Former Bush press secretary Dana Perino made a rather odd claim on Sean Hannity's Fox News show last night. Talking about how we ought to label the deadly shooting at Fort Hood -- and implying that the Obama administration was shying away from calling it a terrorist attack out of political concerns -- Perino said no terrorists attacked the U.S. while President Bush was in office.
We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term. I hope they're not looking at this politically. I do think that we owe it to the American people to call it what it is.
Perino's claim went unchallenged -- no one on screen mentioned the 9/11 attacks.
Here's the video:
Late Update: Perino responded on Twitter to the flurry of criticism over her remark.
Last night on Hannity, I obviously meant no terror attack on U.S. post 9/11 during Bush 2nd term. We have the tools, just need to use them!

Well, of course it wasn't mentioned. Everybody at FoxNews knows that 9/11 occurred during Bill Clinton's Presidency. Or if it didn't it was his fault anyhow. Or something like that.

Well, there are two ways to interpret this.
1) The Naderites were right all along--there really is just one giant Demopublican party, and the elite-est elites scratch each others' backs and laugh at the little people who think that there's a hair's breadth of difference between the Obama Administration and the Bush Administration.
2) Politics involves a certain amount of horse-trading, and since Dana Perino will be rich and influential for the rest of her life anyway, putting her on some random advisory board is worth it for the sheen of bipartisanship and goodwill it will generate.
I think Obama's made some mistakes, but inducing big-name Republicans to take truly small-potatoes jobs in his administration isn't one of them. Sure, it sticks in the craw (that could have been cushy resume-padding for a progressive!) but I'm sure it's worth it.

I didn't realize that volunteering for the campaign came with a poetic license to reinterpret the truth as you see fit...
I shouldn't deviate from the script though: "1) Obama has done nothing for the people. Preventing our nation from sliding into another depression doesn't matter; it doesn't help 'his little supporters.' I guess a collapse of our economy would have been better? [Oops. Must not question what everyone else is saying, even facts to the contrary exist.] 2) Obama's just like Bush, because we all know that Bush would be trying to implement healthcare reform or heading to Copenhagen for a climate forum, etc. (or would have won a Nobel Peace Prize for that matter). 3) Obama's a corporatist; he clearly only cares about Goldman Sachs, or at least that's the impression I get when I ignore his small business initiatives, tax cuts for the middle class, foreclosure assistance programs, new home buyers credit (the improving housing market doesn't matter), etc..."
Did I forget anything? I don't want to deviate from the script.

Right....that was the choice: depression v. wholesale transfer of trillions to Goldman, J.P. Morgan, et al. In your intellectually dishonest mind there is nothing in between. Anthrax attacks weren't a terrorists attack.
Obviously, since Bush always gets his terrorists and we never identified who perpetrated the anthrax attacks - therefor there was no terrorist no terror and not attack.
And the sniper shootings . . . well, that wasn't a terrorist attack because. . . well, because that would contradict Perino and she kind of hot, so I wouldn't do that.
I'm not so amazed that the Republicans live in a fantasy world, but when their own narrative contradicts itself several times within the same sentence. . . I begin to wonder how these people make it out of the bathroom in the morning.

Yes - Perino is still playing Custer's last hand. He had Aces full of nines but lost to the Lakota-Northern Cheyenne forces who held four Jacks. She was playing two deuces and Hannity did not even call.

Shorter Hannity/Perino: historians will need 50 years to fully evaluate W's 2 terms but Obama's already deemed a failure after only 11 months in office

Fox & the wingers are already blaming Obama for the next terrorist attack. Don't expect them to rally the nation then around the President the way they did in 2001. I'd expect calls for impeachment from them before the dust settles.

Ya know, the more ya think about, the more ya realize she's right.
No one threw any Molotov cocktails.
No one attacked with bazookas or tanks.
No one flew helicopters into buildings.
No one lit a match and publicly burned their credit card . . .

And she left out "ON U.S. SOIL." This was a terrorist attack on our troops. Over the last six years we've endured countless terrorist attacks on our troops overseas. But having it happen at home? COMPLETELY different. Or something like that.

How weird, that all those airplanes went off course in the same 2-hour period of the same day, autopilots on the fritz, strange diseases affecting the cockpit crews, and they just happened to hit the WTC and the Pentagon. Coincidence, Dana, I'm sure. But terrorism? Why, of course not.
Oh, and that whole War On Terror thing? Boosh was planning that anyway. He just happened to start talking about it on 9/12/01. Pure coincidence.
It was also pure coincidence that Boosh decided to attack Afghanistan and did so a couple of weeks later. Must have been some other reason than terrorism and harboring OBL. But then, since there were no terrorist attacks on the US under Bush's watch, then OBL never really did anything to us anyway, did he? At least not on Bush's watch.

Denial, denial, and more denial !!! Does anyone expect anything but revisionist, brainless comments from a Bushie representative?
But the really big question is whether Rupert will fire Hannity and company for allowing this big lie to stand unchallenged? I bet not - I'll also bet they don't even acknowledge this falsehood. And that, my friends, is the way it is on Fox News!!!

Don't you all remember that 9/11 INVENTED terrorism, and so how could 9/11 have been a terrorist act when on 9/11 terrorism didn't exist yet? It's only in the POST-9/11 world that terrorism exists.

Interesting to see how, when it comes to terrorism, the religion behind your actions makes all the difference.
Nidal Hasan: Murdered several people at Ft. Hood; motivated by radical Islamic beliefs and clerics. Status: terrorist.
Scott Roeder: Murdered George Tiller; motivated by radical Christian beliefs and clerics. Status: criminal.
Terrorism as a classification of action is terribly unexamined.

Perino forgot the slaughter at Virginia Tech as well. That happened on Bush's watch.
I feel dirty now. Talking about these things in a tit for tat way is pretty ugly. But the right has an almost insatiable desire for ugliness, distortions and lies, and I don't think it's a good idea to just let them get away with it. The right has always been more interested in scoring points than solving problems.
We, OTOH, want to solve problems. Obama, how on earth could you even consider Perino for a job?

Well duh. . . they've been blaming Clinton for 9/11 for so long that they have come to think it happened on his watch.
They have also been ravenous for there to be an attack under Obama's watch, so even if this guy was schizophrenic and firing at imaginary demons they'd be calling it a "terrorist act" simply because he has an Arabic name.

Another way to look at it is that Bush wasn't REALLY elected until 2004, unless you count the 1-vote majority that gave him the job in 2000, so, by this definition, there were no terrorist attacks in Bush's term.

so the bar for republicans is no attacks in the second term. that clears up everything. i guess that means biden is allowed to shoot one lawyer in the face too...right? and obama can allow one prominent city to be decimated by incompetence.

It seems rash to be reflexively anti-thinking. And is that the same Stuart Varney TPM was calling a former CNN talking head earlier? I guess that he's a current 'Fox Business News' talking head answers the question why he's acting crazy.

What is it with these dimwits, it's always the day after when they say, no, this is what I MEANT to say. What a load of crap. Then she compounds it with the twitter which ignores the anthrax attacks. Recall the US MAIL was stopped over that, clearly it was big terrorist deal at the time, coming so soon after the WTC was attacked. Yet she blithely ignores it TWICE so she can try and bash the Democrats over the Fort Hood tragedy. What a boob she is.

You know I just watched this again and I realized these people are beneath contempt. The fact that Rupert Murdoch sees fit to give them a platform tells me he NEVER should have been granted citizenship. Wait a minute! Wasn't the September 11, 2001 attack on the WTC the second one and not the first that Dana ignored?
I guess since the Repugnicants didn't learn anything from the terrorist attack on the WTC that was during the Clinton administration, they probably continue to be too ignorant to take responsibility for the 9/11 attack during "W's" reign of stupidity.
