As Think Progress pointed out, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned on Dennis Miller's radio show yesterday that the public option "may cost you your life."
Miller asked McConnell about the public option compromise that would allow states to opt out. McConnell said a government plan -- whether it's an opt-in or opt-out -- is still a government plan.
Medicaid, the program for the poor now, states can opt-out of that, but none of them have. I think if you have any kind of government insurance program you're going to be stuck with it and it will lead us in the direction of the European style, you know, sort of British-style, single-payer, government run system. And those systems are known for delays, denial of care and you know, if your particular malady doesn't fit the government regulation you don't get the medication.
The Senate Minority Leader continued:
And it may cost you your life. I mean, we don't want to go down that path.
"We have challenging problems already with the government health care that we have now," McConnell said, adding that "what we don't want to do is exacerbate that problem by having the government take over all of American health care."

What a fucking bonehead. How can someone be so intellectually dishonest? He knows that isn't true, or would if he cared to find out. I find myself wishing awful stuff on this guy, because he's directly responsible for so much human suffering.

You know the shot from peanut gallery showing Joe Wilson pointing his "You Lie!" finger at Obama during the speech before Congress? I so very much wanted to make a bumper sticker from that, since it shows that dark clot of Rethuglicans sitting together with their evil glowering stares all in one shot.
That caption would read: "DEATH PANEL".
But I was afraid the AP would sue me.

This man is delusional and still thinks people believe him and his party liars...They have no solutions, no creds, dropping approvals, and not one member without cognitive dissonance...The are all appearing to be fish on a hook...
A shame really because when you have true statesmen/women the two party system works best for the nation...

MediCare is a government plan. It has saved my mother's several times over, and provided her with excellent cardiac care. The VA was unable to save my father from cancer because he was too far gone when they got involved, but having access to the VA hospital as a WWII vet, saved us from being financially wiped out during his illness. Count me as thrilled if a reform bill passes with the Public Option.

Sitting here in Canada and knowing that these bums who have travelled the world, know the truth, I find them to be heartless VAMPIRES. Why would I care about whether Americans have health care, even the crappy system you're trying to pass now?. It is because I must be a liberal at heart. I have worked in the industry, and watched the pain of those who are ill, how can they deny care to a child. In addition, your media does you a disservice by not report the facts, both on what is happening now, and what would happen if you had a single payer system. The health industry sure is powerful in your country. Health as a commodity?. Interesting. Anti-trust protection?. Interesting.

The GOP is the party of irresponsibility. For a U. S. Senator to make such statements, which he knows to be false and irresponsible, is demeaning to the entire Senate. He should be censured--or worse, if possible. And if the gentleman from Kentucky doesn't know that his statements are false and irresponsible, he is too ignorant to retain a seat in the Senate.
(I hope that wasn't too subtle.)

If I were an independent minded Senator, I'd go off the reservation for this, stipulating that if the po weren't made available to everyone (and in the near term, say by 2012), I'd vote 'no' on cloture.

Apparently in Sen. McConnell's world, insurance companies have never caused a death by delaying or refusing treatment. Are people from Bizarro World allowed to run for office in KY?

Unfortunately, they are allowed to run; because Ky is part of Bizzaro World - like other states in the south. I left as soon as I could to avoid the severe viral infection of irrational conservatism from which the majority there suffer - mostly self-inflicted.

McConnell is simply parroting the Frank Luntz framing of health care reform as "government run healthcare." I'd take the British system over ours in a heartbeat. I hope this issue k1lls McConnell's political career.

If his brain had more neurons than the average rock, he'd know that the health care plan people have been talking about is nothing like the UK or single payer. If anything, it's closer to Germany's system than anything else.
But I've yet to hear a GOP whining about how bad health care in Germany is.

I mean, besides the fact that this guy is fear-mongering... he doesn't even know the truth...
when he says "sort of British-style, single-payer, government-run system" he is missing the simple fact that Britain doesn't have a single-payer system. It is a single-provider. Germany has a single-payer system and it works quite well, and it gives everyone in the country for the same cost we pay just to provide Medicaid and Medicare... let alone the fact that those of us that are lucky enough get to also pay for health premiums and our employer picks up a part of the tab... AND 40M+ Americans are still without health care.
Ok, I rambled... short story... this guy is a dishonest ass-clown.

More mind slop from the Grand Old Pig party's pontificating poobah of the Senate. The man is a very ugly, cruel excuse for a human being. That he hails from my home state is a source of great shame; that the populace continues to elect him a source of infinite embarrassment - and why I left there many years ago. Oink away, Mitchell, oink away; only the dumbest, most brain-washed and self-centered buy your dishonest arguments.

If he'd spend some time outside the DC bubble that he lives in, if he actually cared a fig about people who aren't part of his circle, he'd know that the system we have NOW involved delays, denials of care, and denials of unapproved medication.
But hey, even if I thought we'd only get the same outcome, if we could get it for a billion dollars a year less, it would still be worth it.

This lying MF is doing his parties bidding. This must be a Halloween event by the "gop" party because it has no basis in reality! This is an extension of the "death panels" and other distortions and lies of this "Grand Old Party of Prostitutes" sucking more Insurance Industry Money down a dry hole. They have nothing to offer other than illusions of a "Fair and Balanced' approach to health care reform, which there suggested proposal has not even been revealed.
This is bullshit and they even know it - but there 20% constituents endorse whatever lies their lackies perpetuate. Fee on them!!!!!

Being a Dual National and having spent 20+ years in the US Navy, I know who has the best health care system and it sure as hell isn't the United States... I immigrated to Tahiti in the mid 70's and have had both US Medicare through the VA Hospital and French CPS and even though the VA Medicare is good, French Socialized Medicine is second to none in the world today. I will gladly take French Medical Aid over anything the USA has today and will come out the healthier and it will cost me NOTHING.....
McConnell is another lying dog shit eating republican and should be taken out and horsewhipped every step of the way back to the hayseed state the effing pig comes from. Gawd Damn, I despise the Reich wing with every fiber in my body....
Just this old Chief's Opinion, I have been an American, and find being a Frenchman is better.......

Do you really want to know?, then get on a plane, fly to Canada, and do your own impromptu research. Talk to the beggar on the street, talk to the guy in the suit. talk to the single mom or dad. Its not that expensive, plus you'll get a great vacation. Check out the raptors while you're here. Then decide for yourself, and more importantly, when you get back home tell others. Lying VAMPUGS.

Medicaid, the program for the poor now, states can opt-out of that, but none of them have.
Why is that, Mitch? Maybe because the people you represent WANT IT! If we get a public option and none of the states opt out, why would that be? Because the people you represent WANT IT! Oh, the horror! Giving people what they want (and desperately need).
BTW, I'll take this as an admission by the Senate Minority Leader that the GOP's official position is that Medicaid should be canceled and the poor should be left to die. "Compassionate conservatism" at work.
I think if you have any kind of government insurance program you're going to be stuck with it and it will lead us in the direction of the European style, you know, sort of British-style, single-payer, government run system.
If I drive my car to work, I'm going to get stuck with having a drive an 18-wheeler hauling cargo for a living. Mitch, you're "logic" is a perfect case of "if A, then Z". BTW, if that's true, why didn't Medicare wipe out all private geriatric medical services, and make them all government run?
And those systems are known for delays, denial of care and you know, if your particular malady doesn't fit the government regulation you don't get the medication.
He's the leading Senator for the GOP, and he doesn't even know that these problems are common in the U.S.? Why is anybody listening to him on this topic? He's proven himself either ignorant or a liar. Either way, he gets no seat at the table.
It hurts to see the amount of stupid that the GOP contains today.
