Fox's Glenn Beck yesterday shot back at a former Fox correspondent who said she left, in part, because of Beck's "scary" and "over the top" language.
"Here's this idiot that left Fox," Beck said on his radio show, points out Media Matters. "Well, don't let the door hit you on the ass when you leave."
Beck was responding to American University professor Jane Hall, who said on CNN Sunday that she left Fox because of a lack of debate.
"I'm also frankly uncomfortable with Beck, who I think should be called out as somebody whose language is way over the top and scary," Hall said. (Fox News has contested Hall's version of events, telling Mediaite the network didn't renew her contract.)
"My language is scary!" Beck shot back Monday. "Since when did language become scary? Boy, I put a lot of that language in books. Maybe we should gather all those books together and burn them as well. Because there is language in there. I wouldn't want to scare anyone. Read our Founding Fathers, you want scary language. Read the Founding Fathers."
"We haven't even gotten to the scary language yet."
Listen:
"It's me, I'm the dangerous one ... for speaking the truth," Beck went on. "But the fact that there are communists, Maoists, socialists, Marxists, anti-free market people in and around the United States government, who are redesigning our government, isn't a concern to anybody. Really?"

This guy surely didn't get his ass whipped often enough when he was growing up. Spare the rod , spoil the child, so to speak.

Charming. No wonder the LDS faith is so pleased to have him as a member.

The language of incitement to overthrow the government by force isn't scary per se, it's just illegal and borders on treasonous.

Who is the idiot? The wacky morning DJ with a High School Education who follows a crazy Mormon (5000 Year Leap) or the professor with a Master's degree from the Columbia School of Journalism? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I honestly believe that Beck is mentally ill. I was appalled that CNN gave that lunatic a program and am even appalled that Fox would do so given the fact that he really is just a raving right wing extremist of the sort that never would have been allowed on the air when the news business was still about the news.

I suspect that he's found that attention is a substitute for his prior addictions, and his present audience is the only one he's capable of attracting.
I'm sure there's a healthy does of ker-ching too.
The mental illness aspect is one of the few possible explanations I can come up with for his(to me,) baffling sense of persecution.

Somebody should point out to Beck that if you need to remind your viewers NOT to blow stuff up, you're probably doing something scary.

Beck - Why do you need a bodyguard??? Did you get some hate-mail with some "scary language" in it?
What are you scared of? They're just words.

"Well, don't let the door hit you on the ass when you leave."
That's it, Beck - make that "tent" for the GOP even smaller until you're just a bunch of loonies ranting over in the corner of American politics.

Ms Hall seems to have problems with views that run contrary to hers. If she wants to leave the talbe, that is her choice.
What Ms. Hall is actually uncomfortable with is that Beck's message is resonating with a substantial constituency.
She should ask the question why and address the answer rather than flounce out with a huff.
My guess is that she hasn't a clue as to why Beck is popular and has even less of a clue as to how to address his constituency.
My guess also is that her presence on Fox no longer provided the career the boost that it once did.

I know why Beck's message is resonating with a consitutency (I'd hesitate to call it "substantial")--there are a lot of batshit crazy people out there who will believe anything as long as it fits their preconceived prejudices. Simple as that.
Opinions are only valid and worthy of respect and debate if they have a basis in fact. Beck's whole world view comes from some whacked-out fantasyland, and is therefore not a view that needs to be validated, respected, or debated.
Anybody who buys the load of b.s. Beck is selling is more than a few cards shy of a full deck. The problem with this is that those people are also the most volatile, and are consequently dangerous to others. It only takes one fired-up "patriot" like Tim McVeigh to hurt a lot of people. We should ALL be uncomfortable with that.
