Failed Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee told an Orlando radio station yesterday that the decision to hold trials for 9/11 suspects in New York spells doom for the Obama administration.
"I would tell you not only is the Obama administration finished, I think the Democratic Party is finished," Huckabee told WDBO.
"Well, I think it's absurd, and I think the Obama administration will be as much on trail as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed," he said, referring to the self-proclaimed mastermind of 9/11, who will be tried in New York City. "And God help us if they get off on a technicality because of the way the evidence was gathered."

Exactly what I was thinking. Who gathered the evidence and how did they gather it and under whose administration did that happen? I think Holder is a smart guy and he wouldn't go forward with this unless he knew there was evidence that could be used that wasn't tainted by waterboarding.

Clearly, in Huck's world, everything is Obama's fault. In his imaginary land, Obama inherited a country with a briskly growing economy, no debt, and no foreign wars. Unfortunately, the rest of us live here in the REAL world.

I used to respect this guy but that is diminishing very quickly. Sad because he might have had a chance in 2012 but I don't see it happening anymore.

Finished after 1 year? I think he'd need to quit like Palin for that to be true.

In other words: Obama and the Democrats are finished because they refuse to abet and cover-up the sloppy and unethical job the previous administration did in capturing these suspects.

The key question is will anyone call Huckabee on this if the trials are finished, but Obama and the Democratic Party clearly aren't. If the Republicans lose more seats next year, not just defying history but their own confident predictions of Democratic doom, we'll find out how much more nuts they can get.

I don't think the odds of the Dems actually gaining seats are all that high. But the actual impact on their majority will be far smaller than any GOP forecasts of doomsday for the Dems.
It would be kind of funny if the Dems did gain seats, though.

The decision Obama made here is unwise for 2 reasons.First, these are the terrorists who gave us the 911 tragedy. They are war criminals and should be tried as war criminals. They don't deserve the rights of citizens.Secondly(and I'm stunned that you people can't see this),this open trial is a perfect showcase for terrorists to kill more Americans and gain the spotlight of the world media, which is what they want.Time will tell. I hope you are all correct and I'm not, but if these trials are the cause of more attacks on our soil you're going to have to blame someone other than the last administration.

They are being tried as criminals. Treating them as uber-terrorists is what gives them status. Treating them as common criminals does not.
And I'm more concerned that one of the right wing wackos who show up in public with guns, or who think President Obama is a Nazi-Muslim-Commie-Socialist mole who has been plotting to ruin the USA all his life will commit an act of terrorism than I'm worried about these trials.
And Huckabee scares me more than Palin. She is obviously a greedy, self-promoting opportunist. He actually believes the crap he spews, and can (briefly) gain the respect of people like Hologram. He can have a lot more influence on the scared center.

You mean, at the International Criminal Court that the U.S. (under Bush's leadership) refused to join?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. Do you mean that "the terrorists" who remain at large are waiting for a signal to attack that KSM has been unable to give all these years because he hasn't had any public appearances? Or do you mean that KSM himself will break out of supermax and level NYC personally, Magneto-style?

"God help us if they get off on a technicality"
Maybe Huck should try waterboarding terrorists in Churches if he wants God to be on his side.

philagum demonstrates the kind of muddled thinking that typifies the TV talking heads and other critics of this decision.
According to this logic (if you can call it that), open trials will infuriate Al-Quaida and precipitate further attacks on the US, but labeling these people as "enemy combatants", treating them inhumanely, torturing them, and locking them up without trial for 7 years, or convicting them in secret military tribunals won't.
Huh?

Y'know, it might be time to suggest that if we're willing to play fast and loose with the rule of law, maybe we should consider putting Oliver North in jail.
His conviction for crimes committed during Iran-Contra was overturned on a technicality.
There's no question he was guilty - he as much as admitted it.
That just wasn't allowed to be used at the trial, but was, so he was let off the hook without ever serving a day of his sentence.
And he's not the only one from that episode who escaped justice.

Huck/Palin in 2012! Or is it Palin/Huck? Or Ailing Phuck? I can never remember. But it doesn't matter. Obama will wipe the floor with whatever right wing nutcase the GOP throws at him.
