Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters during this afternoon's press briefing that President Barack Obama will call Afghan President Hamid Karzai this afternoon, in the wake of Karzai being declared the winner in Afghanistan's presidential election after his main rival Abdullah Abdullah dropped out.
Gibbs had this to say of the Afghan president: "Obviously he is the legitimate leader of the country."
"I don't think there's any reason to the believe that the Afghan people won't think that this government is as legitimate as it is," Gibbs said.
Obama last spoke with Karzi, Abdullah and Ambassador Eikenberry the morning the runoff was first solidified, Gibbs said.

I feel so much better that the US recognizes another corrupt government that stole an election. Now the decks are cleared for Barack to squander more Bizzions of dollars on endless war, resulting in more civilian deaths, more death and maiming of our solders and Marines, and the added benefit of recruiting more anti US militants. Heck of a job!

Oh, wonderful. We will now carry on in our time-honored tradition of supporting the crook at the top who agrees to do our bidding.
You know, McCain/Palin would have been a disaster, so I don't regret my vote, but I was hoping Obama would turn out to be a man of courage and principle, in spite of the now-obvious fact that such a man can't make it through modern electoral politics.
