Yesterday three top White House officials -- David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett -- blamed the Bush administration for some of the country's current problems during appearances on the Sunday morning news shows. Today, Karl Rove -- a Fox News contributor and former senior adviser to President George W. Bush -- hit back.

"What gets me is that every member of the Obama high command feels obligated to beginning with a gratuitous and misleading slap at their predecessor," Rove said on Fox News this morning.

Of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's assertion that the Obama administration is asking tough questions for the first time on Afghanistan -- and that the Bush administration was thinking "always about Iraq" -- Rove said: "What world has he been living in?"

"Every American saw the progress that we made in Afghanistan," Rove said. "This administration, the new administration, President Obama's administration is not the first to deal with this problem."

And this:

It's really amazing, Mr. Emanuel left the impression that they were the first people to ask tough questions. That's simply not true.

Rove said that in fact, the Bush administration prepared a strategic review of the war in Afghanistan last year and -- in conjunction with the Obama transition team -- didn't release it publicly, but handed it to the Obama team instead.

"Literally the Obama transition team and the Bush White House agreed that that report would not be issued by President Bush and his administration but instead would be handed over so President Obama would have time to look at it and adopt it."

And, saying that the White House's mixed messages on the Afghan election were weakening the war effort, Rove had one last shot:

"It's really unusual that this administration is so quick to criticize the Bush administration when they are really destabilizing the regime in Afghanistan in a fundamental way."

When the Dems lose the Congress in 2010 and the WH in 2012 they'll blame Bush for that too.

Yes genius boy, that means 7 years into the war, you're finally given it attention.

Fact of the matter is, no incoming president in American history has ever inherited to endless, ongoing wars tripled by an economy on the verge of collapse. This was a first Mr. Rove. All brought about by the Bush administration. Bragging that you gave your successor a plan for an 8 year war is mind numbingly deranged.

Nobody forced the Obamanator to become the whiner in chief. He knew exactly what he was in for when he ran.

And it's the GOP's responsibility to take their own advice about "personal accountability" they so fervently dish out to the rest of us, and fessing up to what they did wrong, not just taking credit for what they did right. It's called acting like an adult. Obama said in the campaign that he would clean up Bush's messes -- but that is (rightly so) different from saying that he himself created them in the first place.

Also, can you kindly provide me with the link to where you (rightly so) criticized Bush for whining about the "Clinton recession" upon taking office in 2001?

In regards to amabo66...I am a staunch Democrat yet I have to agree with you. The Dems have really made a total mess and Obama has been a disasterous leader. He speaks a great game, but has not been able to execute anything. The House is just as bad. The real issue with the Democratic party, unlike the Republicans is the Dems are a series of groups all of whom hate each other. The blacks hate the gays, the gays hate the Hispanics, the Hispancis hate the hites, the feminists hate everyone. There isn't a core cohesive group. Say what you will, at least the republicans have the nut case right which hold it all together. I fear the Dems will lose and lose badly because they can not get their act together.

Interesting perspective. Others might say that it is precisely the right's failure to hold together Boy Genius' fragile coalition (social conservatives, economic conservatives, and neo-cons) that spelled McCain's defeat. That said, I fervently pray that the nut case right continue with their extremist statements. The so-called hating Dems will adore the way such statements drive away the always key Independent voters come 2010...

At this point, the Dems are going to gain seats in the Senate. Almost all of the Dems are safe, and they will "saften" up as we get closer. 5 Repukeliscum are retiring, and the Dems will get NH, OH, and may be KS. They will certainly hold IL. It is not beyond conception that the Dems will have 66 Senators after Nov next year. Remember that it is now 12 months until the election. The economy, thanks to Obama's wise leadership, is coming around. He is pulling out of Iraq, and fixing Afghanistan. He is going to have a health care bill, and it will have a public option.

As a Dem, I look forward to the midterm election. We will do well.

And the very notion that the Repukeliscumian Party, as constituted today, can compete legitimately at the national level is simply ludicrous in the extreme. The Repukeliscum Party has 9 states: MS, AL, TX, GA, SC, TN, KY, UT, ID. They are competitive in 7 additional states: NC, FL, LA, NV, MT, NM, AZ. The remaining states are NOT going to go Repukeliscumian at this time. This includes former Repukeliscumian strongholds of NH, IN, NC, VA. These states have gone Dem, and will go Dem again, because Obama will pull them out. By 2012, the economy will be back.

Bush gave Obama a horrible economy, but a tremendous political advantage, and it is going to DESTROY the Repukeliscum. Obama has had his recession, which is called Bush Depression II. Bush owns the recession, but Obama owns the recovery. Bush gave Obama 2 wars, and Obama owns the ends of the wars. Bush gave Obama a horrible mess in the financial sector, and Obama will own the fix. Bush gave Obama a health care disaster, and Obama will own the revision, which will give Americans of all classes and income levels health insurance.

And Obama has 2.5 more years to finish this 13 th labor. Finish it he will, and his second term will be used to crush the Repukeliscum.

Ignore Fox
Obama's right. It's time to stop taking the network's skewed news seriously. http://www.slate.com/id/2232563

"Any news organization that took its responsibilities seriously would take pains to cover presidential criticism fairly. It would regard doing so as itself a test of integrity and take pains not to load the dice in its own favor. At any other network, accusation of bias might even lead to some soul-searching and behavioral adjustment. At Fox, by contrast, complaints of unfairness prompt only hoots of derision and demands for "evidence" and "proof," which when presented is brushed off and ignored."

it also says . . .

"Let's do a quick study of our own. Five people are quoted in this article. Two of them work for Fox. All of them assert that administration officials are either wrong in substance or politically foolish to criticize the network. No one is cited supporting Dunn's criticisms or saying that it could make sense, morally or politically, for Obama to challenge the network's power. It's a textbook example of a biased news story."

What's really amusing about this "issue" is that there is a debate. Fox is as biased as any operation which broadcasts words. It is NOT a news organization. It is a biased political opinion management organization. They are as unbiased as Limbaugh.

If you have ever listened to Bill Kristol, you will here a master of the biased statement. He cannot make a simple statement of fact without interjecting adjectives which "opinionify" the statement. Instead of saying "It was hot today", he would say "Unlike during the Bush Administration, it is unreasonably hot today." He adds in adjectives of value to all statements of fact. Same with all Fox "news" persons.

Numbers Guy...I AGREE with you entirely...with that said, never under estimate the intelligence of the American people, especially if younger voters are not motivated. All I said, and I believe there is truth, both parties are splintered, I just feel the Dems (which I am) are more splintered...they are not all white conservative Christians. The Dems, if you look at them really are a party of all "minority" groups that really don;t like each other. The only thing that binds them is their hatred for the other side. In the long run that is not a startegy to win.

Accountability? Accountability?! We don' need no stinkin' accountability!

Harry S. Truman: "The buck stops here."

George W. Bush: "Buck? What buck? I ain't seen no buck. Hey Turd Blossom, you seen a buck? Betcha them libruls stole it."

The Dick & Duhhbya administration's motto will be known in history as either: "The dog at my WMD" or "We ain't never seen a buck we couldn't pass."

We tried ignorant and incompetent for 8 years. Didn't work out so well for our country did it? Now it's time for the conservatards to shut up and let the adults can clean up the GOP mess once again.
