A breathless WorldNetDaily report that the Washington Times would lay off "much of its editorial and production staff" Friday -- which was picked up by a D.C. Fox affiliate -- has apparently not borne out.

The WND story, which can still be read here, cited "reputable sources within the paper." Fox 5 in Washington, D.C., uncritically repeated the WND report during an interview with Times editorial page editor Richard Miniter, who has filed a discrimination complaint against the paper.

Miniter attorney Larry Klayman told TPM that a lawsuit that Miniter had planned to file Friday would be filed next week.

The Times publisher said in a memo last week that the paper, which is in flux after the firing of three executives and the departure of its top editor, will experience more changes in the weeks and months ahead.

The Times story has dropped off WND's frontpage in favor items including "Coca-Cola spearheads 1-world climate tax" and, from WND's Jerusalem bureau, "U.S. official: Obama 'obstacle to peace'".

So where is the Federal lawsuit that TPM claimed would be filed on Friday? The TPM story has also conveniently dropped off the TPM front page in favor of items such as "Fear Factor! Counting The Ways GOPers Say Obama Will Kill You," "GOP Inquiry Fails To Show Obama's Firing Of AmeriCorps IG Was Politicized" (no credibility alert), and "Sarah Palin Goes Rogue With Bill O'Reilly."

Thank you for reporting that Fox failed to do its homework by parroting a WND story which was false. Fox and WND should do better research before reporting.
