Political strategist Karl Rove, a veteran of President George W. Bush's White House, has split from his wife of 24 years.

Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino sent a statement on behalf of the Rove family.

Karl Rove and his wife, Darby, were granted a divorce last week.

The couple came to the decision mutually and amicably, and they maintain a close relationship and a strong friendship. There will be no further comment and the family requests that its privacy be respected.

Politico has more details here.

I guess he doesn't feel the need for a beard any longer, now that he's not in the White House.

Please note: James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, advertised himself on his gay-escort website as a "top." KKKarl, who drags his own advertising behind him like an airplane towing a banner, is an ample "bottom." Truly a marriage made in ... (rolph).

Actually the word is that it wasn't Karl having the affair with Jeff, it was Ken Mehlman. I would believe that before I believed it was Rove. He is a slime scumbag for sure, but I doubt he is gay, even though it might be an improvement.

the family requests that its privacy be respected.

I hope his privacy is respected exactly as much as John Kerry's war record was.

When did Propaganda Minister Rove ever respect anyone's privacy? The good news about this story is that there is a woman out there who won't have to wake up next to Karl Rove anymore. Oh sorry if that made you feel as queasy as it does me. Maybe he can take over where his dad left off. OK, sorry, I'll really stop now.

Another stellar family values Republican was divorced just yesterday: Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons.

The money quote, from the L.A. Times:

[I]n court papers [Gibbons] compared living with [Dawn Gibbons] to "being locked in a phone booth with an enraged ferret."

Clearly one more example of how gay marriage has destroyed yet another heterosexual marriage. If only Rove had been successful in passing a constitutional amendment, clearly he would still be a happily married man. But the sight of legally married gay couples in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and (as of Jan 1) New Hampshire obviously ate away at the sanctity of Mr. Rove's blessed marriage and drove it into the ground.

Add Rove to the long list of Republican marriages that have been destroyed by same sex nuptials taking place: Mark Sanford, Rush Limbaugh, Rudy Giuliani, Josh Bolton, Laura Schlessinger, Chip Pickering, Bob Barr, George Allen, John Kasich, John McCain, Dick Armey, Bob Dole, Newt Gingrich, etc. Undoubtedly John Ensign was forced to have an affair because of gay marriage.

Which right wing politico will be the next to see their marriage brought down in flames by "teh gay"?

First Mark and Jenny Sanford. Then Lindsay Graham and Truman Smith.

BTW: I never thought a marriage between a Gibbon and a Ferret would last.

From the wayback machine, 2007:

"It seems the right time to start thinking about the next chapter in our family's life," Rove said, his voice breaking. "It's not been an easy decision."

Sounds like the next chapter of his family's life didn't really require ... him.

One is sorely tempted to wonder whether the split had already happened then, but its formal ratification was delayed until it could cause no conceivable political harm to his sponsor.

It's always sad when couples divorce. I hope they are both alright. I agree the story isn't very newsworthy but people in the public eye and so on. Let's move on.

Karl Rove decided that he would use other people's marriages as a wedge political issue through a strategy of cynically pushing state referenda on marriage equality in order to up turnout among the right wing base. When someone makes other people's relationships a public issue, then their own relationship issues become inherently newsworthy.

That doughy, chinless pantload has built a huge pile of bad karma, and the back-pressure just got to be too much. Stay tuned for the continuing implosion of Rove's personal life. I can't wait!
