Facts have been having a tough year, which makes it all the more significant that PolitiFact has managed to pick a standout winner for its inaugural "Lie Of The Year" competition: Death Panels.
The site announced today that "of all the falsehoods and distortions in the political discourse this year, one stood out from the rest. 'Death panels.'" The site provided an explanation for its selection, which started to gain traction when Sarah Palin wrote about it on her Facebook page.
Her assertion -- that the government would set up boards to determine whether seniors and the disabled were worthy of care -- spread through newscasts, talk shows, blogs and town hall meetings. Opponents of health care legislation said it revealed the real goals of the Democratic proposals. Advocates for health reform said it showed the depths to which their opponents would sink. Still others scratched their heads and said, "Death panels? Really?"
TPM's Eric Kleefeld was one of the first to catch Palin's Facebook post, which envisioned a future in which "my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care."
In other words, you're welcome!

I think it's unpatriotic and downright insulting to other Americans to suggest that the people of this country would actually plan out and set up a sinister system of "death panels." And furthermore, the idea is completely appalling that the people of this country, including the Democratic Party, would stand by and do nothing as these panels would start "pulling the plug on grandma." If you have such a low opinion of your fellow Americans, it really might be time to get out, to paraphrase the slogan on the t-shirt Palin was wearing in Hawaii.

Not that it is what was meant, but I suggest you review the history of "draft boards" in the US, during the 60s and 70s.
Oh, and then decide if those fit into what you'd generally believe is meant by "death panel". It's quite different from what the Gov. was trying to insinuate, but in my opinion fits the phrase pretty well.

Although I can see your point, it's certainly a stretch to compare draft boards to "death panels." The truth was most guys who were drafted DIDN'T die in Vietnam. And as you'll recall, the American public didn't stand by and just let it happen ether.

They don't hate America - and saying anyting would be untrue and hurtful. They just love, power, prestige, money and holding the lives of those in sway in a death grip - MORE.

Sad to say, many of them DO hate - and vehemently.
If you don't agree, I suggest you get on the group email lists of some Republicans, so you can see for yourself what passes for humor and/or serious political commentary.
And if you're already on a couple - don't forget snopes.com and politifact.com. More often than not, the best reply to egregiously stupid and borderline racist bullshit is a link to the information completely debunking the bullshit. You're not always going to find it, but more often than not you'll get some related info, and sometimes a flat-out refutation of the exact wording of the email in question.

Sarah Palin's honesty, integrity, and veracity are unassailable. As details of the atrocious "health-care reform" become known, Sarah will be totally vindicated.

And I thought the Lie of the Year was when she told Bill O'Reilly that she was smart enough to be President.

It's more fantasy projection than anything else. It's a sign of dysfunction and maladjustment. Once they've drunk the koolaid, it' just keeps working and they slowly drift farther and farther out of touch. A short time ago, I had one explain to me the problems they were having was due to betrayal by liberals like GW. They'll turn on Palin in the long run. She's just another traitorous closet liberal.

Meet the 2012 Republican nominee!
All Republicans suck, as the Death Panel meme suggests. They are ncapable of honest discourse on the issues because they are ignorant of facts and their partisanship, bigotry, and loyalty to the wealthiest, most corrupt, and reactionary corporate entities makes honesty impossible. Can we even imagine the reaction had DEMOCRATS held up the Pentagon funding bill just as a tactic to delay HCR?

Please pay close attention to the battle in the US Senate. It's a preview of the 2012 Presidential race. Ms. Palin will pull off the nomination. McConnel will replace that rat Steele as RNC chair and some simp (prob. Cornyn or Demint (not sure of any name spelling - and don't really care!) as VP. The Senate merely presages the national debate. And all you glad handers thought it was the House! Shame!

Just to see the others that were in contention, here are the runners-up:
• With 12.3 percent of the vote, a claim by conservative talk show host Glenn Beck that John Holdren, President Barack Obama's top science adviser, "has proposed forcing abortions and putting sterilants in the drinking water to control population."
• With 8.7 percent of the vote, a claim by Orly Taitz that a birth certificate showed that President Obama was born in Kenya.
• With 7.1 percent of the vote, President Obama's statement that "preventive care saves money."
Rounding out the rest of the finalists:
• 5.8 percent: The shout of "You lie!" by Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., in response to President Obama saying health reform would not insure illegal immigrants.
• 3.2 percent: The claim that Page 92 of the House health care bill "says specifically that people can’t purchase private health insurance after a date certain," said by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.
• 1.7 percent: The claim that "When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft," said by Vice President Joe Biden, when fears of swine flu were prevalent.
• 0.5 percent: The claim that an amendment to the House health reform bill "puts new restrictions on women's access to abortion coverage in the private health insurance market even when they would pay premiums with their own money," said by Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y.

Your forgot the biggest lie of all for this year........Comprehensive Health care Reform......It is really..... Comprehensive Insurance Reform at the expense of all.......When this bill is enacted it is going to be seen as a monumental mistake, not because it wasn't necessary it was, but the real winners here are the Insurance companies. I don't care how much spin Axelfool and the rest of the sell outs put on this monstrosity it is a pig in a poke for the americans who really need help. AND WHERE ARE THE PROGRESSIVE.....Sanders Feingold etc....now is the time for them to put up or shut up especially Sanders. I listen to him on Thom Hartman on Fridasy and he talks the talk but this is the time for him to walk the walk and he is selling out and towing the line of the Democrats. They all suck!
