White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs took a shot at RNC Chair Michael Steele today, referencing a Washington Times story about Steele's speaking fees and calling him "delusional."
Gibbs was asked about Steele's comment yesterday that Congress is "flipping the bird" at the American people.
"How much did that interview cost him?" Gibbs asked, eliciting sitcom-style "ooo"s from the press corps.
Steele, Gibbs said, "in his mind, had deduced that the White House had pressured the Congressional Budget Office into coming up with statistics that were good for the bill. ... The notion that the White House is somehow in cahoots with the Congressional Budget Office is delusional, to put it mildly."
Yesterday, Steele said the White House had a "woodshed" moment with the CBO and suggested President Obama had pressured the office to come up with better numbers for the health care bill.
