Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley -- of White House Beer Summit fame -- were reportedly drinking together once again last night -- this time in a Cambridge pub.
Gates and Crowley were the subject of some controversy back in July after Crowley (who is white) arrested Gates (who is black) in his home, sparking a national debate about race relations in America. Things came to a head when President Obama commented that Crowley had "acted stupidly" in his arrest of Gates, and then held a "beer summit" at the White House so he, Gates, and Crowley could resolve the conflict.
Now, it seems, the two are at it again, meeting in a pub called "River Gods" in Cambridge for about an hour, according to the owner.
Sadly, Joe Biden did not pop in for a visit this time.
Relive the White House beer summit in pictures here.

So Gates is firmly back where he thought he was before Crowley didn't seem to recognize his societal status. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the vast majority of people of color in this country who are unlawfully detained, abused, and even killed by police all of the time. There is no re-establishing of privileged status to return to. Gates shouldn't forget too fast.

This could be a sitcom. "My Black Friend". Catchy theme song. The whole nine.

They'd either have to be roommates or run a private detective agency...

Personally, I like the private detective angle. Bill Cosby could portray Gates, but I'm wondering who should be cast as Crowley?

River Gods is just about my all-time favorite neighborhood bar. Really relaxed, excellent food, unexpected medieval decor, and great music. Nice choice!

I'm not a fan of Crowley, but I respect both of them for meeting on their own.

I don't respect them for meeting. It's just Crowley's big chance to prove he doesn't hate African Americans and Gate's chance to prove he's made it and is above the racial strife so many others face daily. They are both self-serving and doing nothing for anyone but themselves.

Give me a break, fartknocker. They are actual people, not characters, and I'm sure both would choose to have never found themselves in this situation.

The world changes, one or two people at a time. And when they solve their differences, over a meal and maybe a beer, others learn by the example.
I don't see the reason for complaints. This is how things should work.

I agree. Good for them. They chose to get together on their own time--what's wrong with that?

If it stops both of them from using their status as a means of affecting conversation, it's well worth it.

People are ignoring the best part about this. Have you looked at the River Gods schedule to see what was happening on Wednesday night?
