Second GOP Senator Calls For 'Regime Change' In Iran

Earlier we told you about Sen. Jon Kyl's (R-AZ) plan for Iran: sticks and "regime change."

Well, apparently Kyl's not the only GOP Senator pushing regime change in Iran today. Here's Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) on FOX News Sunday:

We have to have strong sanctions, economic sanctions that can force either a regime change or the Ayatollahs to change their policy.

To be fair, Bond's suggesting sanctions -- not some all-out attack or covert military operation -- as the way to achieve regime change. But he is pushing regime change nonetheless. He also needled those suggesting diplomacy.

Today's action in firing the missiles is really a poke in the eye to those who think that diplomatic efforts and agreements and inspections are going to change the way Iran's going.

For those keeping score at home, that's now no fewer than two Republican Senators who called today for regime change in Iran.

These neo-cons aren't going to stop until they've "democratized" every country in the middle east. Complete with permanent US bases, friendly corrupt puppet regimes and favorable policies towards US "investment".

Granted, I didn't think "democratized" was a real word when I started writing but I'm pretty sure that it's not something which can be imposed by an external power (I'm American so my understanding of democracy is all kinds of warped and may be way off). I do however think "neo-con" is a great label although their cons are all starting to look the same.

wouldn't this kind of kill off the,
"we are just fiscal conservatives concerned about the national debt" argument they are trying to use on the heath care legislation?

don't spend it on affordable health care for U.S. citizens, spend it on yet another war in the middle east!

Nah. To neo-cons, it's worth whatever it takes to get rid of people who scare them. Helping people, however, has to be done on the cheap.

Kit Bond is from MO, not TN. He's also stepping down after the next election, so it's a curious time for him to be doing some posturing.

Hey, here's an idea. Let's help some of our Saudi connections help Pakistan attack New York, then blame it on Afghanistan so we can attack Iran!

We dictated Iran's course in 2003.

Around that time, North Korea boasted a much more plausible claim of nuclear capability than Iraq ever did. We were so terrified of WMD reaching American cities that we invaded Iraq and ignored North Korea in the hopes it would go away.

Moral: If you're in any position to upset the American petro-diplomatic apple-cart, have a no-shit nuclear capability. Otherwise, we're invading.

Do you ever wonder why these guys, after a real election which delivered a mandate to the winner, act like they're still in charge?
I'm starting to think it's because they are.

RE: "that's now no fewer than two Republican Senators who called today for regime change in Iran"

MY COMMENT: Ahmadinejad should thank these bozos for supplying him with proof that the U.S. is trying to meddle in internal Iranian affairs. This will probably deal the death blow to his opposition and help Ahmadinejad rally the Iranians around both the flag and his regime. But then, that might just be the goal of Kyl, Bond and others of like ilk.

Also Important : Will any member of Congress speak out against bombing Iran ?

I bet you a coke not one elected person will speak against it.

The Bomb-Iran plotters do not care what the public think - they go straight to the White House and to the White House.

Our country goes around starting wars - reasoning that we must start wars to prevent war.

What is wrong with our country ? We are seriously off course.

I'm sure you'll all be surprised to find that neither Kyl nor Bond served in the military. I know I was.

"In 1953, despite a series of gaffes, the CIA succeeded in installing the Shah of Iran, a more or less fascist dictator whose oppressive looting of the nation benefited the U.S. for a couple decades, but ultimately bred the Islamic revolution that brought the Ayatollah Khomeini to power in the 1970s (a revolution which caught the CIA completely by surprise)."

None of the loudest mouths from the Republican Party served in the military. The Republican Party acts like they are still in charge because they have policies that favor corporations. Corporations control and influence how information is disseminated. Consequently, it's not surprising for Michael Moore to increase his criticism of Democrats leading up to a vote on important legislation. It's also not surprising to hear Rachel Maddow refer to Democrats as "weak." She can add that to her "Obama equals Bush" meme(after a whopping two months). Throw in the "talk me down(off a roof)" segement. That was meant to demoralize the troops. Fear and demoralization are two tools the aristocracy use to control the masses.

Indeed, kth. GOP loves sending *other peoples' children* to their deaths. (To be fair, it's a volunteer army, the kids signs themselves up. To be unfair, our own government lies to it's citizens whenever they open their mouth, so a good portion of the population really doesn't know how evil our government is.)

"GOP wants LIVE babies so they can raise them to be DEAD soldiers."

All as expected from the Republican Party, but will Obama attack Iran?

There have been many dubious statements on Iran from the President. He asserted that Iran is working on nuclear weapons (contradicted by our NIE and recent update to it), and said that Iran's second enrichment plan violates international law (it does not).

I am becoming increasingly concerned that the President will order military strikes, when our/Israeli belligerent tone and continued threats of imminent attack will scuttle the upcoming negotiations.

This will be an almost perfectly identical repeat of the Iraqi disaster under Bush. But I guess most of our media and most Obama supporters (myself excluding) really don't remember that far.

Well what a suprise. GOP chickenhawks cavalierly calling for military action against another country. As usual they are ALWAYS eager to fight, as long as somebody else does the actual fighting.

Why doesn't the media ask them why their own children are not serving in these wars that they love so much and claim to be so neccessary?

The real political shame is that the Democrats lack of a spine has allowed this right-wing propoganda to cause the death of countless Iraqi's and 4000+ U.S. military personel in Iraq.

Haven't these flag-draped phony patriots caused enough harm? How much of their victims blood do these bastards need to be covered in before the Democrats start calling these war mongering chickenhawks as the hypocritical frauds and cowards that they are?

Where the hell do these morons think we are getting these troops from? Surge in Afghanistan? Sure. War with Iran? No problem.

It's just mind boggling how detached from reality and cavalier with human life these people are.
