In a column for Townhall.com, action star and conservative activist Chuck Norris calls on tea partiers to stop using the modern American flag as a means of protest against the current administration. And if you insist on using the 50-star flag, well, you can buy a tea-stained one for just $73.50 to show "solidarity with our Founders."
Praising the tea party movement across the nation that culminated in the 9/12 march on Washington, D.C., Norris insists that it's "nonpartisan" and "nonpolitical." Quoting George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and John Adams, the martial arts star also blasts the Obama administration (in a nonpartisan, nonpolitical fashion) for pledging "$900 million in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza and Mahmoud Abbas' Palestinian Authority." That aid is going through nongovernmental organizations to help rebuild Gaza, not Hamas.
Read the column after the jump.
Excerpt from the column:
As 9/12 concluded, we all heard many ways to keep this revolutionary movement going. But I was sitting back thinking there's one way we can take a daily stand and declare that as for me and my house, we will serve God and the republic as the Founders did.If that describes you, then I suggest you fly some revolutionary flag in lieu of your 50-star flag over the next year. Post the 13-star Betsy Ross flag, Navy Jack or Gadsden flag ("Don't Tread on Me") or any representation that tells the story of Old Glory and makes a stand for our Founders' vision of America.
Of course, patriots know that the 50-star flag truly represents one nation under God and our Founders' republic, but modernists simply don't get it. So what do you say we make a statement by flying a different flag and educate our neighbors when they ask us, "Why are you flying that flag instead of the contemporary Stars and Stripes?" (If you insist on posting a modern USA flag, too, then get one that is tea-stained to show your solidarity with our Founders.)
Know a few other patriots? Then please pass along this vintage-flag-posting encouragement to them, as well, and make our Founders proud. And let's remind the U.S. government, "Don't tread on me!"

No, it is constitutionally protected free speech to desecrate a flag (as it should be). These people are completely allowed to stain a flag (or overpay for a prestained one) to protest whatever they like. The fact that they completely misunderstand the things they are protesting does, however, make them jackasses.
And there is an extreme hypocrisy here. The right has long whined about creating laws making it illegal to burn flags (liberal protest move from way back) and now they are doing their own flag desecration. Anyone for a little flag burning outside of Norris events? (Wow, I thought I could at least pretend to care that much but no, no I can't)

Well to say nothing of the factually incorrect statement of "Of course, patriots know that the 50-star flag truly represents one nation under God and our Founders' republic, but modernists simply don't get it."
What Chuck Norris et. al. don't get is that the Founders did not add "under God", the modernists did.

Excellent point.
Slightly off topic: A friend of mine sent me a copy this morning of a daily devotional that she received from some online Lutheran ministry. It was a reflection on the arresting of some 150 non-Muslims in Egypt for not fasting during Ramadan (which, I'll add, had nothing to do with why my friend sent the e-mail); I nearly choked on the following phrase in it: "While Christians don't demand unbelievers follow their customs or make the sacrifices they do..."

So deface the flag which is illegal to show how great a patriot you are? Only in this inverted disturbed world these people live in. And had Chuck Norris been around during the time of the Revolutionary War he would not have been with the less than 5% of the population who was for it but with the large majority who supported the Tory party and King George.

That estimate is too low. it is more like 40% support, 15% loyalist, according to wikipedia

Certainly a small cadre of intellecutal rabbel rousers like Thomas Paine ignited the match, but popular support was certainly more than 5%

It is not illegal to deface an American flag. Nor should it be. It is a breach of established flag etiquette, but it is not illegal.
The American Revolution had more than 5% support among the populace; it was difficult enough with the support they had, and if it had been at only 5%, it would certainly have failed. John Adams at one point estimated that about 1/3 of the populace was strongly behind independence, 1/3 were strongly opposed, and the remaining 1/3 were on the fence and pretty much willing to go along with whichever side looked like it would prevail.

How about the U.S. Flag Code, Title 4, chapter of the U.S. Code? (http://assembler.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode04/usc_sup_01_4_10_1.html) I didn't find anything on-point, but it's very dark humor for such an uber-patriot as Chuck "Nonpartisan" Norris to recommend people display "desecrated" flags.
Section 8 covers "Respect for flag". When I lived in right-wing suburbia in the Houston area, I saw hundreds of violations and if a flag desecration amendment had been passed, as my protest against such an ignorant defilement of the Constitution, I would have had no qualms about turning in these "patriots" who bought their flags after 9/11/01 and displayed the ever more tattered flags night and day, sunshine and rain, with no lights at night.

also, from what I have heard, please add or correct (other than opinion, please):
the only time a flag should be flown from an automobile is in a parade, or motorcade that's traveling under 35 mph. This would mean that all those folks who proudly post the flag from their car windows as they fly down the freeway, with the flag whipping (and ripping) in the wind, would be guilty of defacing the flag. Anybody have evidence to discredit, or support this notion?

Wow...Yet another christian clinging to the "our Founding Fathers were Christians!" myth. We serve god, but we'll lie, cheat and backstab our way to what we want. 'Cause we're the REAL Americans!

Hey Chuck... MAKE ME!
Isn't that what you really want? To impose your beliefs on me? To force me to adhere to your creed? And aren't you encouraging others to impose their prejudice on their neighbors, in the name of blind nationalism, not the free spirit of America?
When are the wingnuts going to learn how selfish they look when they equate the inevitable rogressive changes that are happening now with their desperate need to keep some sort of status quo that they themselves can not even describe, other than by twisting the words of the founders to match their contemporary misguided political passions.
I know your type. You think your certitude about issues and your martial arts give you the power to demand the same opinion in others.
So, if you walked into a gym and told me to stain a flag to prove I'm a good American, I would say "Make me", knowing full well you could hurt me. Would you strike a blow for the tea-stained flag?
And then you'd have something a bit more crimson and traditional than tea to use for a stain.
But I would still challenge you to do it, maybe for a moment you would understand how your violence only perpetuates the worst angels of our nature, and does nothing to earn the yet-to-be won glory of our founding principles.

These misguided Americans are having a hard time swallowing the fact that their grand old party lost the presidential election, the Democrats have control of two federal branches of government and worse, the country now has a black president. Thus, it is no coinsidence that they are rabid and want to revolt in hopes of a coup d'etat. Interesting however, that these individuals are genuinely concerned with the country's deficit, unresponsive government, loss of liberties and no ammunition on store shelves. Where were they during GOP's CONTRACT ON AMERICA?

I'm sad here that I'm the only one that knows facts about Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris can kill 2 stones with 1 bird.

I think I am going to melt some Hershey bars and start making some brown-stained flag lapel pins. A little cottage industry in hard times. Maybe $19.95 plus S/H.

I cannot believe you liberals are mocking Chuck Norris who fought valiantly for this country in several movies and devoted his life to fighting criminals in a Texas Ranger on television.
Get real!
Oh, wait a minute, that was just acting? So do you think he may be acting now to sell flags? What? Is the exercise fad fading?
How typical! This is non-politcal?!? He makes the flag the centerpiece of a protest and declares this is non-political. He is pi$$ing down our backs and telling us it's raining. Flags are political. I will give him non-partisan. Obviously he is not representing any political party because his purpose is to destroy this country all the while suggesting he can destroy government without losing the country. The country is the government and the people have chosen Obama to be the President. Just because he did not mean the country has vanished.
