For a while now, the rumor mill has said Lou Dobbs would be headed to Fox if he ever left his longtime home at CNN. Dobbs hasn't given any hints of where he's headed in the day after he signed off his CNN show for the last time, but in an interview he conducted several weeks ago, he was already sounding like a Fox News personality.

Speaking with GQ in October, Dobbs said he had been personally targeted by the Obama administration and its allies in Washington and even suggested that the White House had requested his ouster. From the interview:

GQ: That was my next question. Have you heard from the administration? [Lou Dobbs]: Of course I have. Sure. Without question. They are coordinating with a number of groups, including the Center for American Progress. The usual suspects. To carry out constant and absolutely insidious and sordid attacks on me. And the reason they're doing so, I'm the leading independent voice, and I am critical on their policies and intent, on unconditional amnesty, and leaving the borders and ports unsecure. They cannot, they're. . .

GQ: They're afraid of that point of view? They don't think their point of view will carry against...
LD: Apparently not. Otherwise why would you do such a thing? But I will not be intimidated, and I understand that. Therefore they're trying to intimidate my network and my owners.

Yes, Dobb's self description seems a LOT puffed up. He is constantly inflating his own self in this manner, And his assumption that Obama is working to get him fired is the heighth of delusion. Obama having to worry about the budget, the deficit, Afghanistan, the economy, etc, etc. Now really folks, you think Obama has even a minute to worry about Dobbs? The entire problem for Dobbs is that he was sounding even wingier than the wingnuts so the pressure mounted to get him fired. But as usual, Dobbs tries to sidestep his responsibility and the fact that his audience did not take his stupidity all that well. Dobbs can look himself in the mirror and then in all honesty, admit that his javing to leave
CNN is entirely his problem. But I doubt he has any self honesty.

Would it be possible for this site to raise itself above the ThinkProgress level?

Regarding the post, the anti-Dobbs campaign appears to be quite linked in to the Democratic establishment.

At 24ahead.com/blog/archives/007820.html Obama refers to stopping "hateful rhetoric filling our airwaves – rhetoric that poisons our political discourse, degrades our democracy, and has no place in this great nation." Which, if you actually think it through, is something that could have been said by every dictator since the invention of broadcasting.

And, also before the election, Barack Obama lied and came close to falsely accusing Dobbs of committing a crime.

Why didn't TPM tell you about any of that?

Last year, I changed domains, redirecting every page at the former to the corresponding page at the latter. The site has been online since 2002 and I've posted over 9000 entries in that time; way back in 2002-2003 it was hosted at a site I started in 1995.

I also have a corrections thread linked from every page at the site. I haven't received any requests for corrections since I posted that almost six months ago.

If you spot anything false, misleading, or illogical on anything I've posted, be sure and let me know.

I'll bite!

At a Florida fundraiser yesterday, Barack Obama said this:

"A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There's a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year... If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it's not surprising that would happen."

Those statements are beyond reprehensible, and come close to accusing Dobbs and Limbaugh of breaking the law. And, the reason he did it is because he's completely corrupt, hoping to obtain political power by supporting illegal immigration. Rather than supporting our laws as a U.S. Senator should, he smears those who oppose law-breaking.

Oh wait...there is nothing to argue here. Just your own smears and no facts to back them up.

"He did it because he's completely corrupt" - Really? That's all you have?

"Rather then supporting our laws" - What laws did he break or not support with his statement?

"He smears those who oppose law breaking" - By calling them out for spreading hateful rhetoric? I notice that you don't link to any thoughts from your heros Limbaugh and Dobbs, oh yes, that's because the claims about stoking xenophobia are not much of a stretch at all.

Where's the lie?

Not a lie, but if you constantly gin up folks some nut case with take that to mean get your gun out and kill.

The righties are doing all they can to bring Obama down so he will fail just like they did with Clinton. It use to be work for or against the polices you support or don't support. It hasn't been that way for a while. Now the goal is to work for the failure of the current sitting president when he/she (someday) is in the opposite party.

What would you label this goal as?

It's sad, really. We've watched helplessly as he slowly loses his mind and there's nothing anyone can do it about it. Paddy Chayefsky's NETWORK seems tepid in comparison to what passes for news these days, and watching Dobbs become increasingly unhinged over the last years feels both tragic and frightening.

My greater fear is that even though he no longer has the bully pulpit of the evening news, he has created an audience addicted to the fear and hate and misinformation that he regularly spews, and he is probably looking to mobilize that audience to continue to do real harm to what's left of our so-called Democracy. A vicious cycle.

It must be tough being a bloviating racist on TV now that (stentorian tones) "Television Commentators" have had the questioning minds turned on them for a change.

My first thought upon hearing that Dobbs is quitting as-of-immediately was not that he was jumping to Fox, but that someone had said they'd bankroll a run for office. After all, he has a history of jumping the media ship for flashy, glossy, "it's so now" ventures, and it's hip to be a Nutter Politician these days.

Perfect new role for Dobbs, until he comes crawling back to CNN asking for his old job -- again.

To answer your title question: No.:

Months ago the president of CNN/U.S., Jonathan Klein, offered a choice to Lou Dobbs, the channel’s most outspoken anchor. Mr. Dobbs could vent his opinions on radio and anchor an objective newscast on television, or he could leave CNN.

For a time, Mr. Dobbs did tone down his TV rhetoric, but on Wednesday he made a more drastic decision: He chose opinion....

from
Lou Dobbs Abruptly Quits CNN
By BRIAN STELTER and BILL CARTER
New York Times Business Day, November 11, 2009

And if you looked at the dead tree NYTimes once in a while, or read media advertising, you would already know it was probably going to happen, because you'd have seen their ads for quite some time advertising their desire to be known as a "non-opinion" cable news channel again, to be an alternative to MSNBC and Fox dueling opinion. Dobbs's opinionated show glaringly conflicted with this clearly very expensive marketing and ad campaign. He clearly did not cotton to being a plain vanilla news anchorperson, he fancies himself as having a political following and he has an agenda as well, as he stated in his resignation statement, and gave up the business news anchoring as boring long time ago. I imagine he took their request to cut the opinion as an insult after he had deigned to return on his own terms. Furthermore, if you've listened to him at all, his political following and agenda, as the self-described "Mr. Independent," are not a good fit for either MSNBC or Fox.

Since he moved from the financial to the emotional sector of the broadcast business, he has been an embarrassment to any in the profession save Fox. Why give him all this extra publicity? He's a has-been, real Murdoch sniffing, goon who had little to offer intelligent people. Let him go peacefully to those that pander to the underbelly of American society. Let him go!
