On Friday, we reported the odd happiness with which many conservatives greeted Chicago's -- and America's -- defeat in trying to land the 2016 Olympics. Well, it's still going.
On Fox News Sunday this morning, the gang had a nice little laugh about America's failure to win the 2016 games. Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol suggested that not only did President Obama try to "bully" the IOC, but that he should have been lobbying for Brazil -- which will host the 2016 Games in Rio De Janeiro -- instead of the United States.
There's so many ironies in this. By Barack Obama's view of the world, he should have been rooting for Brazil to get the Olympics. South America's never gotten them. Brazil's never gotten them. It's a rising power. It would help Brazil. We don't need the Olympics. We've had them a million times. Our economy doesn't need the boost of the Olympics.
Right. Because the U.S. economy is just going gangbusters right now.
Kristol went on to say that Obama's appearance in Copenhagen on Friday to try to convince the IOC to award the games to America was reminiscent of Obama's predecessor.
"An American president, in a sort of George W. Bush-like way, goes and tries to bully the International Olympics Committee."
He continued, "can you imagine if some Republican, if Bush had done this and we hadn't gotten it?" Kristol suggested that the left would treat it as "typical Bush heavy-handedness, cowboy, unilateralist, hegemonic, imperialist action."
The Fox News gang cracked up at that one.
"You couldn't help but be amused by it," Kristol said of America's 2016 Olympics defeat.
NPR's Mara Liasson said that while the loss of the Olympics was a disappointment to Obama, "this is kind of low on the list of crucial defeats for the President."
"This was the Olympics, after all," she said. "It wasn't a war."
Moments later, Juan Williams adopted the language of a familiar war to declare that the situation Obama faced Friday in Copenhagen was "a quagmire."
Brit Hume said the White House seems to have the idea that "if we can just deploy Barack Obama, that his wonderfulness will turn the tide, will change the atmosphere, will win over people."
"That seems to be a fundamental tenet of the foreign policy of this administration," Hume said.
And Chicago's loss in the first round of IOC voting on Friday? "Not only did the wonderfulness not work, but all of this engagement and charming he's been doing with foreign leaders hasn't worked very well," Hume said.
We'll have video for you later this afternoon.

I guess Bill has finally found something that he can speak about that he is clearly an expert about, failure. He's still wrong as usual but this time at least he is using his vast experience to draw on. Continue to be wrong,Bill, it's who you are, it's what you are, wrong again. So smug, so wrong. Live it.

Why do all those people hate America? (And how can Mara Liasson look at herself in the mirror every day?)

"Our economy doesn't need the boost of the Olympics". Do they wonder why Americans don't trust the GOP on economic matters?

It is almost(gleefully) painful to watch the conservative movement collapse under the weight of their ignorance. I never thought I would live to see the day that the tables would be turned and the supposed patriots would be exposed for the traitors they are...turnabout is sweet and karmaa is a bitch.

As a Chicagoan I am thrilled my President listened to me rather than Mayor 'Slightly to the Right of Bill Kristol' Daley and spent more time on serious issues than bringing the games here. I didn't want the Olympics here and I am thrilled it went to the one finalist that absolutely deserved it. My hope for the future is this gives someone with a chance of winning the mayoral office the idea that Daley isn't unbeatable.

If Bill kristol, the neo con, Vietnam draft dodging, chicken hawk, Jew's Cheshire Cat like grin and delight in the fact that an American city lost out on an opportunity that would have been an economic boon for that financially stressed city, isn't proof enough for the American people that the Republican party's ONLY agenda for America is that Barack Obama fail, I don't know what is.
Bill Kristol is a right wing, neo-con Jew who is a shill for neo fascist right in Israel.
I say that after a conversation I had last nite with neighbors here in Costa Rica who are liberal Jews who left Israel because of the growing level of political intolerance being waged against any Iraeli Jew who questions the current policies of the Israeli right wing governmnt.
As Sonya, a recently arrived Israeli libreal Jew, said last night at a dinner party we were at, " there's a bitter irony in the fact that Jews, who experienced Hitler's Holocaust, can now engage in policies that, although no where near approaching Hitler's "Final Solution, inflict a level of pain, suffering, deprivation, and death on Palestinians, the vast majority of whom, have never done a thing to harm my country, Israel. As a Jew, I sometimes think that we, once the oppressed, have become the oppressor."
I think my Jewish neihgbor Sonia might be on to something.
I guess that's why the neo con, right wing Jew, by the name of Bill Kristol's gloating that President Obama failed to get theOlympics to Chicago really irked me.
People like Kristol, and their so called "Christian" counterparts in the GOP, could care less about the well being of the US and the world - they are just obsessed with assuring that barack Obama have no success in moving the world away from the brink Bible thumping Christians and their right wing, neo-con, Jewish, chicken hawk allies have brought us to over the last eight years.
I feel comfortable saying that because it is what my new Jewish friend from Israel, who left her country because of both political and religious intolerance, tells me is what is happening in Tel Aviv.

Bill Kristol is an idiot who was surrounded by non-Jewish idiots expressing similar views.
His religion has nothing to do with his remarks about the Olympics.

The loss of the Olympics was a loss for America, not Obama. The loss will have no political repercussion on the president. We all know Faux Noise puts cynicism hate before patriotism.

Obama is a bully? If he was, we would have health care reform by now and the GOP would be snivelling at a pitch only dogs could hear.

If Fox News and Rupert Murdoch didn't exist, Kristol would be homeless and begging for a public health care plan. Kristol - the king of the chicken hawks.....send everyone else's kids to the front lines but he ran and hid when it was his time to serve.
If Kristol is the definition of conservatism and a Republican party leader - wow are they in trouble.
Obama is still cooking his own goose. When he skip speaking engagements and begin to lead and actually get something done? What happened to all the changes? Where's the Repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the rich?....gee would that help balance the budget.
Obama is worse than Bush on bank bail outs...there's no accountability. Geithner - send him packing - his next stop will be Goldman Sachs anyways.
SNL had it totally correct - Obama better wake up. Obama desperately needs a new press secretary - Roberts Gibbs gets an "F".
I'm ready for a viable 3rd party...Obama has blown it.

"NPR's Mara Liasson said that while the loss of the Olympics was a disappointment to Obama, "this is kind of low on the list of crucial defeats for the President.""
What crucial defeats is she talking about?
Looking into Putin's soul and then getting played?(Bush)
Starting a war of choice, based on lies, with no tangible positive result even 6 years later AND almost losing that in 2006?(Bush)
Letting UBL escape from Tora Bora?(Bush)
Swinging us from budget surplus to deficit?(Bush)
Letting the market police itself?(Bush)
Lowest job creation of any 2-term president?(Bush)
etc., etc., etc.
To date, Obama's biggest "crucial defeat", IMHO, was putting too many tax cuts in the stimulus package in a bid for almost non-existent GOP support.
He helped stave off collapse of our financial system.
He has prevented us from entering a self-reinforcing deflationary spiral a la Japan (so far).
He received grudging commitments from NATO allies to try to the Bush-created mess in Afghanistan.
Now, the list of POTENTIAL failures is long but that's just what they are, POTENTIAL.
