Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) took to the Senate floor yesterday evening to voice his displeasure at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for floor remarks Reid had made earlier in the day comparing the GOP's health care obstruction tactics to those employed during the debates over slavery, women's suffrage, and civil rights.

McCain began his reproach by quoting from a FOXNews.com article headlined "Reid Compares Opponents of Health Care Reform to Supporters of Slavery".

McCain closed by demanding a clarification from Reid, if not an apology:

To somehow compare, as this article says, that we who believe firmly in the principles that are being violated by this 2,000-page legislation, as compared to people who supported slavery, I would very much appreciate if Senator Reid would come to the floor and if not apologize certainly clarify his remarks, that he was not referring to those of us who we believe are doing our constitution , carrying out and performing our constitutional duties and that is acting in the best interest of our constituents on an issue that will impact the future of the United States of America for years and years and years.

i'm certain that senators who supported slavery were convinced that they were carrying out their constitutional duties and acting in the best interest of their constituents. that didn't make them right by any stretch. same with civil rights and suffrage. enough with the false indignation. you lost the election...stop obstructing and try to contribute in some small way. is your daughters cleavage really going to be your legacy?
