Earlier we reported that CNN's Lou Dobbs claimed that a shot fired at his New Jersey home ought to be blamed on "ethnocentric interest groups" who are "all attacking me." But it turns out that shot may have been little more than a hunter's errant bullet.

Think Progress reports that it spoke with New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones, who confirmed that a bullet had struck the side of Dobbs house -- but that a hunting accident had not been ruled out as the cause.

He pointed out that Dobbs' residence is located in a "very rural" area. "With hunting season starting up," such incidents are "not at all uncommon," Jones told us.

Our earlier coverage is here.

They were snake hunters. Their confusion was understandable.

Clearly it was a gang of sneaky mexicans. Republicans hatred of victims is curious, since they LOOVE to be the victim themselves.. has anybody bother to check what season is open in Jersey? Compare that against what caliber round they recovered. Thing didn't even penetrate the siding on his house. He is a liar and a victim wannabe. Sad old ignorant f&$k.

Dobbs is just assuming it's because of his anti-immigration stance. Instead, maybe his Birther stories are hitting a bit close to home. MAYBE Biden's trying to show that Cheney is not the only vice-president that can open fire when the mood hits! **snark**

If there's anything we've learned from the tea party protests, it's that threatening gun violence against people with whom we disagree politically is an essential part of our democracy. Why does Lou Dobbs hate America?

Back in reality, the police are basically saying that they're confident it's just a hunting accident. Not surprising that Dobbs just jumped to the conclusion that fit his own prejudices and then broadcast his baseless theories in an inflammatory way (saying in response to the incident, "if anybody thinks that we're not engaged in a battle for the soul of this country right now, you're sorely mistaken."). But he didn't do it on his CNN show, so don't blame them!

As if we needed any more evidence Dobbs is paranoid delusional. Any sane person in a rural area knows stray bullets fly during hunting season. I doubt it's routine anywhere, but it's also hardly unknown. Why does this fool get to be on five days a week while Christiane Amanpour is on once on weekends?
