Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) attacked the president's job plan on MSNBC today, and wondered how Democrats could be "so doggone stupid."

Defending tax cuts for small businesses, Hatch expressed his frustration with Democrats, his voice rising to a feverish pitch.

I don't know why people on the other side are so doggone stupid that they think the federal government is going to produce jobs?

The senator then answered his rhetorical question:

What they're producing are small-time government jobs. That's what they're doing. And it's just awful.

What a Christian thing for this LDS person to say, eh? The LDS folks I know are kind and gentle but those traits must have jumped over this guy and landed on someone else.

They only pretend to be kind and gentle. I know, my dentist and his sister the hygenist are LDLs and I have known them for 25 years and it wasn't until my dental appointment in October 2008 (1 month before the election) did I find out how fricking crazy they were/are. I guess we never discussed politics before so she felt quite comfortable opening up and bad mouthing Obama and repeating all the stupid stories the crazies were saying. I told her not to go there with me or else she would get a mouthful.

This is a woman who is still married to a man she has not lived with since the birth of their second child. He turned out to be crazy - but because of their stupid religion and for reputations' sake in the LDL community, they never divorced but have not lived together for 20 years. They still take an annual picture together for their Christmas Card like all is well. What a bunch of fucking hippocrits. They are only kind and gentle to their own.

Hatch is right. Obviously, the way to produce more jobs is to give corporations more money, more power, more autonomy and more control over government.

Of course, when those jobs don't materialize, Hatch's only response (if any) will be something along the lines of "Hey, this is a free country, not Soviet Russia! Those CEOs don't *have* to do anything! If they want to spend all the money we gave them on gold-plated toilet seats, I say, more power to them! After all, without those CEOs running things, where would all the jobs come from?"

I agree that the Dems are stupid -- but only for playing ball with Republicans.

From the AP, who paraphrased Obama at the jobs summit today:

"But, mindful of growing anxiety about federal deficits, Obama also tempered his upbeat talk with an acknowledgment that government resources could only go so far and that it is primarily up to the private sector to create large numbers of new jobs."

What Mr. Hatch said today:

"I don't know why people on the other side are so doggone stupid that they think the federal government is going to produce jobs?"

I can wonder at an opponent's stupidity too, if I completely fabricate what it is they're saying.

Another note: If the Federal Government cannot create jobs, then the unemployment rate isn't Obama's problem, right? He has no control, so you can't hang it around his neck.

Republicans need to make a decision. Either the government CAN produce jobs, in which case they need to get out of the way and let Obama do HIS job...

...or it can't, and they need to STFU about Obama not doing enough to create jobs.

You just made a comment that EVERYONE should start repeating over and over
"Another note: If the Federal Government cannot create jobs, then the unemployment rate isn't Obama's problem, right? He has no control, so you can't hang it around his neck.". That is a great line. I will use it often.

it constantly amazes me that the idiots who helped cause this mess have the arrogance to assume they are the only ones with the answers to fix it - even though their answers were proven wrong when they caused this mess. and then someone decides to put them on tv because what - they are some sort of experts?
maybe someday producers of msm will have the cajones to say "nope you've been wrong all along and are to stupid to realize it so you add no value to the discussion" but probably not.

Have the government hire private companies to do the necessary upgrades to our infrastructure, electric grid, green technologies and retrofitting buildings for maximum energy sufficiency. Institute single payer health care for all Americans. Everyone is equally covered, cradle to grave. Scale back on military adventurism while staying strong. We will all pay more in taxes but we will have a decent society. Become the world leader instead of lagger in alternative energy manufacturing. Go meatless one day per week. Be a partner to the world. Find a way to use nano technologies to filter sea water before we are fighting water wars. It's a small planet, start acting as if we were aware of that.

A Republican is calling the Dems "stupid"!?!?!? You would think he would be a little more respectful considering what his party has done to the country for the past eight years. Of course, if you go by the coverage from the MSM and villager pundits, nothing happened at all. Hatch probably only reads the WSJ editorial page.

I'd really like to know if Hatch is right. I don't like the idea of creating a ton of gov't jobs. That means the gov't is doing more.

I think people think of gov't jobs as construction jobs that are hiring independant construction companies to do work on our infrastructure. If that is the case maybe that is alright.

But I'm sure Hatch's real concern, even though he is just playing politics with his statements, is that the stimulus is not creating private sector jobs. Private sector jobs were being created then I'd say shut up and enjoy the love. But I don't think that is the case so I'd be on Hatch's side if he were right.

Do a little research for christ's sake. What the hell do you think that stimulus money was all about, you think the "government" (you do realize the WE ARE the government, right?) took all the money and hired a bunch of new employees? Did you ever hear the phrase "shovel ready project?" Did you wonder what that meant? The idea is that the "government" would move money to the states and local govenments so they could fund the various projects that they've been sitting on because they don't have the money. These local governments (You elect them, elections happen in the fall, read you local paper.) hire private sector contractors to complete the projects. That way the money moves from the local governments to contractors and their employees, local suppliers and various other vendors and service providers. Those people in turn pay their employees who in turn spend that money in the community and the cycle goes on. A little of that money even trickles back to the "government" in the form of payroll taxes. In a nutshell this cycle "STIMULATES" the economy!

Keeping it real stupid is right, why in the world would anyone want to create Good paying Union jobs with good benefits? Good grief word would get out other people would start expecting good pay and benefits, businesses would have to compete for good employees by providing good pay and benefits. People would start buying fancy cars, houses, remodeling existing homes, buying stuff to maintain those homes? Holy shit, they might even save a buck or two. Who knows where it would all end! Oh the Humanity!

Hatch reminds me of the brainless trolls we see here, at Huffington Post, and other places.
He does himself a disservice by attempting to appear just like the bitter idiots from redstate.
So many of his - and their - comments remind me of me when I was a child listening to my parents talk about their day at work. I had no idea what they were talking about, but it sounded dumb.
That seems to be the level of Hatch and his fellow trolls' intellectual vigor.

Let's take every federal contract away from Utah, even the ones where contractors are getting paid obscene amounts of money to do the same thing, usually with less efficiency, than government workers. Then Hatch can enjoy his free-market nirvana.

What I can't get over is how darn stupid the supply-siders have ALWAYS been. A little tip for you, Warren ... demand drives supply, not the other way around.

He is actually arguing (with a straight face, no less) than giving small business tax breaks right now will cause them expand, increase inventories and hire new employees. I don't care how large a tax break they get, they are going to pocket the cash until demand increases to the point that they NEED to expand, increase inventories and hire new employees to handle the increased business.

Hatch's answer to the anchor's question is worthless.

Saying,"Because this is America, and it's always worked like that," and and citing no hard economic evidence is not really a thorough analysis.

But he has a point. Democrats are being stupid -- but it's for not saying the thing that Hatch accuses them of saying. They should indeed declare, "People are hurting. Let's use the federal government to create jobs," but unfortunately the jobs summit today demonstrated that their preferred option is bolstering big businesses. Hatch and every other corporatist should be happy.

This is the only thing I agree with Orrin Hatch on. The Dems are stupid but not for the reasons he mentioned. They are stupid because they buy into the whole trickle down theory and the free market theories that the GOP buys into. Tax cuts aren't going to work if no one is buying because we're losing our jobs. The government needs to step in and create jobs to get the economy going again and create demand. There is so much our country needs to do to catch up to the 21st century but going back to 19th century tax system isn't going to help us.
