2009 was the first year of a post-George W. Bush world. But even without the comedic manna from heaven that was the Bush administration, there was thankfully still plenty of fodder to inspire the likes of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Saturday Night Live. Without further ado, we present TPMtv's Top 10 Political Comedy Videos of 2009:

1. Performing the role of a lifetime, Jon Stewart spoofs Glenn Beck in "The 11/3 Project":

2. Conan O'Brien shows that in the age of Obama, you can find right-wing craziness even on Sesame Street:

3. Speaking of right-wing craziness, Jon Stewart presents the Cable News Right Wing Crazy Contest:

4. But right-wing opposition to President Obama seemed to reach its peak craziness with the 'birther' movement challenging the legitimacy of Obama's United States citizenship. Jon Stewart breaks it down as only he can:

5. Saturday Night Live reveals the untold behind-the-scenes story of Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's September address to Congress (with a special bonus segment featuring probably the best James Carville impersonation of all time):

6. Funny or Die's Will Ferrell leads a team of celebrities in a public service announcement in support of the real victims of the health care debate -- health insurance executives:

7. The Daily Show often reserves its most biting criticism not for politicians but for the news networks that cover them. Here Jon Stewart targets the "fact-checking" on CNN:

8. But at least CNN operates under the pretense of news. Here Jon Stewart explores Fox News's claim that most of its programming isn't actually 'news':

9. And what Year in Political Comedy would be complete without a contribution from Sarah Palin? Stephen Colbert reviews Palin's book, Going Rogue (spoiler: he calls it 'a steaming pile of sh*t'):

10. And last but not least, William Shatner pays his own special personal tribute to Going Rogue by reading an excerpt from it on The Tonight Show:

Of all these nerdy, geeky, pantywaist dorks, at least Conan had gracious, gorgeous, gifted Sarah Palin herself to appear on his show and spoof the ancient toad Shatner. Now, that was funny! Stewart & Colbert are worthless.

Whatever you say dude, you may think Jon Stewart is a pantywaist dork but he's also the MOST trusted news man in America. And Stephen Colbert didn't look too worthless when he pawned Bushie in front of the entire press corps and all of the GOPers were too stupid to realize what was happening. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

My fear is that you are not joking when you call John Stewart a "Trusted News Man" rather than a great comedian which I agree he is. If you actually think he is doing "news" rather than comedy, than you will need find your remote and start using it guy. Maybe make it part of your 2010 resolution list.

No I'm not joking. He really was voted the most trusted newsperson. Ahead of Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, and all the other "real" news anchors. Google it.

Agreed. Stewert and Colbert's oeuvres are as nothing compared to that of Larry the Cable Guy. His is the music of the spheres.

Wait, was that satire? And it just slipped past me?

If that was satire, I apologize, sir!

If not, the previous still applies.

I think anyone who knows what the 'spheres' were is physically unable to enjoy Larry the Cable Guy.

I'm always amused that right-wingers think they've got the market corner on machismo.

I guess in their world, real men avoid combat due to ass pimples!

What Stewart and Colbert point out so brilliantly, is the obvious hypocrisy and laughable craziness of the right-wing extremists/GOP/FAUX, and the incompetence of the mass media.

Yeah, I guess the guy above is right; "the obvious hypocrisy and laughable craziness of the right-wing extremists/GOP/FAUX, and the incompetence of the mass media..." is not exactly NEWS!

The fact that is is completely true, and that Stewart and Colbert make it funny means they aren't trusted news people? I guess we'll have to "leave it right there," Bloggin.

News or journalism is what should 'expose' the truth. Whether or not that truth is funny, does not take away from the fact that it is still News. And yes, Stewart was voted Most Trusted News person by a wide margin.

I'm surprised that Tina Fey didn't make this list. Her portrayal of Sarah Palin was hilarious and it helped cement her image.

Sailorman - or should I say Todd Palin - you are delusional. Please seek the medical attention you desperately need, in this the greatest system of healthcare the world has ever known or will ever know.

No Stephen Colbert at the 2006 White House Corespondents dinner?

http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/funnyvideos/v/colbertwhca.htm

Watching Colbert thinly slice Bush from ten feet away made me believe the media would be all over this the next day. Of course there was no mention of the upbraiding on any of the tv news programs.

The thing is...Colbert's ears don't match. His audience is a bit spastic, too.
