The RNC issued the following statement today from Chairman Michael Steele on the release of October's unemployment report. Here's the full text:

"Since President Obama's inauguration, the nation has watched the unemployment rate continue to climb, and unfortunately the month of October was no different. More than 190,000 Americans lost their jobs in the month of October and the national unemployment rate increased yet again to 10.2 percent. With so many families looking for work, it is time the Obama administration stop spreading their phony 'saved or created' talking points and start creating the dependable jobs America needs. President Obama promised jobs during his campaign for president, and the elections in Virginia and New Jersey on Tuesday were a clear referendum on his failure to deliver on this promise."

Now let me get this straight: the stimulus was bad; government assistance to GM and Chrysler was bad; cash for clunkers was bad; and big government is a big problem.

But Obama is supposed to creating dependable jobs.

Please tell me, does ANYONE who works at the RNC have ANY ability to make two consistent thoughts?

Yeah, right. Now that there is political advantage in saying government should be creating more jobs, Steele has no problem reversing his position that government doesn't create jobs.

Aren't the righties the reflexive ideologues who got the stimulus package watered down and turned around and voted against it anyway.

These guys are terrible.

The funny thing is that anyone who knows anything about macroeconomics knows that jobs don't appear out of thin air. Employment in particular lags behind the rest of the economy.

If the economy grew 3% in Q3 2009, the unemployment numbers probably won't stop coming down until late Q1 or early Q2 2010.

Steele may be politically wise in trying too make a talking point out of this, but the fact that he is says something about the nonexistent understanding of economics within the GOP.

Really, now. When does Wall Street start creating more jobs.

Where's Goldman Sachs in this time of American need for more jobs? Oh, yeah, skimming the money off the top and taking it home with them, to invest in China where they get a real return.

It's time that Wall Street took responsibility for the American economy and full employment.
