Two Republican party chairmen from South Carolina, in trying to defend Sen. Jim DeMint's (R-SC) practice of not using earmarks, said DeMint "is watching our nation's pennies," just like "the Jews who are wealthy."
Edwin O. Merwin and James S. Ulmer, chairs of the Bamberg County Republican Party and the Orangeburg County Republican Party, respectively, wrote an op-ed in the Times and Democrat this Sunday.
"There is a saying that the Jews who are wealthy got that way not by watching dollars, but instead by taking care of the pennies and the dollars taking care of themselves," they wrote. "By not using earmarks to fund projects for South Carolina and instead using actual bills, DeMint is watching our nation's pennies and trying to preserve our country's wealth and our economy's viability to give all an opportunity to succeed."
Merwin and Ulmer were responding to a column written by a Democrat in The State that ripped DeMint for not requesting money for South Carolina via earmarks.
"Sen. DeMint cedes his funding allotments to other states by not requesting projects on behalf of South Carolinians," wrote Bakari Sellers, a state legislator and vice chair of the state Democratic party. "Like Sen. DeMint, Sen. Graham regularly supports measures to restrict earmarks. However, he works vigorously to secure funding for South Carolina because he understands the present reality: If we don't get it, it goes to other states."

Yep, without them rich Jews, the US would be in the toilet fer shure. Of course, the rich Jews spend a lot of time killing Christ, and also saving their money. Hard to say which is more important, stopping the christ-killing jews or using the christ-killing jews to save america from communist free-spenders.

You probably didn't need to specify that was snark. This isn't HuffPo or Politico; TPM readers are generally smart enough to recognize sarcasm. But I guess it is better to be safe...

That would be 150 years in the past. 2009 - 1859 = 150.

Obama derangement syndrome has convinced these bigots that it's open season for their hatred and prejudice. They are self destructing before our very eyes, and it's only been 9 months.

What hatred and prejudice? It's a compliment pointing out how all Jews are rich and they run the whole country, not an insult. And unlike that crypto-Muslim Obama surrounded by Sharia intern spies, these two fellas are strong friends of Izreal too! Why, they've got piles of Jewsh friends!

As one of them Jews so referenced in the article, yes I watch my pennies. And I've saved up enough so I don't have to live in a third world country like South Carolina.

I looked for the video clip of 'Blues Brothers' where the ANS is on the bridge with the bull horn - "White men! White women! The flag is calling you. The sacred and ancient symbol of your race, since the beginning of time. The Jew is using The Black as muscle against you. And you are left there helpless. Well, what are you going to do about it, Whitey? Just sit there? Of course not! You are going to join with us. The members of the American, National Socialist, White Peoples' Party. An organization of decent, law abiding white folk. Just like you!"
I think we need Jake and Elwood Blues to come to the rescue

No films are made like that Blues Brothers one anymore that had the Illinois nazis jump in the river, or like Robin Williams 'The Survivors', where a bigoted gun toting southern white guy disguises himself as a homey to rob diners, before he and Williams go to a survivalist camp.

It is pretty laughable that in all these comments, no person has even addressed the point that was raised regarding earmarks! The stereotypical reference to wealthy jews, was meant as a positive illustration and not intended to be Nazi like. As a Jew, I know the difference and I am sure that most of you do as well. It is not Obama derangement syndrome that makes intelligent Americans realize that Obama's vision of america does not mesh well with the ideals of our republic and the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He belives in an all powerful central government and a peope that is dependent on that government. Instead of our representatives governing the people, it is easier to rule the people. Lets get rid of opposition, silence the opposing media, control the internet, conduct business behind closed doors and dictate to the people. Maybe we can even sign on ot an international treaty that will trump our constitution so that we can be part of a new world government. Guess what? That is what is happening!

A mindset that presumes this reference to 'watching pennies like wealthy Jews' to be a compliment would have to similarly presume that Al Jolson's performing in 'black face' in The Jazz Singer was an affirmative portrayal of the minstral era entertainment.

Where are the complaints about Obama's one sided positions against Israel. Calling for an end to "Un-Authorized settlements" in "occupied lands". Calling for a "contiguous palestinian state". What an flawed and damaging position for our president to take.
We have a president dicatating on behalf of the palestinians and you complain about a poorly chosen, perhaps bogoted but wellintended comment by a senator? It would be wise to pick ones battles with a higher degree of inteligence.

What's striking to me is how casual and offhand the GOP has become in making racially-tinged remarks. It's nice to see that they've abandoned the pretense of not being racist.

Via Century Marks - Christian Century:
"the collapse of Lehman Brothers investment bank and the unraveling of Bernard Madoff's ponzi investment scheme have led to a resurgence of anti-Semitism. A study by Stanford and Columbia researchers indicates that one in four Americans place a moderate or greater amount of blame on 'the Jews' for the financial crisis, and another 15 percent place a bit of blame on them Democrats were almost twice as likely to reach such a conclusion as Republicans. the research echoes a 2008 US State Department report on global anti-Semitism, which declared; "More than 60 years after the Holocaust, anti-Semitism is not just a fact of history, it is a current event" (Boston Review, May Gun, via Utne Reader)."
I guess it's nice to see there's reaching across the isles in something -

This is why as a Jew I would never live in the South or the Bible Belt. Too many people there are in the dark ages....they think all Jews are either Christkillers or penny pinching Beasts. Eff them. This is also why I don't vote Republican. They are dinosaurs....and not in a good way. A good Democratic candidate needs to step up and run against these arrogant jerks.

Tchai ... wonderful, two ignorant Republicans use a regional expression and you would run to the democrat party. Only one party represents a clear and present danger to the Republic. You can correct these two bozos and make them more sensitive to perceived racial slurs ... but what can you do with a fundamentally corrupt and socialist party?
