Rudy Giuliani, the man who was mayor of New York City during the 9/11 attacks, appeared on Good Morning America today to say President Obama should take lessons from former President George W. Bush on how to prevent a terrorist attack.
"What [Obama] should be doing is following the right things Bush did. One of the right things he did was treat this as a war on terror. We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We've had one under Obama," Giuliani said.
Giuliani made the 9/11 attacks (which did happen under Bush) the central point of his campaign, using his leadership of the city to support his political viability. Now-Vice President Biden even called him on it during a 2007 presidential debate: "Rudy Giuliani. There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb, and 9/11. There's nothing else!"
Watch:
Even if you don't count 9/11, there were several domestic attacks during the Bush presidency. In the fall of 2001, anthrax sent through the mail to senators and news organizations killed five people. And in December 2001, Richard Reid attempted to blow up a commercial plane with explosives packed into his shoes.
Although earlier this week, Giuliani claimed that the shoe bomber attack happened before 9/11.

Moron. Why do the talking heads at the networks even bother talking to Giuliani? Notice though, how he's repeating the meme-just like Perino-that Bush "kept us safe" from terrorists? As if wishing would make it so.

I wouldn't be surprised if making that statement was his sole purpose for being on. While we post here that he's a fool, millions have it reinforced in there minds that Bush kept us safer than Obama. How many times have you heard that there were no terrorist attacks under Bush? I know a few Bush-bots and have heard it quite a bit. They freak out and blame Clinton when you mention 9/11.

No terrorist attacks under Bush-It.
Not only do they not count 9/11, they apparently aren't counting Richard Reed, who did the EXACT SAME THING as this brainwashed doofus.

It's still a little sketchy, but I am glad we now know that true time period that it takes for the president to take full responsibility for his administration and the country as a whole.
As we have seen from the latest Republican rhetoric if something happens, say a successful terrorist attack that kills thousands, 8 months into your term it's the other guy's fault. But if an unsuccessful attempt happens 11 months into your term it's totally your fault.
So somewhere between 8-11 months into his job the president becomes in charge. Like I said, it's still a little sketchy as to when the transfer of power actually occurs but we do know that sometime within a three month window the president goes from clueless to supreme being. I'm being told by some close Republican friends that somewhere around Nov. 10th the president wakes up from a nap and realizes he's the most powerful person in the world. Plus or minus a few days that is.
This is good to know so that we better understand the workings of our precious government.

Actually, it's pretty easy: If you're a Democrat, the transfer of responsiblity happens as soon as you declare your candidacy. If you're a Republican, it never happens.

Alternatively, Giuliani, Perrino and the whole lot of them could simply acknowledge the obvious - that Bush was never a legitimately elected president in the first place, so technically there was never an attack during his "term(s)" as "president".

So you agree Bush the Lesser was responsible for 9/11, eh?
And for the collapse of the housing bubble?
And for the Tower of Babel of screwy derivatives?
Cuz they all happened on his watch.
Of course, the collapsed economy that WAS Bush's fault (happened on Bush's watch) immediately became Obama fault on Jan 20, 2009?
Could you clarify a little how that works, please? Don't bother -- that was a rhetorical question.
Since you voted for Obama, you must have expected him to wave his wand right after inauguration and make everything better again.

well, i will answer you in 2 parts, 1; bush was the worst president in my lifetime, and since 9-11 happened on his watch he was responsible, as he was for the financial crap. 2; i voted for obama because he said he would clean up the mess, he hasn't. if anything its worse. and that is obamas fault. he promised if the 781 billion dollar tarp was passed unemployment would not go beyond 8%. lots of people out of work in the past year, i voted for him because he said that would not happen. ps, don't try to get me to defend the idiot bush, i won't, but the sooner you realize obama is the same [except he gives better speech's] the sooner you will realize, like i do, that they all suck.

First of all, TARP was passed by Bush. If you're referring to the stimulus package, it's already been proven to be working at reducing the speed at which we were losing jobs and helping people in certain sectors keep their jobs. When Obama took over, we were losing 700,000 jobs per month, in December, that number was a mere 85,000 in comparison. From the beginning they said the stimulus spending would be spread out over time, and most of it wouldn't even kick in until 2010. News flash, 2010 just started a week ago, be patient. Second of all, you're delusional if you thought it was possible for them to say "unemployment we command you to stop at 8%" and it would really happen. Sh*t happens, and the economy worsened alot more than ANYONE anticipated. If you choose to blame that on Obama, that's your prerogative, but it's nonsense. It's the private sector's responsibility to create the vast majority of jobs in this country, and it doesn't matter how much the President wishes for that to happen, until companies start hiring again unemployment will be stagnant. Too bad there are thousands of jobs available in the healthcare and science fields, but far too many out of work Americans aren't qualified to fill those positions because they don't have the education. Google it. As far as the rest of the economy, most of the important indicators are heading in the right direction and though you've apparently only given President Obama 12 months to completely turn around the worst Recession since the Great Depression, reality is it's going to take longer than that. He has said that and so have all his economic advisors. Maybe you're too busy making up unrealistic expectations instead of paying attention.

the private sector does indeed create the jobs, but they will not do so until they know what the fixed costs are going to be. obama took his eye off the jobs situation and started on 'healthcare' and 'cap and trade'. these will affect business, but as of right now no one knows what the costs will be, thus NO NEW JOBS. thats on obama. straighten out the unemployment then do healthcare and cap and trade. as for only losing 85,000 jobs in december, i take it you were not one of those. our economy must create 250,000 jobs per month in the best of times just to keep our citizens entering the job market employed. as it now stands 250,000 jobs per month must be created for the next 7 years just to get to the 6 % unemployment rate, and obama ain't the man to inspire the private sector to do it, because they do not know what the fixed costs are. i didn't say 8%, obama did. shit happens, like you said, but they are happening on obamas watch, which he said wouldn't happen. now we are in more debt, unemployment will continue to rise to about 12 % this year, wait and see. whose fault is that? not mine, not bush, not clinton, you guessed it.....obama. he better 'man up' , if he doesn't he will be a footnote, like jimmy carter. i hope he suceeds, but i haven't seen that he has the ability to get us out the mess that he inherited, and we elected him to do that.

That would mean behaving like a legitimate new/journalistic organization. That's not what the likes of ABC, CBS, CNN, etc. are. They are in the conveying the talking points business and sucking up to these so-called 'brand name' (America's mayor, etc.) politicians. It was pathetic to watch CNN not challenge the Republicans mouthing all sorts of nonsense during the healthcare debate. John Stewart has an excellent piece on that. At least on GMA, Georgie-Boy is in his element: Pure fluff, with just a pretense at "hard" news. On one hand he spends most of the morning talking with some schmuck showing off a new cake recipe or butt workout or something. On the other hand he has the likes of Rudy come on the show in order to pretend he has actual dangling testicles. It's a weakling's wet dream.
As for Rudy and the 'cons - they're relying on the old saying that if you repeat a lie often enough, eventually people will believe it. "It must be true, 'cause I heard it on the news!" And there are just enough semi-literate fools out there who think ABC's "news" department is a primary source rather than the steno pool it really is.

Maybe the technicality is that Reid tried lighting his shoes over international waters and Abdulmutallab tried detonating his shorts over Detroit. I doubt Rudy thought that much about it but he'll never miss a chance the throw poo. The anthrax thing was conveniently forgotten by the old Cabal. The recipients of the anthrax were Democrats and media people anyway, so it didn't rise to a priority the way their planned-before-9/11 Iraq war did. The perp most likely was an American anyway. Spot John! Scarborouh is pathetic with that nostalgia crap. His latest was an epic fail. Yesterday there was a story about Scarborough having heard from one of "his contacts inside the CIA" that there is actual video of the footage from the suicide bombing that killed 7 CIA employees. It basically got very little coverage. Of course you'd expect there to be footage if there are security cameras around the area. Perhaps that's why he was ignored. Meanwhile, last night on Rachel Maddow she had Jeremy Schahill on who broke the news that there were 2 Xe or Blackwater contractors killed and a third one injured in that bombing. The reason that's more newsworthy is because according to the CIA, they were no longer using Blackwater contractors there. Scahill also contacted Jan Schakowsky last night who immediately launched an investigation. My point is that Scarborough's "scoop" went no where while Rachel continues to out scoop this hayseed.

The thing that get me is that they say there were no terror attacks during Bush, yet the biggest one in history actually occurred under his watch. (to be fair, some occasionally admit 9/11 was a terror attack under Bush, but their intelectual honesty goes out the window once the pull out the canard "He kept us safe after")
Not only was their 9/11 but, what about the Anthrax attacks?? ....(Crickets)...
Also lets not forget the infamous "Shoe-Bomber" happened under Bush's watch which is virtually an identical situation to the "Underwear Bomber". Of course when it happened under Bush's watch it was considered a victory because the bomb didn't go off, so therefor Bush himself kept us safe.
So it boils down to Obama is bad because there was Intelligence(that didn't come accross his desk) that someone was determined to attack the US and Obama didn't keep us safe. Even though the attempt failed, no one was killed and the terrorist boarded the plane in another country. (mind you that Obama took sole responsibility anyway)
But Bush was good because he ignored intelligence that came across his desk, 3000 people died two iconic buildings disappeared from the NY skyline and then (like the real Class act he is) blamed Clinton.

Don't forget the 2002 shooting in the Los Angeles airport:
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/07/04/la.airport.shooting/
I think they ultimately decided the attack was a criminal act rather than a terrorist incident (it would be interesting to know the rationale behind that distinction), but my point is that any safeguards against terrorist attacks on an airport should also work to prevent someone who simply goes beserk from shooting up a ticket counter. Bushco did not keep us safe from this one.

You are right. The republicans continue to give the terrorist what they want which is to make the American people feel insecure. The republicans do everything they can to make everyone afraid and in high anxiety because it helps them politically. They are complete self-interested assholes and idiots!

This is Big Lie, although an unusual one.
Normally Big Lie is about that most people don't know about. Big Lie example: Nixon, for patriotic reasons, did not contest the 1960 elections narrowly lost to JFK. Since who-the-hell-knows, they normally get away with this even though there were formal challenges, not in in one state, but in *eleven.* But again, who the hell knows that?
Here, though, who doesn't remember 9/11? And the anthrax? And the shoe bomber?

Here's my sincere question. Is it possible, actually physiologically possible, for folks in America to hear Dana or Rudy assert this stuff and start believing it? Are there really some humans who are strange orwellian sheep, or are these Bush apologists just spouting off because it makes them feel better, not really believing that they can use Stalin's playbook and rewrite basic history?

Rudy-patootie was wrong on Morning Joe, as well. He said that there was no way of predicting 9/11. Apparently he forgets the executive daily briefing that the Bush-Cheney-Rice triumvirate dismissed in August, 2001, that said that OBL was planning an attack on American soil.
Looks like the GOP has been fulfilling George Orwell's prophecy in 1984 about rewriting history. What liars. The main reason there were no major attacks after 9/11 was that OBL's "best and brightest" all died on 9/11. Look at who he has had working for him since then -- the likes of Richard Reid, Zacarias Moussawi, and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Look also how long it took OBL to muster the forces between the first WTC attack in 1993 and 9/11. GWB and company were mostly just lucky.

besides Richard Reid, the Anthrax, and the DC sniper, don't forget incidents like a mass shooting in the Seattle area in 2006, or a shooting at LAX in 2002, which folks like Michelle Malkin yearn to call terrorism: http://michellemalkin.com/2006/07/28/shooting-in-seattle-muslim-revenge/
[Maklin quotes follow]
.
.
”There’s nothing to indicate that it’s terrorism related,” according to David Gomez, who heads the FBI’s counterterrorism efforts in Seattle. Right. Never mind the eyewitness reports of him declaring himself to be a Muslim angry at Israel. Crikey.***
.
.
But I am reminded of Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, the freelance jihadist who murdered 3 at the El Al ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport on July 4, 2002. It took nearly a year for the feds to acknowledge that it was an act of terrorism.

Interesting that the wingnuts think it's "terrorism" when a brown-skinned person commits the crime, but it's just a "tragedy" when some white nutjob decides to shoot up his home, shopping center, or workplace.

Also, when said brown individual does something, it's emblematic of 'how those brown folk are,' but when a white guy pulls off some sort of craziness, he's just some sort of outlier and not at all representative of Other White People. It's some of the most insidious and entrenched racism in American society, IMO.

I was thinking Atlanta (since every terrorist attack here in the last 30 years was committed by a white christian), but OKC is an excellent example, too.
For those of you who advocate racial profiling at the airport, don't take Delta and don't fly through Atlanta. If you're a white christian passenger, I'm afraid we're going to have to dump your bags and have a look in your skivvies. Can't be too careful, you know.

What really sucked is that Giuliani was on Morning Joe, simultaneously spewing that same garbage. I was stunned that Mika called him out on the "no attacks under Bush" by specifically pointing out 911 but, she also called him out for the same lie that Larry King and Stephanopoulos let him get away with repeatedly, which was that Obama waited 12 days before coming out to discuss the underpants bomber. See, Rudy thinks he's being clever by claiming that the things Obama is saying now are things he should have been saying when he came out after 3 days, as Mika pointed out, beating Bush's time. Now, how would Obama be able to make the statements he's now making without waiting to get the facts? Our MSM is useless. Rachel Maddow was on Letterman last night and was great, as usual. More of mainstream America needs to watch her show where the facts are valued.

Rudy expects to be seen as an "expert" on terrorism, because he happened to be the MYC mayor on 9/11...but the more he opens his mouth, the more he proves that his expertise is all illusion. You can't claim to be the terror go-to guy and then, by lying about easily remembered and proven facts, demonstrate for one and all your ignorance. Either you're lying or you're stupid, Rudy.
And George S. is a sad case of a once-fairly bright guy becoming nothing but a media haircut. When they put him in the anchor chair, did they suck out his brain?

In the same interview Giuliani said 30 years of the underwear bomber was not enough time for interrogation [before Mr. Underpants was 'lawyered up'] . .
As an attorney, Giuliani knows that lawyers permit their clients to 'cooperate with authorities' all the time. Giuliani has no clue as to whether or not Mr. Underpants is or is not still cooperating with authorities . .
Interesting to note . .
NEW YORK LAW JOURNAL (1/8/10)
AHMED KHALFAN GHAILANI faces trial in the South District Federal Court of New York for his role in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania . .

It's really very simple. 9/11, the anthrax attacks, and the Richard Reid incident were all part of the Clinton legacy. The Ft. Hood shootings and the Underpants Bomber were a result of Obama's failure to continue the successful Bush administration policies against terrorists. By definition, only Republicans can protect America from terrorists, while Democrats are weak on Terror; therefore, any incidents of terrorism have to be the responsibility of Democrats, regardless of who was actually in charge at the time.

In particular, I would call to your attention the "shit-talkin' gap", which has already been the subject of deconstruction by such worthies as Peter the Putz King and Dark Dick Cheney.
It was a firm policy of GW to talk incessant shit starting with that bullhorn moment "They're gonna hear us pretty soon" (or whatever) up to smokem' out, dead or alive, yada yada yada,
The best Prez has done is "you will be held accountable"...I bet he talks better shit than that on the court..."you can't guard me, you can't guard me, the whole secret service can't guard me (and unlike Penny Hardaway/Little Penny/Chris Rock, Prez can say it with a straight face.)

Have any of you not heard about the growing crimes of organized stalking and electronic harassment? You will not believe what is going on right here in our own neighbourhoods under the guise of citizen watch groups and “national security” gone, well, nutz. Believe it or not it appears to be a form of domestic terrorism right here in Canada and the United states.
The National Victims of Crime Center receives thousands of calls per month from average citizens reporting this crime. Further the Tornoto Rape Crisis Center is leading the way by aknowledging and activily supporting these until now, unknown and underserved victims of the community stalking phenominon. Organized stalking is a very real and deadly form of stalking that is just now beginning to come to the public’s attention.

Obviously, Rudy's remark was ridiculous and George Stephanaaoapeosls....whatever's lack of retort was unacceptable. But it's what we need to come to expect. The insiders, regardless of party (remember, George was a Dukakis, Gephardt, and Clinton aide/adviser) are all on the same side. We shouldn't expect interviewers to ask their subjects tough questions anymore, because they are all marching to the beat of the same statist drummer (barring a few--Joe Scarborough and Rachel Maddow have some semblance of integrity, as do Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich).
Also, I need to address the apparent meme that Tea Party folks are in the same camp as Republicans. They aren't. I have no brief for the Tea Party groups, especially now that they have chosen Sarah Palin as their apparent spokesperson, but they aren't Republicans. If they allow Palin, who is just a prettier version of George Bush, to take over their movement, then they will quickly become just like the Repubs, but they aren't to be equated with the Party.

In fairness to Rudy, he was clearly talking about the War On Terror in the video, so he can't be criticized for not mentioning 9/11. That argument (and the headline of this article) is a strawman. 9/11 is what started the so-called "war". He was wrong in his statement, but to use 9/11 as the basis for our argument is ineffective. (Are you listening, person who wrote ABC the belligerent note that will not be taken seriously?)

Is no one else bored to tears with terrorism, terrorists and panty bombs ? This topic was beaten to death years ago.
I was in Europe on 26 December 2009 getting on a flight back to the USA ... was I scared ? NO. The airline people searched and asked questions ... passengers were not allowed to get out of their seats the last hour, etc etc. I felt no more safe and no less safe than usual.
The Rove theory of government was that everything and everyone must be bent to the purpose of winning elections. Rove and his agents kept tripping the public amygdala - keeping the public alarmed - until the tactic was worn out.
A person is more likely to slip in the bathtub or get fried by a toaster ... calculate the odds, it is a soothing exercise.
