Defense giant Lockheed Martin took out a full-page color ad in the Washington Post today memorializing the late Rep. John Murtha (D-PA).
Murtha, who served as the chairman of the Defense Appropriations subcommittee, was known for securing earmarks for defense companies like Lockheed. Murtha died Monday at the age of 77.
The ad, which you can see here, lauds Murtha for his "towering leadership and tireless work on behalf of our armed forces."
It also praises his work for diabetes and breast cancer awareness, as well as National Parks.
On the bottom, under the Lockheed Martin logo, is the tagline, "We never forget who we're working for."

Sigh. I was going to ignore the ugly side of Murtha's legacy at least until the body got cold, but when they put out a thank you like that it's hard to ignore it.

You see, corporations really are persons. They have feelings, emotions, just like us. This seems like heartfelt sentiment.
.
Of course, when Lee Archer, fighter ace of the Tuskeegee Airmen, passed away last week, none of the aviation contractors commemorated his passing. It must have just slipped their collective minds.

Companies like Lockheed Martin and the politicians they buy are the elephant in the room that neither of the major parties wants to acknowledge. Pres. Eisenhower warned us.

"We never forget who we're working for."
What a coincidence, that is also the motto of the US House of Representatives.

For doves, this ad is literally the kiss of death. Thanks, Lockheed, for further besmirching Murtha's reputation.

It has nothing to do with dove-ishness. The issue is corruption and cronyism. He besmirched his own reputation himself by shoveling taxpayer dollars to defense contractors he favored his entire congressional career. This final kickback from lockheed is an entirely appropriate tribute to that.
