Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) addressed his former running mate Sarah Palin on Meet the Press this morning -- saying both that she's "irrelevant" and that "she's earned herself a very big place in the Republican political scene."
"I think that Sarah Palin is a -- has earned herself a very big place in the Republican political scene," McCain said. "I'm proud of her. I am entertained every time I see these people attack her and attack her and attack her. She's irrelevant, but they continue to attack her. I am so proud of her and the work that she is doing."
The 2008 GOP presidential nominee said Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue" -- which takes a number of shots at the McCain campaign -- was fair, and that he enjoyed it.
"We have a wonderful relationship," McCain said, adding that, as far as his party is concerned, "she's gonna be a big part of that discussion and debate in the future."
McCain also said he supports President Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan -- but questioned the July 2011 deadline to begin withdrawing troops.
"To send the message that you're going to leave at a certain date is not the way to convince the enemy that you're there to beat 'em," McCain said.
As for health care reform, McCain said the debate has been "one of the most interesting domestic discussions I've ever been [involved in] in my career in the United States. And frankly it's been vigorous and it's been enjoyable."

I'd say this is his recognition that the Republican political scene is irrelevant.

'"...earned herself a very big place in the Republican political scene."'
Right...as the catalyst of the party's descent into irrelevance.

McCain is right about announcing dates to the enemy. In fact, he should return to Vietnam and let them finish the job on him, I mean let him finish the job.

So let me get this straight: she's "irrelevant", but was supposedly qualified to be next in line for the presidency? Good to know that you cared so much for your country, John.

i think you all have erred. i believe mccain said "they say" before he said she's irrelevant. we rewound when we watched it live, cuz we thought he'd said what you seem to, too, but you might wanna look again. if it helps, i think she is irrelevant, but for some entertainment.

Regardless, if there is anyone who's an authority on irrelevance it is McCain.

"I am so proud of her and the work that she is doing." What the hell is he talking about? What work? She quit her job! The only work she's doing is whoring herself for a book she didn't write about your shitty campaign staff. If he's truely enjoying this, he should retire. He's show that he's already brain dead. Just pull the plug!

She's irrelevant, but she's a huge part of the scene? Isn't that contradictory?

Palin is irrelevant to the nation at large, says Senator McCain, but will strongly influence the Republican Party. So she's making the GOP "Party of No" even more irrelevant than it is now.
But still, Sarah Palin's bus tour is really taking off.
