A billboard on a car lot in Wheat Ridge, Colo., is displaying a somewhat cryptic message: "President Or Jihad?"

The billboard, which shows a cartoon President Obama in a turban, also says, "PROVE IT! Wake up America! Remember Ft. Hood!"

The message replaces one that read, "Where's the birth certificate?," which was supported by radio host Peter Boyle and right-wing site World Net Daily. The owner of the lot, Phil Wolf, donated the space.

Reached by TPM, Wolf Interstate Leasing & Sales general manager Wayne Means said the billboard is "self explanatory."

"It doesn't really matter who's running the country, Democrat or Republican, they're not running it right anyway," Means said. "God Bless Mr. Obama, he's probably a nice guy. [But] his strings are being pulled."

He wouldn't say whether the billboard suggests that Obama is responsible for Fort Hood. When asked about it, he said, "I understand, believe me," and said his grandfather had been in Auschwitz.

He said the dealership put the billboard up itself and was not paid to do so.

I'm starting to think the right to vote and own property should be conditioned on demonstrated intelligence and mental stability.

Some people need a billboard to proclaim their ignorance. Anything smaller would fail to do justice to the scope of this fool's lack of intelligence.

Just so you know, a private individual cannot infringe on anyone's First Amendment rights. The First Amendment only protects free speech against infringement by the government. Now, it's true that defacing the sign would be punishable as vandalism, but that has nothing to do with the First Amendment. Calling the signmaker a total idiot and deservedly mocking his stupidity is absolutely permissible and in no way interferes with the sign maker's First Amendment right to be a douchebag.

ilovebacons' statement that they would "take care" of the sign implies that they do not wish the sign poster to be able to freely voice their opinion. Therefor shutting them down.

My point being that the supposed party of "free speech" doesn't seem to have a problem with keeping those with opposing viewpoints from voicing them.

Maybe ilovebacon should have said "If I was in CO, I would have put up a sign to set them strait".

Back when Kerry ran for President I had a "John Kerry - 2004" bumper sticker on my car. After the election the sticker was still on my car. One night I was working a catering gig (I'm a chef). As I was leaving and had loaded up the last of my equipment in my car I noticed that the bumper sticker had been scraped off (damaging the paint) and that the vandal had put a "Support Our Troops" ribbon magnet on my car. Needless to say, I was pissed.

So, ShawninMo, it would seem that your argument runs on a two-way street. Bear in mind, also, that I was not portraying Bush as a jihadist, racist, nigger, or anything negative. I was just expressing my support for my preferred candidate. Yet, some republican decides to "take care of" my car.

My whole problem with this site, and many who post here, is that everything you guys spout about republicans can also be said about democrats. You have your 15% nutjob section on the edges of each side and 70% somewhat normal people in between.

Besides, you've heard the old saying, keep your friends close...

I know you weren't talking about me, I don't touch other peoples property. But as for republicans being more agressive, I think it tends to be the left that shouts down speakers they don't agree with on college campuses. The left tends to be the ones throwing paint on peoples fur coats or breaking in and letting animals out. There are alot of wacky people on the far left to balance out the militias.

"Your nutjobs are just as dangerous and as stupid as the other sides nutjobs."

The use of "your" and "the other sides" doesn't make any sense. Shouldn't you either say "your" and "my" or "the left leaning side" and "the other side". The purported "nutjobs" which you have deduced somehow exist in completely balanced numbers and state the percentages as facts are assigned as "yours" on the left but and given to "the other side" on the right. Why do you not claim kinship with any nutjobs but assign association to whole groups of independent, reasoning people?

By the way, you are scolding a person for making a hypothetical (If I were in CO, I'd commit a misdemeanor property crime) threat. But "Jihad or President? Prove it. Wake up America Remember Fort Hood" That's something you don't find worth scolding? Yes this nasty, bigoted, delusional person can put up a billboard advertising that he fully believes the President is a muslim jihadist who's secretly enabled the killing of US soldiers at Fort Hood. The thought of even one person believing that makes me sick to my stomach by the way, but there are elected officials, national celebrity TV and radio personalities practically falling over each other trying to come the closest to flatly stating as fact that Obama is a terrorist because apparently they desperately want the votes and support of the people who believe this.

In your little "gotcha, you're just as bad" thoughtful debate dreamscape, somebody who plainly isn't where he says he would have to be to do ANY thing is a fringe nutball for wanting to paint over someone elses offensive signage.

My union hall was made to take down a sign smaller than a house for sale sign that advertised the pay scale of tradesperson positions we were looking to fill - apparently it violated the city sign ordinance.

How about if your neighbor put up a big ass sign pointing at your house that said "ShawninMo is a blog commenter who sticks up for the Birthers and 'Obama's a Jihadist' believers, is this guy a Law abiding citizen or Anti Government Militia killer in hiding? Wake up America, remember Oklahoma city".?

Your neighbor can ask that question right?

Why should I condemn something that isn't a crime and say nothing against something that is a crime? Vandalism is a crime(though that wasn't my point). Thinking something is NOT a crime. Saying that thought is NOT a crime. Saying something that is false is slander, and is a crime. When the party is convicted of slander, I will agree with the conviction.

I don't say "yours' and "the other side" as if I don't have a dog in the fight, but rather to make a point. I don't think there has been a census to determine the exact count on far left/far right, but with big government, we will probably get there. I'm not as far to the right as you may think.

I didn't hear ANY cries from the left when there was a book published about how to kill Bush(specifically). The left is as much a bunch of whiny tittie babies as the right is. The left has as much of the linatic fringe as the right. This crap about your side is worse than mine is a bunch of crap.

As for the neighbor sign, I wouldn't be too surprised. I had one call the police on me for my barking dog, but no less than a month later their dog wouldn't STFU, and I didn't say a thing, which is my point exactly.

_____

You fool no one:

1. You defend a non-crime.

Then you draw a false equivalence between that and

2. An hypothetical crime that didn't happen.

And then, based upon that false premise, you bash the "left," "defending" that specious -- and irrelevant -- bashing by means of the fake objectivity of using fantasied-up "statistics" to assert that there are an equal numkber of nutjobs on both ends of the political spectrum.

Your underlining intent is clear: to bash the "left" while defending the pretend-innocuous lie asserted by a far-right nutjob.

Interesting theory, J. I doubt it. Boyles used to be drugged-up radio party boy in the 80s and now rides hawgs and gets divorced. He's all for gay marriage and very liberal in some respects. I just think he is an older Boomer who is paranoid in his sobriety and who has chosen a kind of Dennis Miller libertarianism--I call it political scientology. But you know, it does seem 9/11 freaked out a lot of people and I'd like to see a psychosocial study of the freaked out.

Missing the point! It's the whole premise that's racist, of course: Obama isn't American, because he's Black. The whole teabagger/birther deal: Obama is inherently suspect, unpatriotic, Other, because he's Black. This isn't about "jihad" or birth certificates--it's the old story of policing racial boundaries, of poll taxes and burning crosses and lynching. Shoring up the now crumbling ideology of dichotomous realms, White privilege vs. Black subjugation. Denying what's now reality--that a Black man is president, the most powerful political leader on the planet.

The caricature is beside the point. The Church of White Privilege has suffered a possibly mortal wound; these are its death throes.

Certainly there's nothing racist about the sign, even though it caricatures Obama as a stereotypical, big-eared black man with a shit-eating grin. The only thing missing is a watermelon.

No, no racism there. And anyone who thinks it's racist is just playing the race card and injecting race into the situation, when it has nothing to do with race, and liberals are the real racists. Also.

He didn't say if his grandfather was a prisoner, or a prison guard, did he? (sorry, I had to)

When Bush left office, I really thought we could put all these comparisons to the Third Reich behind us. But, this smear campaign by the far right against Obama is almost identical to the kind of political persecution used by the forbearers of the Nazi movement (the SA) in the early thirties.

I keep waiting for it all to come to a head, some kind of meta moment when Sarah Palin gets caught in a sex tape with... a moose. (no, that would only get them more excited) Something that proves once and for all that these people are, at their very essence, just incredibly stupid hicks, and we can all just laugh and be grateful that most of them will be gone to their maker before 2016, and we can rest easy knowing that ONLY in America could we have beaten back the devil, himself.

But, its just as likely that Palin will pick Glenn Beck as her running mate, and we'll all be relocated to work camps, when you think about what America really is:

A lot of old white men who are insecure about the size of their genitals.

You have to look at the motivations of the majority of the birthers to understand why they simply cannot "let go". Fundamentally, it comes down to the following mindset: "I cannot accept THAT man in the White House because.... (fill in the blank)."

Just about ANY reason will do -- any excuse that will legitimize their race-based outrage. If it wasn't about a birth certificate, it would be about his middle name. (He's a closet Muslim, you know.)

In addition, there are a handful of unscrupulous politicians and pundits who, although not necessarily racist themselves, have no problem capitalizing on the bigotry of others by fueling their fear and hatred of Obama in order to score political points or further a personal agenda.

I don't know what a "liberal" is except a superficial label which, to you, is a dirty word, and therefore a smear, and therefore name-calling, and therefore a personal attack. But I think I can help you find that you appear to seek. Look here:

Yeah, I posted at you repeatedly last weekend, and you apparently ran off in fear, ignorance and confusion. I'm pretty sure I'm smarter than you, since my graduate-level vocabulary and grammar confused you so much you couldn't even figure out what was going on.

When you grow a brain and a pair of nuts, come on back and I'll give you another couple of rounds. Otherwise, maybe you can hit me with your purse.

Bring it on, Lackwitticus of Borg.
