Asked about the Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people last week, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in the daily press briefing moments ago that, "the president has been very clear with everyone that no stone should be left unturned to figure out how and why this happened and to ensure that it never happens again."

As for whether it was an act of terrorism, Gibbs said "the FBI's the best place to address that. I do not know that they have a lot more on motive, but they'll have updates this afternoon."

Gibbs also said the president will meet Wednesday with "families of those that lost a loved one last week as well as speak to the larger memorial that will take place at the base." He is addressing "a community obviously saddened and strickened by the events of last week."

Hasan is apparently now awake and able to talk, so maybe they will be able to garner some information from him that will shed light on just what was going on with him.

There have been so many conflicting stories that it is hard to know just what to believe, but if the guy really was becoming more and more vocally resistant to the army's mission in the Middle East and seeking to leave the service, it's hard to know why they didn't take him up on his offer to repay them for his schooling and give him a dishonorable discharge and let him go. How much good could they expect the guy to be doing them by forcing him to stay and deploy overseas?

If he didn't want to go, couldn't he have just shot off his big toe? It's still too early to speculate - let's wait until we have more facts. You could argue that anyone who would kill 13 people in cold blood is mentally ill, but again, we're just speculating.
