she wrote "Kill Bush" on MySpace and posted a cartoonish photo-collage of a knife stabbing the hand of the president.

Remember the case in Wyoming/Idaho/Montana where I guy sitting in a bar 3 or 400 miles away from an ongoing bush visit made some joke about a "burningbush" ala biblical reference and ended up doing time in a federal pen.
Compare that to the losers in Denver who were caught with weapons and talking up murdering Obama and the local AUSA decided that it wasn't a "real" threat and declined to prosecute.
Sad part is that Obama has left most of the political hacks that bush appointed in the AUSA positions.

The pen is mightier than the sword, someone said, so as crazy as it may seem, a "death to ..." sign is a threat, but a holstered, loaded gun is not. Open carrying is not illegal in N.H., so what could they do but keep a sniper on the guy the whole time. (I'd be surprised if they hadn't, and the guy is lucky he didn't have a nervous tic.)

It is a criminal offense to threaten the life of the president, even "just talk." If you're sitting in a bar and say "I'd like to kill that Obama b****rd," you can get a jail term. On the one hand, it seems like overly restrictive. On the other, we've already had three arrests of right wingers with weapons and plans for killing Obama.
I think there is something fundamentally wrong with individuals and movements who openly advocate murdering individuals with whom they disagree. But, I'm not a Republican. They don't seem to have that hangup.

Folks contact the local and msm with this - requesting they cover it - it only takes 3 minutes to fire off an email. It's up on HuffPo too - this needs to appear on the national networks. It's all going too far. I fear that someone is going to get hurt if this keeps up.

I commend Captain Peter Lazich for his quick action in arresting this individual.

This is one indication that majority of the right does NOT wish for a dialogue of any sort. They absolutely hate everybody who disagrees with them. In their minds, we are not their countrymen with an alternative view, we are their mortal enemies.
Their dream was for a world of myth, run by a white, John Wayne father figure, constantly vanquishing over non-believers, constantly demonizing the poor, for ever and ever. We, by not participating in their dream, are destroying them. And thus they hate us.
Meanwhile, we want to discuss prescription drug coverage. So, this dialogue ain't going anywhere.
There will be no other way to deal with them. We must essentially destroy their political parties, keep them down like caged dogs. Every time they seize power, we must expect a loss of civil liberties, an expansion of executive privilege, an assault on democracy. We musn't take them seriously or dialogue on a peer level, but take them as they are, sworn enemies.
Hopefully, we can come out the other side a democracy where the remaining factions can still speak to each other as peers and citizens.
