Jon Stewart targeted MSNBC's Keith Olbermann on The Daily Show last night, slamming the host with his own "special comment."

Stewart put on a pair of glasses and impersonated Olbermann, mocking him for his over-the-top critique of Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R-MA): 'Now you are just calling people names."

Stewart finally nails one. Too bad he can't tie Olbermann's & Beck's tails together, & hang them over a clothesline.

1000% with Stewart on this one. Keith just screams and hates on people all day now, warranted or not. Partially why I have stopped watching his show as much as I used to.

Now only watch when big things went on that day and want to hear why he's got to say

I don't watch KO any more, partly because I'm sick of the news in general, but also partly because of KO's overthetoppedness. I caught a little bit of his latest Special Comment, but had to tune out. Too much melodrama for me.

Humor is the one thing the right will never have. Sorry, there just aren't any funny right-wing commentators. Well, funny in the way we define humor, that is!

I would have to disagree. I'm sure humor's a huge part of what keeps Beck's and Rush's audience. I tuned in once on accident to Beck and his humor is why I stayed tuned in. Considering the difference in ratings to Olbermann's, I'd say others probably agree with me.

I love this. It saddens me that I have not been able to stomach Olberman for several years. While I'm generally in line with his views on things, I find his on-screen histrionics unwatchable, and his general approach to the issues of the day nearly as dishonest as the approach taken by most of Fox talking heads.

Too funny. But as a woman I have to agree with Olberman. Brown should have stood up against the horrible comment made at his rally. If he didn't hear it, then he should have spoken out about it the next day. Violence against women is a serious issue and that type of hostile rhetoric should always be condemned.
And Brown offering his daughters up to the public was irresponsible and embarrassing. I think the entire country cringed at that moment. It was also a sexist remark.

This is one of the weaker TDS skits. I give KO a lot of props for speaking out against a sea of rightwing disinformation and lies. He may be pompous and gruff at times but I'm still glad he's given the air time to speak. I know it's hard to do, but watch Glenn Beck for 10 minutes. Whether or not I agree with Olberman, politics isn't playground, and republicants play for keeps. Democrats need to stop worrying about hurting feelings and get in the game or we'll forever be apoligizing for one or another faux transgression.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least after next election to have 99-100 seats in the Senate and still not be able to pass a bill because Dems want it to be a bipartisan effort.

When I hear the obfuscation and milk-toast blather coming out of the White House and both branches of Congress confirming the lack of courage, backbone and ability to govern even with HUGE majorities it doesn’t surprise me that Keith expresses indignation and outrage.
At times I too would prefer Keith be calmer in his responses to the idiocy we get each day, but I watch Rachel to hear the calm, deliberate analysis each day. She is not afraid to confront the lies, distortions and shenanigans the Republicans/Tea Baggers perpetrate on us daily with a demeanor and intellect they can’t combat.
I would very much like to see at least some of Keith’s spirit displayed by those we sent to D.C. thinking they were actually going to work for us poor slobs out here in the real world.
Ed Schultz, Keith and Rachel stand alone as voices of a Democratic Party gone silent in fear and cowardice to all our detriment.

I love Keith, but Keith loves Keith too (as he's the first to admit), and he especially loves the sound of his own voice. Stewart picks up on that very effectively here, while still paying a sort of tribute to him.

It's easy to be bold when it's what your audience wants you to do, though. Although I would prefer to see more ballsiness from Congress, it's still not a fair comparison...it's not like Olbermann is risking his job by speaking out passionately, because that is what his audience wants. I'm not so sure the same is true of politicians, because as much as people purport to want bold political leadership, that doesn't seem to translate into actual support for bold political leadership. It's sort of like how people claim to hate big corporations and then end up doing whatever the big corporations tell them to do.

Awesome as always - Stewart I mean.

Olbermann, on the other hand, does of course go too far on occasion and has tended to over do the number of his "special" comments. That said, many of them are great pieces of opinion wrapped in entertaining and sometimes very powerful prose.

Bottom line - I would miss and the country would be worse off if either of these showmen were not there to balance the hairsprayed banality of evil that is Faux news.

Keep up the great work Keith and John. And, of course, TPM.

Quasi corporate PC liberal KO and Rachel might be but their alleged nooz is never picked up by their net's or any other's day part and they, with their often unfortunate and theatrical exuberance, do play directly into the winger fantasies of monolithic commie libs.
PS-What's the deal with Jon Stewart's make-up? On TV I don't notice anything unusual other than his fish belly hands contrasting with his bronze face. Streamed, however, on the internets and watched full screen, every bit of Jon's massive face paint is unattractively visible.

Is there some rule that says every male on TV must have an orange face and magenta hair?

I've fallen off the Keith Olbermann bandwagon primarily because he tends to react first, think later on some issues, and his show is often too much about HIM and not enough about the news...that kind of ego-driven stuff becomes intolerable after a while. It's too bad, because Keith is intelligent and bold and could be a great journalist, if only he'd forget about Keith.

I vastly prefer Rachel Maddow's more understated and intellectual approach to her show.

While I immensely enjoy Jon Stewart's show, it seems that at times he and his writing staff feel the need to show how un-biased and balanced they are by ripping on so called "liberal" commentators.

My fear is that this is fodder for the conserva-droids talking points: "See, even liberals hate Olbermann," "Look at the libs ripping each other apart."

Yes, Olbermann can be hyperbolic–he's on tv for Chrissakes!! But the bottom line is this: millions of people are in danger of not receiving healthcare because the voters of Massachusetts voted for a malicious fraud who claims to drive a truck. You can make any argument you want about the quality of the Coakley campaign, but this was the time to step up and instead the voters went truck nutz.

If Olbermann can't call out a charlatan without being criticized by people who supposedly agree more or less with his political perspective, then maybe we should just give the GOP the reigns and pretend 2000-2006 never happened. I'm glad Keith is doing what he does and I hope never relents.

Summary: I didn't feel it was one of Stewart's funnier bits, and there are far worse people who deserve to be the objects of his mockery.

When liberals wonder why conservatives are so determined to put group loyalty over thinking for yourself, this is why. Conservatives won't go after each other like this, at least not unless they're sure the microphones are turned off. If we want liberals to think for ourselves, and our commentators to tell what they see as the truth even if we don't like it, then things like this will happen. Olbermann can look to Maddow for an example of how to reply to Stewart when you're sure you're right and Stewart is wrong.

Obviously it's fine to satirize liberals. I do have some concern, though, that Stewart is falling into the trap of drawing a false equivalency, "pox on both their houses" mentality when the right wing is a million times worse than Olbermann ever could be.

Pat Robertson said that Haiti essentially deserved the earthquake because they were in league with the devil. Rachel Maddow pointed out difference between Obama and Bush in terms of attention paid to disaster relief. On the Daily Show segment, Stewart essentially lumped them together. Even if you think that what Maddow said was "too soon" in Stewart's words (I don't think it was, but the point is at least debatable), it's light years away from Robertson and his bile.

I disagree. Jon Stewart didn't say anything about Keith's beliefs or liberal beliefs. His imitation was about Keith's methods and I'm sorry, it's spot on. So is the point that Keith can't claim the high ground if he's as nasty as the opposition. It's hypocritical. Keith's response was spot-on perfect.

"He copies Ben Affleck pretty well. I give it a B-"

[clap]

Keith's comments and analysis do more positive things for Progressives (and Democrats in general) than most anything Jon Stewart does. While Stewart is the frat house show-off, Keith is the intellectual with the more forceful arguments for his positions.

And while Keith does go over the top occasionally, his comments (like those of Rachel Maddow) are usually spot-on perfect.
