President Barack Obama announced this morning that he'll hold a forum at the White House in December on jobs and economic growth.
"We'll gather CEOs and small business owners, economists and financial experts, as well as representatives from labor unions and non-profit groups to talk about how we can work together to create jobs and get this economy moving again," Obama said.
The president said that "we have an obligation to consider every additional responsible step that we can to encourage and accelerate job creation in this country" and that he's "open to any demonstrably good idea to supplement the steps we've already taken to put America back to work."
Obama noted that "the economy is now growing again for the first time in more than a year and faster than at any time in the past two years." However, he said, "the economic growth that we've seen has not yet led to the job growth that we desperately need."
Millions of Americans, our friends, our neighbors, our family members, are desperately searching for jobs.
That, Obama said, is "a challenge that my administration is absolutely determined to meet."

You know what the motto for this White House should be? "Just Do It!".
We don't need more talk. The American people want results. The jobs picture is terrible and folks are hurting badly.

Creating jobs isn't as easy as rhetoric tries to make it appear. I'm not sure a public panel is the right way to find legislative ways to do it, though.

Unless you're suggesting the Federal government buy every American a copy of the book, I question the relevance of this point.

It is time or past time to channel FDR. Americans want to see the Recovery Act monies go to something more than roads. It is time to start thinking big which of course creates jobs.

Yes. And we want to see bailout money taken away from the zombie banks and put towards rebuilding America. Put the banks thru bankruptcy, outlaw all the crazy usury and speculation. Re-tool auto to build a high-speed rail system and other needed infrastructure. There is at least $11 trillion in neglected and needed infrastructure. We could create millions of high paying jobs just by doing what needs to be done. Instead we are giving $24 trillion of fictitious money to the banks in zero interest loans. The biggest and most tragic rip-off of all time.

And then, what? What happens after the rails have been laid and the roads have been paved?
