In an instant poll conducted just after the President's address to Congress tonight, CBS found that Obama succeeded in selling his proposals to viewers, and boosted his image on jobs.
Eighty-three percent of speech watchers approved of Obama's proposals, while 70% thought Obama shares the same priorities for the country as they do (up from 57% before the speech).
Fifty-nine percent thought the President has a clear plan for creating jobs. Forty percent thought so before the speech.

CBS poll? What a total farce. Katie Couric polled her soduku circle? "Who gives cute speeches? Can you say, 'Obama'?"

Just for a moment, let's try and forget party affiliation and celebrate all our goal to achieve a better future.
Ongoing denigration is destructive, not constructive!

"let's try and forget party affiliation"
An honorable plea, AS, but considering the body language of the Republicans last night, it's more likely we will see their horde of toadies double down, as usual, instead of taking the high road.
But, here's hoping at least a few of the Republican leaders wake up to their own tarnished, obstructionist image.

Note to TPM sysadmins: it is time to implement a "block this user's comments" option for the webpage. Users should have the option of blocking out comments from trolls like Sailormarlowe.
I'm not saying that the troll should be banned from the website, only that individual users should have the option of replacing his comments with a "you have blocked this user's comments", or, even better, a blank space.
The comments section is rife with trolls. It's annoying. I don't mind hearing from intelligent people who disagree with the liberals on this website, but there is no excuse for trolls. (I'm an equal-opportunity troll hater: I stopped reading Daily Kos because of the plethora of liberal trolls there.)

Most Fox News viewers drink from jugs with three giant XXX's on them, and wear coveralls without undershirts. Okay, that's slightly Appalachianist of me.
Let me be clear: Most Fox News viewers are clay-eating mouthbreathers with shit for brains.

Sorry for the long lag on my reply, but I just have to. I can't take credit for the CBS acronym. Unfortunately, I live in a part of the country where most people get their news from Fox. I listen to this kind of talk every day. Disheartening, really.

Wanna bet that Hennity, Malkind, and The Lump will all decry Obama's "disrespect" for the Supremes?
After their years of enabling Bush in his Executive branch power grab, now suddenly they will all be staunch defenders of separation of powers.
Someone will have to tell me if I'm right, though, I cstill can't watch those phonies for a few seconds without feeling compelled to throw a shoe at something.

Looks to me like CBS conducted a credible poll in accordance with methodological standards and best practices. Good. I liked the speech, too. Fox News probably didn't, but then they have Rasmussen to poll for them. And Rasmussen is always an outlier, whereas Fox is an out-and-out liar.

I think the Republicans may soon discover that it is easier to say "no" to everything when you can't actually influence the outcome. That puts the spotlight on the Democrats and their internal divisions are highlighted. Politically, it's a smart thing to do.
Now that the Republicans actually have the power to stop legislation, the spotlight will swing back to them and highlight their obstruction. If they are obstructing popular legislation, as this poll suggests might be the case, it will make the political viability of the strategy not so clear.
They will have defections, just as they did with the Recovery bill.

"Republicans may soon discover that it is easier to say "no" to everything when you can't actually influence the outcome."
A reasonable conclusion, except that it seems as if that started back in 2007, and got much worse in 2009.
It might be worth asking, is their only real influence, (using procedural traditions to foment obstruction,) tantamount to procedural abuse?

As long as Republicans hold at least 1%, their lemmings will consider them the majority. Their "silent majority" will always hang out there in the mist of their delusions, silently non-existent except in their own minds.
