Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) released the following statement this morning following the Senate's health care vote. Feingold voted for the bill:

"The Senate health care bill is far from perfect. I am deeply disappointed it does not include a public option to help keep down costs and I also don't like the deal making that secured votes with unjustifiable provisions. I will work to improve the bill, including restoring the public option, when the final version is drafted.

"But, while this bill could and should have been much stronger, it includes very important provisions for Wisconsin that I worked to include. The bill will bring more Medicare dollars to Wisconsin by improving the unfair reimbursement formula that has siphoned money away from the state for years, and by rewarding the high-quality, low-cost care practiced at places like Gundersen Lutheran and the Marshfield Clinic. Wisconsin taxpayers also win because we will see a boost in Medicaid funding, so our state isn't harshly penalized for its leadership in expanding coverage. The bill also ends discrimination by insurance companies against people with preexisting conditions, expands coverage to 30 million more Americans and reduces the deficit by an estimated $132 billion. Despite the bill's flaws, it does meet the test of real reform, and the cost of inaction was much too high."

I am not sure why the Senator is deeply disappointed. Deeply disappointed that millions of Americans will now get the chance to even have health insurance? Deeply disappointed that millions won't be dropped or denied health care?

The Public Plan can be brought up again, every year from now on.

Disappointed that the Senate was 1-2 votes away from a much, much better bill.

That is to say, "Disappointed that there's no such thing as a 'moderate' Republican in Washington anymore"?

Disappointed that 30 million people will be forced to buy crappy "insurance coverage" they can't afford, at rates set by the insurance companies.

Disappointed that anybody who doesn't shell out for one of these junk-bond policies will be fined and made into a criminal.

Disappointed that Obama stood on the sidelines and watched what could've been historic social legislation, be turned into run-of-the-mill insurance reform.

Disappointed that real health care reform must wait for actual leaders to step up to the table.

Disappointed that Obama and his henchmen publicly pissed on the Progressives who elected them to bring change, not business as usual.

Disappointed that once again, Progressives are being forced to make lemonade out of the "leadership's" piss.

What's to be disappointed about?

Crappy "insurance coverage"? That is exactly what millions have now.

Junk-bond policies? You are repeating yourself.

Run-of-the-mill insurance reform? How long have you been alive? Nothing comes close to this since Medicare. And NOT the Medicare Part D (which was awesome, although flawed, as well...better elect more Progressives).

Real health care reform? Not being denied for preexisting conditions, not being denied coverage for being a womam or an older person (over 50 but under 65), a child for God's sake? Are you reading the same bill that I HAVE READ?

Pissed on Progressives? You are obviously not even a Democrat much less a Progressive, because you whine to much.

Lemonwhat? You can't even be serious at this point.

What's to be disappointed about? People who rain on an otherwise sunny day.

"Nothing comes close to this since Medicare." Maybe "lemonade" was the wrong drink. Sounds more look kool-aid.

If you think this is wonderful! just wonderful! well, good for you. Following the party line sure beats thinking, doesn't it? You people are more and more like Republicans, at least insofar as blindly swallowing the crap your "leaders" feed you.

This bill is garbage. Maybe, just maybe, the final conference report will improve it. Don't hold your breath, though.

And just to add: The Senate bill could have been historic. Weak-kneed Democrats kowtowing to right-wing and corporate interests ensured it wasn't. If the Senate had the same kind of strong leadership as the House, then we'd have a historic bill.

But now? Not so much.

"You people"? Hello Captain obivous. We The People have a much bigger tent than the Republicants or Tea Baggers could ever hope for; I just hope we realize that soon enough.
