In an interview today with RedState.com, former Gov. Sarah Palin named some of her reading material and revealed a few other tidbits.

Asked about what she reads, Palin "went right into" mentioning laissez-faire economist Thomas Sowell and National Review editor Jonah Goldberg, author of Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning, writes editor Erick Erickson.

She said she has read some of the foundational stuff, but she sees no need to focus on the old writings. She likes "the modern stuff too." Her preference is policy and application, focusing on writers who are not just following up on foundational conservative ideas, but applying those ideas too.

Palin also explained why she resigned as Alaska's governor.

"I'm not gonna sit down and shut. That's why I resigned," she said.

"By resigning, she said she could 'throw off the shackles' groups were putting in place to restrain her ability," Erickson writes.

She compared herself to Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman, who pushed out Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava in NY-23 only to lose to Democrat Bill Owens.

"An independent with common sense really can make a difference outside the party establishment," she said. "It shows an underdog can make a difference."

The election, she said, was a "conservative victory."

"It is encouraging to see the race tighten even more," she said.

In other Palin news ...
New Mayan Tablet Found: Prediction for 2012?

CHETUMAL, Quintana Roo, Mexico — Archeologists in Mexico have discovered an ancient Mayan tablet said to contain additional information prophesying events to take place in 2012.

The tablet, unearthed recently in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, is said to contain pictograms of a shrieking shrew, a dog with large lips, a vertical cylinder with a tapered top, two concentric circles adjoined horizontally, and a never-before-seen highly stylized figure roughly resembling a hockey stick.

Adding to the tablet's mystery has been the unexplained deaths of every expert who examined and, presumably, successfully interpreted its meaning. All of the deaths, by spontaneous human combustion, are said to have occurred before the "secret" of the tablet was revealed, according to state officials, who agreed to comment anonymously because they were not authorized to speak.

"¡No sabemos qué coño está pasando!" an elderly Mayan woman told reporters. "¡Ahora ve tu trasero de mi patio y déjame en paz.!"

Her book is published by the Zondervan publishing house, formerly an evangelical family-run religious publishing powerhouse now owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Both Frank and Eugene Robinson see the Evita in Palin.

Which race exactly is "tighten[ing] even more?" the NY-23 race? 2012 presidential race? She makes George Bush (the latter) look like Winston Churchill.

Goldberg's book is
a delusional, twisted crazy hybrid of both 'old stuff' and 'new stuff'.
So that's what fuels Sister "Hoffman, baby, Hoffman" Sarah . hmmm.
One of my previously normal friends inhaled a bunch of Goldberg/Beck fumes this year and turned into a rabid reactionary.
On second thought
I doubt if Palin actually read it.
Someone probably recommended that she reference it, to bolster her 'heavy conservative thinker' credentials. Oh ya, and the readin' thing.
.
OK , I bet she did at least read the title of the book.
the title usually sums up the book anyway.
So why bother with the details?
That's it .....she read titles!
old stuff titles AND new stuff titles!

The election [in NY-23], she said, was a "conservative victory."

No doubt about it. The Republican who withdrew from the race was considered more conservative that most of the other Republicans in the state legislature. The far-right conservative then lost, and the Democrat won.

Let's have more, many more, such conservative victories.

Hoffman doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, without Glenn Beck or Dick Armey to tell him where to find it. He's so distracted, he can't find the number of that BriteSmile dentist that Palin recommended.

Excellent strategy. All conservative politicians should follow her lead and do the same thing.

Hey, Joe Lieberman - being a Senator only means having your ability restrained. Resign, and you shall be set free to soar! You have nothing to lose but your shackles!

Didn't we just beat the electoral heck out of this woman's ticket in order to be rid of her pernicious presence in our general culture, at least for a time?

Wasn't that time supposed to last more than ten months into Obama's term?

Isn't that what we all voted for?

I think it was.

Sometimes I find myself wondering the same thing, how the heck are we going to get rid of this idiot. But then I don't feel as bad when I think about all of the unintentional comedy gold that we get from her and her supporters.

If only they were actually joking...

it took over a year to adequately prep her for the question, "what do you read?" over a year. to teach her the answer to that question.

to think, she would have been a heartbeat away from staggeringly difficult questions like what to do in afghanistan/pakistan.

EXACTLY

it's like when you think of the perfect comeback after you've walked away.

Only, the question was really, really easy and it took her a year to come up with a completely calculated, cynical answer.

Anybody who thinks this woman should be elected to ANY office, ought to have "MORON" tattooed on their forehead.

No, actually we're talking about a stupid, lying, former governor of Alaska, who quit halfway through her one term, and who was picked as his running mate by a senile old Vietnam veteran who was running for president. Perhaps you've heard of her?
