Former House speaker Newt Gingrich said last month that if the GOP takes back the House in 2010, Michele Bachmann should become a committee chair.
As ThinkProgress pointed out, Gingrich spoke at a right-wing conference hosted by David Horowitz last month, and said:
"I believe that both Ed Royce and Michele Bachmann, who are here today, are going to end up being chairs, probably in January 2011."

Yes, The GOP will win the house and Michelle will be the lead dog. One thing Newt did not mention is that the house he is referring to is the Crazy House in Bellevue!!! Keep drinking the Kool-Aid Newt!!!

In fairness, the House Un-American Activities Committee has been dormant since 1975 - so Bachmann getting a Chairpersonship wouldn't be passing over anyone in the current minority leadership.

Meh. The probability of the GOP retaking either house of Congress is getting more and more remote.
The probability was highest when it seemed like health care wouldn't make it through the Senate, but it's shrunk since then. Obama's approval is up now that it seems health care is going to pass, and even the Democrats in Congress are feeling a boost in public opinion. The appearance of substantial opposition is a lot of hot air; people will say they oppose the Senate bill, but if then asked to name provisions they show they have no idea what's actually in it. When asked about specific provisions, people are almost always supportive.
Provided that the Dems can effectively explain exactly what it is they passed this past year, the GOP isn't likely to gain very much ground in either house. If the tea partiers start anti-moderate revolutions in certain key races, the GOP could actually lose some seats they already have. I still think it'll be a net-loss for the Dems, but it won't be a big loss.

Word! ...I couldn't respond to Newt's statement sooner because I was laughing too hard at him. But then again, maybe he has The Math courtesy of Karl Rove?

Does "Head Inquisitor" count as a committee chair? Because I could totally see Bachmann leading the crusade to clear out all the "seeecret Mooslems" from the government...

Newt must be in uber-conservative freefall after New York-23 where he stood behind Scozzafava (sp?) and ended up being breech-loaded by Palin and Armey, et al, with no reach around; not even a kiss on the neck. He is again slithering in that reptilian skin saying what he needs to say to remain credible to the new Right Base. He wouldn't do Bachmann with DeLay's property if the climate weren't what is it is now, opportunistic toad.
