The New York Times reports that CNN's anti-immigration anchor Lou Dobbs is leaving the network. Dobbs is reportedly set to announce his departure on his 7 p.m. show tonight -- which will be his last at the network.

The Times reports:

His resignation is effective immediately; tonight's program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.

There has been speculation for weeks that Dobbs might leave CNN -- perhaps for the Fox Business Network.

Last month, Dobbs made the news when he blamed "ethnocentric interest groups" for a gunshot fired outside his New Jersey home. As we reported, it turns out that shot may have been little more than a hunter's errant bullet.

Racist fool. He totally belongs at faux entertainment. CNN may not be much better, but at least in the past, they used to try to be a news organization. Maybe he'll be the lead in for train wreck beck's nonsense.

Dobbs moving to Fox? Over Geraldo's dead body!

Well, I guess there is a bright side.

If he plans to move to Fox Business, that shows a profound lack of judgment, not merely because it's Fox. So I say good luck, and enjoy having smaller audiences than some public access shows, Lou.

You mean officially moving, right?

Lou's been swillin' the FOX swamp water for a long, long time.

At least the Crap News Network will be a less crappy.

For now.

You're all wrong - Lou's putting on his sweats and swearing off the sweets - he's going to be a contestant on "Biggest Loser" next season.

Didn't he start off as a business reporter following the stock market and talking to CEOs? Appears he got older, fatter, meaner, more conservative and racist. It happens. But no excuse for CNN to enable him all these years.

No one deserves Lou more than Fox. And no one deserves Fox.
Couldn't have happened to a bigger pig.

I'm beginning to like CNN a little already.

Announcement of his new show on Fox in 3... 2... 1... seriously, I think that's exactly where he's headed.

At least CNN can regain its remaining shred of dignity - even if their standards of reporting and due diligence are still going to be crap, they won't have Lou as the jewel in their crown of embarrassment.

Most of the above comments show the intellectual level of TPM's core audience; TPM used to be a level above ThinkProgress but I guess no more. Meanwhile, here's a list of Lou Dobbs coverage including dozens of examples of others lying and misleading about him (including BHO). Click each link for the full post.

#5 on your 24site: Dobbs interviews Corsi of WorldNetDaily...oh, where to begin. That's one big salad of self-strokin' silly goin' on there.

And these are your big guns? Yikes!

Ha! Lou doesn't deserve a intellectual analysis. He was on a rhetorical witch-hunt for years falsely scapegoating undocumented and Hispanic workers for falling U.S. Economy, while the real reasons for economic problems were making people like Lou rich, fat and ugly.

He contributed, via rhetoric to episodes of violence against undocumented workers and more importantly polarized the conversation on immigration reform, a topic which requires sound and compromising decision making.

Get a grip!

You know we're smarter than you and your people or you wouldn't make comments like that. You folks, sorry to say, have effectively cornered the market on whackadoodle, the IQ-under-100 end of the bell curve, folks that would believe any hogwash people like Palin or that nut from MN would tell them, and then you've got the greedy people cynical enough to pretend they believe the whackadoo in order to exploit their labor.

Let's hope at least one of those "other options" includes a long series of deep knee bends over a fire hydrant.

Let's hope Dobbs' departure opens more breating room for hard, live news on CNN. One of the challenges to our nation in the current telecommunication age is the imbalance between reasonably objective reporting and punditry exemplified in the all-news channels and news/talk radio. CNN's roots are in fact-based news rather than analysis, and the sooner it gets back to that it offers a standard for an industry sorely in need of one.

Let's don't kid ourselves, eh? CNN would have more time for actual news already if it weren't trying to be invited to the cool kids' party by reading viewer emails and tweets half the day – and parroting lies in the name of "balance" during the other half.
