Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) criticized Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal on Charlie Rose last night for going public in London last week with his assessment of the war in Afghanistan -- which he believes requires tens of thousands of additional U.S. troops for victory.
"Let me say this about Gen. McChrystal, with all due respect," Pelosi said. "His recommendation to the President should go up the line of command. They shouldn't be in press conferences."
"That's not where this debate takes place," Pelosi added.
Rose also pressed Pelosi about McChrystal's criticism of reports that Vice President Joe Biden's plan would reduce the number of troops and target al Qaeda instead of the Taliban. McChrystal said in London that such a strategy wouldn't work.
"Let me say this," Pelosi told Rose. "The Vice President's views are ones that are widely shared, by members of Congress and people across the country."
The approach that the Vice President is taking is one that has currency among the American people.
Pelosi isn't the first to offer some criticism of McChrystal's outspokenness on Afghanistan strategy. On Sunday, National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones (Ret.) said on CNN that "ideally, it's best for military advice to come up through the chain of command."
And yesterday, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said military advisers should offer "our best advice to the president candidly -- but privately."

McChrystal should lose his job for this. He planted the report knowing it would get leaked and now he's gone public in London. There is no room in this country for generals who think they should be running any war. McChrystal needs to read the Constitution again.

McCrystal should never have been appointed to his present command. His meteor should have flamed out with the discovery of the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse scandal; however the Bush administration, for its own protection, saw to it that only the very lowest ranks were prosecuted for crimes at Abu Ghraib. To have done otherwise might well have resulted in Bush and Chaney standing in the dock.

Stanley McChrystal is labeled by some "pundits" and "journalists" as an acolyte of Bush's General. THE Petraeus!, who is also referred to as an acolyte, (oh that word!) of rip-snortin' Manly General Jack Keane. He is often hailed as the "architect" of the Iraq invasion and occupation, aka War, the genius behind the surge and long time advisor to his AEI soulmates, Cheney (War), Perle (Disease), Wolfowitz (Pestilence). He himself is War,of course.
David, Stanley and a whole host of other Bush-promoted Gen'ruls are political animals. Petraeus is cogitating on whether to run in '12 or '16. McChrystal has no problem trying to undercut the first President elected my an actual majority in more than 25 years. I have no doubts that he will soon join his colleagues in cashing in on the Military-Contractor complex, like his spiritual advisor GENERAL Keane. Keane currently sits on the board of directors of MetLife, General Dynamics and AlliedBarton.
Every one of these dickwads demands that we are ALWAYS at war with EastAsia. Or was it Oceania? No matter. As long as they get paid!
The Pentagon REALLY needs to clean house!

Whoops! Cheney(Death) was the original idea.
BTW, I forgot to point out that the leaked McChrystal "report" was written in association with Retired General Jack Keane whom I have very little doubt was the prime leaker.
Between the Bush courtiers and the Christian Soldier, evangelists/crusaders, our modern military leadership stinks!

Agree with Pelosi. McChyrstal is a self-serving horse's ass who would love to go back in time and fight Vietnam. If he was in charge, we'd still be there.
