Life in the White House may be no Cabaret, but a musical documenting Barack Obama's road to the Presidency is set to premiere in Germany later this month, and will feature the 2008 campaign players as they sing and dance their way to November.
The show, titled Hope: The Obama Musical Story, documents Obama's journey to the White House during the 2008 campaign. Actor Jimmie Wilson plays Barack Obama, and Della Miles plays Michelle Obama.
But it's not just the first couple that gets the star treatment. John McCain rounds out the cast, along with actress Harriet Lewis as Michelle Obama's mom Marian Robinson (she even gets her own song).
But of course, no Obama musical would be complete without appearances from those other two leading ladies of the '08 campaign: Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. The kicker? They're apparently played by the same actress.
Jeremiah Wright also makes a cameo, singing a gospel number, natch.
This is not the first time Obama's story has gotten the show-tune treatment. Last March, a similarly-themed musical called Obama On My Mind premiered in London. And, of course, in Kenya, Obama: The Musical debuted in November of '08.
"Hope" will premiere on January 17 at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt, Germany.
Aaaand there's video:

Couldn't they've just re-staged The Music Man? Der Musik Mann, anyone?

But will the English-German version tour in the States?
And wow, after watching that video, I get the (GOOD) sort of tingly feeling that I haven't said since... well, actually, I've had it a lot due to positive events in my life during the past year, but, this is that special feeling from the campaign. That "Obama Tingle" that we all know and love! ;-)
(....yyyyeah... I'll be over here....)

Incredible!! Being in the middle of the South Pacific, leaves me out as far as seeing it unless it appears as a video, but the audio tracks would be really something to remember this incredible achievement.

The production may be staged in Germany and the production company is German, but the writer/composer is American.
From Der Spiegel ( http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,670866,00.html )
"I had the initial idea right at the start of Obama's electoral campaign," American writer and composer Randall Hutchins told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "I found the atmosphere exciting and that was my inspiration. People hoped change would result in a better life. It was a beautiful, very social time."
President Obama is hugely popular over here in Germany, as are musicals, so it was only a matter of time before this happened. It should be fun!
