Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) of "You Lie!" fame wasn't the only GOPer to show President Obama something less than complete respect during last night's speech on health care before a joint session of Congress.
The Swamp reports that a few minutes before Obama's speech ended last night, Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) stood up and walked out.
The Swamp explains that Shimkus' spokesman rationalized the walkout this way: "Congressman Shimkus was frustrated that the president was not offering any new ground and left with just minutes remaining in the speech."
Just as Sen. Lindsey Graham did earlier, Shimkus took issue with the President's tone, with his spokesman saying that "the tone did not bring Republicans on board."
I've heard of walking out of movies, but this...

I am not sure why any Rs showed up. Their not interested in serious health care reform. Listening to them talk today it sounds like they weren't listening to the President anyways.

If they didn't show up, the Dems could have brought legislation to the floor and passed a single payer healthcare bill on the spot.
Well, the GOP would pull such a maneuver in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed. One can dream, at least...

What the *&%^#$^ is happening!??! Palin (of all people) is lecturing Obama on "civility;" various Reps. are saying he isn't warm and friendly or truthful enough (hey try showing him warm and friendly, and being honest, some time!), and Michael Steele is telling Obmaa how he should deal with his own good friend?????? And THESE are the people who don't believe in government intrusion??? Are they engaged in helping run a country or opening up a branch of Miss Manners' School of Social Graces? You know, you would have thought it was impossible, but I honestly thing the Republicans have found a brand *new* hole to dig for themselves!

He should have done the polite thing: held up handwritten signs, played with his Blackberry, taken a nap, or mentally reviewed the eloquent brilliance and congeniality of the last President.

It's quite obvious the House GOP had concocted a little plan. They had their health care plans to wave, some had signs written on the back, they had their group guffaws ready, a couple even walked out. And of course Joe Wilson yelled a little too loudly (somebody else yelled something before him, but I guess now loudly enough to get noticed).
I wish all of these acts would get focused and not just Wilson.
It was a concerted effort to teabag the speech. These old white men wanted to go back to their teabagger base and say "Did you see what I did, I'm with you".

but that's why he's the Pres and I'll never be.

Are you sure it wasn't Wilson himself yelling the first time as well? I couldn't tell, obviously, but Pelosi seemed to know exactly where to look (and to cue Biden where to look) -- and there was no clear difference in the voice that I could tell.
I guess it's a little "conspiratorial" but I did laugh today when someone said that Michelle Bachman was sulking because *she* wasn't the one chosen to be the designated heckler. -- Given the coordination of the rest, clumsy tho it may have been, you have to wonder. If it was Wilson the first time also ..... then it's a tad harder to believe that it was just an unplanned, impulsive emotional outburst. ("What? You didn't hear my impulsive, just slipped out of my mouth comment? Here, let me say it more clearly so the microphones are sure to pick up what I'm saying and I can maybe grab the news cycle tomorrow.")

Shorter GOP: "WAAAAAAHHHHH! We're not getting our bottoms kissed!"
As to Palin and Steele, they, like the rest of the GOP, has two sets of rules for everything; one very stringent that the Dems should adhere to, and one very loose that they themselves follow. IOKIYAR is alive and well.

The Republicans are not interested in what is good for the country. The are all solely focused on what is best for them as a party. They are dead as a functioning player in national two party governance. The sooner this fact becomes obvious to all, the sooner a new party can rise from their ashes and take that empty place.

These guys come to your house, piss on the carpets and then go tell your neighbors you're inhospitable. Republicans are little more than ignorant a-holes, and proud of it. I don't mean as a group, I mean it seems to be their platform.

The official GOP response given by Charles Boustany was proof that they hadn't listened to or read Obama's speech beforehand. Not only was it short, it basically repeated all the claims that Obama refuted item by item (ie. government takeover of healthcare). And if the GOP really does have a plan, why didn't they say what it was in that response? Simply telling people to go to healthcare.gop.gov to see their plan doesn't quite work when the webpage itself doesn't really state that they have a plan. A list of general principals doesn't count...

Shorter entire rightwing (includes 95% of elected Republicans):
"OW!!! BUTTHURT, BUTTHURT!!! NO FAIR ME NO GET MY WAY!!!!"
The image that immediately springs to mind to sum up the behavoir of Republicans in general is that of a young child, laying on the floor writhing and screaming, drumming his heels.

I've had similar images in my mind. The Rethugs no longer have the control they had for 8 years. So now they're stomping their feet and screaming at the top of their lungs because their favorite toy (the U.S. government) has been taken away from them.

Obama handled it exactly right -- gracefully accepting Wilson's "apology." Exactly as an alpha should behave.
Those in this country who can accept being led by (He has a nerve. Who does that uppity *i**e* think he is.) a multiracial president are really turned off by Wilson and his crew. The teabaggers had little effect on moving public opinion and when they were compared to Obama and his speech they lost considerable ground.
In a growing state of denial, that provincial, southern, white, less educated, more resentful party will eventually choke on its own venom.
