Former President George W. Bush has got a whole new gang. Goodbye, Condi, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Hello, Terry Bradshaw, Zig Ziglar and Rudy Giuliani.
Bradshaw, Ziglar and Giuliani are among the other featured speakers at an Oct. 26 "Get Motivated!" business seminar in Fort Worth, TX, where the former president will be the "special guest speaker." That won't be Bush's only Get Motivated appearance. See the full image promoting his Dec. 2 seminar here.
The all-day event next week will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena. Tickets are apparently $19. That's not per person -- that's per office.
The Get Motivated seminar is, according to its website, "world famous for its energizing, action-packed, star-studded, fun-filled, spectacular stage show. CNN, 60 Minutes, USA Today, TIME, PEOPLE, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal all rave about it! This motivational mega-show packs more inspirational firepower than a stick of dynamite!"
For more than 25 years, corporate leaders, Fortune 500 companies, educators, business owners, salespeople, medical professionals and more have made Peter and Tamara Lowe's GET MOTIVATED! America's #1 Business Seminar.
We've reported on Get Motivated before, but still, Bush's planned involvement came as something of a surprise.
Besides Bradshaw ("legendary NFL Hall of Fame quarterback), Ziglar ("America's #1 motivator") and Giuliani ("America's mayor"), Bush will appear at the Fort Worth event with Colin Powell ("legendary soldier-statesman"), Robert Schuller ("America's best inspirational speaker"), Rick Belluzzo ("legendary president of Microsoft") and Tamara Lowe ("top sales expert and author of Get Motivated!").
Although the former president doesn't get such a superlative handle on Get Motivated's site, we can only assume that between his MBA and superb handling of the economy it'd be something like "America's #1 Expert On Business Success."
Next week's event is only the beginning -- Bush will also be the featured guest speaker at a Get Motivated seminar on Dec. 2. See the full image here.

A bunch of old super rich white men bookend by two African Americans and a woman in the center.
They could have just bookend the photo with children who lost their parents in Iraq, and had the Iraqi shoe thrower in the center.
That's inspiration for you.

Bush can be a great motivator - just by counterexample.
Either that, or his part of the stage show will be audience participation where everybody that's had to take a crappier job because of the recession can shit on his face. That'd be quite a motivator.

In August 1999, Belluzzo left SGI to head Microsoft's MSN division. He eventually became President and Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft for fourteen months, but left in Spring 2002, taking the reins at Quantum in September the same year.
Much of his career is clouded in controversy and many consider him to be responsible for the demise of SGI. - wikipedia
Any moron can bankrupt a commodity clone PC maker. It takes a Legendary Moron to take a company like SGI (well defined market niche, excellent reputation for quality, huge cultish following), turn it into commodity clone PC maker and *then* bankrupt it.

This whole event is some kind of money-laundering operation. The admission fee is way too low for this kind of thing: usually they are over $100 bucks a head, and that only has to pay one or two speakers. It's a combination money funnel/GOP infomercial funded by the Moon church.

I am looking all over the ad but I can't seem to find what exactly it is they are trying to "motivate" me to do. I feel motivated to hawk a loogie and bust my gut laughing, but thats about it.
The irony is, if Colin Powell decided to write a tell-all book about his tenure on the White House staff (including with Pappy), and switch parties, he'd become a Democratic Superstar. Liberals would be throwing him parties for $2000 a head.
But then, I guess that unwavering loyalty is kind of what makes Powell so admirable in the first place...

Bush is an embarassment. One thing though, why all the attention to the $19 fee? The real shame is Obama's raising $3 million from the monied elite in NYC yesterday. I guess it's ok to sell access for $15,000 a ticket as opposed to $19.
Why no outrage about that? Why is the spectacle of the wealthy buying access to a sitting president less unseemly than the buffoon Bush selling access to himself for middle and lower income people?

I went to see Bill Clinton speak last fall in London, Ontario because a friend of mine was given free tickets (they were between $100-$1000 to purchase). I ended up just being saddened by the spectacle. The event, promoted by "The Power Within" (http://www.powerwithin.com/), kicked off with some spirited techno music, followed by a delightful performance by basically a boy band, and then the big dog's speech and a ridiculous "Q &A" between Clinton and a former Canadian Cabinet member who's now a bank executive. Of course we did learn that we really do have the power within to run our small businesses in a globalized economy...
I went expecting to listen to one of the big minds of his generation talk at a pivotal moment in history, after last year's collapse and the election. And I'll likely never forget sitting about 20 feet from one of my heroes for an hour and a half one november. But I just left feeling empty.

FWIW, I attended basically this same seminar in OKC in June (my company bought tix; I suspect they paid more than $19--or even $19 apiece--although our seats were up in "the nosebleeds"). We had Joe Montana instead of Bradshaw. Lunch was absolutely NOT included.
I'd say the high point was that Colin Powell actually did a startlingly good impression of Ronald Reagan. We had Steve Forbes ("Teve Torbes!" w/ his "Victor Mature-like scent") harangue our W-lovin' crowd for an hour about the glories of the so-called "Flat Tax" that would so benefit him and the other millionaires on stage.
nellieh pretty much nailed it w/ this:
Peter and Tamara! The new Jim and Tammy Faye! When do they open their Motivation Amusement Park? This is no different than your local motel ballroom hustle. Only on a larger scale. Just a con, right up W's alley.
In between speakers were basically infomercials for whatever great-sounding scheme the presenter was selling. The one I came closest to biting on was for an interesting(-sounding) stock-analysis software and training program. One of my coworkers bit for about $100. I'm checking in w/ her to see how it's going. She's still coming to work--not "laying on a beach earning 20%", so I'm still feeling comfortable w/ my walking away.

I went to the site and not only is W doing 2 shows with the Lowes, but wife of W is doing 3 shows with the Lowes in Charlotte, Jacksonville and Orlando. There are 2 shows in Orlando, one is Amway Center, with 17248 seats but the price there is $129 per office.
She's going to speak about "The Secrets of Having Poise Under Pressure; How to Communicate with Persuasive Clarity; How to 'Connect' to Others and Create Win-Win Solutions; Gaining Cooperation that Turns Adversaries into Colleagues".
So between them, W and wife of W, they will be padding their retirement accounts with a pretty tidy sum, I am sure.
