Jon Stewart wondered last night why Sarah Palin needed to remind herself to 'lift American spirits' by writing it on her hand for this weekend's National Tea Party Convention keynote speech. "Unless," he said,"'lift American spirits' is a note to steal a carton of cigarettes."

I had seen the writing but only put it in context when they showed the Q&A clip. She basically pulled a McCain and had the questions leaked to her, but she's so stupid she had to write up talking points to answer these softballs. But in further evidence of her lack of awareness, she thinks she's being smart/sneaky by not putting her bs talking point on a care.
Compare this to Obama's devastating extemporaneous takedown of Hansarling, complete with statistics and skewering irony, and you should know why Palin appeals to the ignorant and intolerant portions of the electorate.

O, please, look at the facts:
Reagan used a teleprompter.
Bushit used a teleprompter -- but even then couldn't speak coherently. (Caveat: Was his incoherence scripted?)
In order to criticize President Obama's use of a teleprompter, Palin had to avoid using a teleprompter; so she wrote her speech on her palm.
And President Obama accepted the invitation to the Republican Caucus retreat and, without a teleprompter, and all by himself, outnumbered by that mob, wiped the floor with them.
So, ya see . . .

Quit jeering at Palin or treating her like a joke. She isn't funny, not a bit funny. She appeals to the same elements in society that the Nazis did -- the declassed, the fearful, the people under the boot looking for a scapegoat -- and they love it. Are there enough of them to propel her to power? No, not now. But let the recession grind on for a while or get seriously worse, and all bets are off. By making a joke out of Palin and the forces she represents, which are funded by large corporations with BIG interests in the outcome, you trivialize someone who represents a clear and present danger to the nation.

You have a good point. I went to college in Lynchburg, VA in the 1970s. We used to laugh at Jerry Falwell. His name was at that point not yet a household word, and Liberty University was still just Lynchburg Baptist College. (There are several colleges in the area, by the way; LBC is not my alma mater.)
