Earlier today, President Obama made brief remarks to reporters in the White House Briefing Room, following the AARP and AMA's endorsements of the health care reform bill.
Obama first thanked the AARP, whose support he called "no small endorsement." He continued: "They are endorsing this bill because they know it will strengthen Medicare, not jeopardize it. They know it will protect the benefits our seniors receive, not cut them."
Obama went on to address the AMA's support:
The same is true for the doctors and medical professionals who are supporting this bill today. These are men and women who know our health care system best, and have been watching this debate closely. They would not be supporting it if they really believed hat it would lead to government bureaucrats making decisions that are best left to doctors. They would not be with us if they believed that reform would in any way damage the critical and sacred doctor-patient relationship. Instead, they are supporting reform because they've seen firsthand what is broken about our health care system.
The President concluded: "We are closer to passing this reform than ever before, and now that doctors and medical professionals of America are standing with us, now that the organizations charged with looking out for the interests of seniors are standing with us, we are even closer."

According to GOP teabag logic, this must mean that AARP and the AMA are anti-freedom. I guess next time I get sick, instead of seeing a doctor, I'll visit Cantor, Bachmann & Boehner over at the freedom folly clinic.

Of course AMA endorsed the bill: they wrote it, along with Big Pharma.

Now the teabaggers are really going to do away with AARP. But I guess they'll have to do with the AARP life insurance, home insurance and car insurance as well.

Bullshit. AARP also endorsed the doughnut whole ridden Medicare Part D(ogshit). AARP is an insurance company pretending to care about seniors. If an insurance company is endorsing it, it's just more crap.

The AARP endorsed Medicare Part D because it did bring some relief to senior citizens. They have also worked for the repeal of the doughnut hole and frankly lobby quite effectively for their members. The AMA has obviously reached the point where they realize that the system is broken and something needs to be done. A good many doctors actually care for their patients.

Um, aren't we getting screwed by insurance companies now?...haven't we been screwed by insurance companies for years?
I am willing to take a chance with an imperfect bill that isn't going to make things worse for people who already have health insurance, and which will make healthcare more affordable and available to many who are being left out of the system now. It cannot get much worse than it's been now.
I am tired of the for profit health insurance companies making life or death decisions for people and denying them coverage for no good reason, just so they can jack up their profits.
The government cannot screw things up more than the health insurance companies have already.
