At the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today on the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) expressed his concern that repealing the rule would pave the way for allowing "alcohol use, adultery, fraternization, and body art" in the military -- and that the army must "exclude persons whose presence in the armed forces would create unacceptable risk to the armed forces' high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion."

Chambliss acknowledged that while the military enforces "restrictions on personal behavior that would not be acceptable in civilian society," it "must maintain policies that exclude persons whose presence in the armed forces would create unacceptable risk to the armed forces' high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion."

"In my opinion," he said, "the presence in the armed forces of persons who demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts would very likely create an unacceptable risk to those high standards."

Why, if gays are allowed into the military, Chambliss said, soon the armed forces will allow all sorts of other things.

Like what?

"Alcohol use, adultery, fraternization, and body art," said Chambliss.

"If we change this rule of 'Don't Ask, Dont Tell," he asked, "what are we going to do with these other rules?"

Can you imagine a sailor getting drunk, visiting a whorehouse and then getting and anchor tattooed on his bicep?

Not if they're from Georgia. In Georgia men are men, sheep are scared, and you'll probably have to go to a different county to buy booze. And if you're really lucky your mama will name you Saxby.

Chambliss is just one more reason why the Republican Party is a joke. Chambliss is an embarrassment as a Senator in Washington D.C. Chambliss is an embarrassment as a representative of Georgia. The extremists in the Republican Party have such a choke hold on their members that a rational, clear-headed Republican could never lead them out of their self-induced mess. And the Republicans need, really need, a true leader and not some mouth-piece of Limbaugh's and Fox.

Serious delusion issues. Someone must have watched the opening of "An Officer and a Gentleman" too many times where Gere tries to cover his tattoo.

Alcohol use is banned? Where, outside of foreign countries like Saudi (where the alcohol is kept out of sight)?

Fraternization never happens right now - that's why every carrier makes provisions for losing female sailors to pregnancy mid cruise.

Adultery, by the way, only seems to get prosecuted when the case involves a high profile woman or gets some political stink. Certainly never seems to be an issue in theater, despite the fact it is almost certainly happening.

Georgia is home to Fort Benning, where Army Airborne Rangers train, not to mention Fort Stewart, Fort Gordon, King's Bay submarine port, Warner Robins Air Force Base, and many more military installations. Wonder if he has ever spent a night on Victory Drive in Columbus, GA. Adultery, body art, & drinking? Oh, yeah.

What about the threat posed to "good order and discipline" by proselytizing evangelicals, especially in a war encompassing majority Muslim countries? FFS, this argument could even be used to re-segregate the armed forces, since some soldiers might not like serving with others of a different race.

On the upside, at least he didn't work bestiality into the discussion like *some* of his colleagues are fond of doing.

As a GA resident, I don't care what Saxby Chambliss *or* his trick knee have to say about the military. After all, it was five college deferments and that trick knee that kept him out of Vietnam (while his 2002 opponent and incumbent, Max Cleland, left three limbs over there). That trick knee didn't stop him from playing college ball, though. Even John McCain and Chuck Hagel criticized Chambliss for the utterly disrespectful and classless way he painted Cleland as unpatriotic and soft on national defense.

I wouldn't shake Saxby Chambliss' hand if he saved both me and my wife from a burning building. And I certainly don't care what he has to say about the military and how it is run.

Go back to watching the game on TV, Saxby. The adults are trying to have a conversation.

Lie. Cleland has never said any such thing. He has clearly and on many occasions said that the loss of his limbs was an accident, and not any person or persons' fault.

"a fact that he doesn't dispute."

Lie. Carry your ass back to Michelle Malkin's site and peddle your crap there.

"so don't be implying that he is a hero for losing 3 limbs."

Show me where I said "hero" or STFU, liar.

And if the best you can do is claim that I 'implied' it, then restart your Windows for Telepaths software, because you've got a General Program Fault going on, buttplug.

"hey, he mishandled the grenade, he had it hooked on his shirt, it fell off, not my fault."

You are a liar.

On April 8, 1968, Captain Cleland was the Battalion Signal Officer for the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division during the Battle of Khe Sanh.[3]

On April 8, with a month left in his tour, Cleland was ordered to set up a radio relay station on a nearby hill. A helicopter flew him and two soldiers to the treeless top of Hill 471, east of Khe Sanh. Cleland knew some of the soldiers camped there from Operation Pegasus. He told the pilot he was going to stay a while and maybe have a few beers with friends.

When the helicopter landed, Cleland jumped out, followed by the two soldiers. They ducked beneath the rotors and turned to watch the liftoff. Cleland reached down to pick up a grenade he believed had popped off his flak jacket. It exploded, and the blast slammed him backward, shredding both his legs and one arm.

David Lloyd was a 19-year-old enlisted Marine, son of a Baltimore, Maryland ship worker, who went to Vietnam because he "wanted to kill Communists."
On that day, he was in a mortar pit on a hill near Khe Sanh when he heard the explosion. Fragments bounced off his flak jacket. He ran to the injured Cleland, saying 'Hold on there, captain, the chopper will be here in a minute.'
Lloyd took off his web belt and tied it around one of Cleland's shredded legs. When the medics arrived, he left to help another injured soldier — one of the two who had gotten off the helicopter with Cleland.

That unnamed soldier was crying. 'It was mine,' he said, 'it was my grenade.'

According to Lloyd, the private had failed to take the extra precaution that experienced soldiers did when they grabbed M-26 grenades from the ammo box: bend the pins, or tape them in place, so they couldn't accidentally dislodge. This soldier had a flak jacket full of grenades with treacherously straight pins, Lloyd says. "He was a walking death trap."[4]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Cleland

The lie that Cleland somehow managed to blow off his own limbs is one of the most slanderous and oft-repeated lies about a veteran that's ever seen the light of day in this country. I didn't make him out to be a hero -- despite your lie to the contrary -- but the claim that he was somehow negligent or responsible for his own wounds is dishonest, reprehensible and factually untrue, and you should be ashamed of yourself for repeating it.

"i too am a disabled vet, with over 200% worth of disabilities, so fuck you too."

You're a damn liar. Any honest-to-goodness disabled vet wouldn't say the shit you said about Max Cleland. Apologize from spreading lies about him, and I might show some conciliation towards you. Otherwise, as it stands, I'd knock your lying self flat on your butt if I met you in person.

"be at harrahs in atlantic city, poker room, at noon on monday, i'll be standing there with a viet vet baseball cap."

Fuck you. You don't dictate where I go and when I go there.

Besides, I'm an adult with a job; I don't have time to hang around in casinos with drunks, gamblers and lying hoes like you.

If you want to go toe-to-toe, we can work out a time and place like a couple of adults. Of course, since you don't act like an adult, I don't give us much hope of coming to such an arrangement. But you may yet surprise me.

First, as to time. I'm not taking time off from work just to kick your ass, so I propose Memorial day.

Second, as to place. Since you clearly want this to happen in Atlantic City, I'm presuming that you live somewhere in NY or NJ. So if I've got to travel, you should, too. So pick a major city (population 100,000 or more) west of the Mississippi.

"otherwise shut up."

You certainly are, coward.

Memorial Day. Your choice of any major city west of the Mississippi.

What city, coward?

you challenged me

Yes, I did.

i accepted

You've tried to dictate a time and place, which is in and of itself cowardly. You're also trying to avoid naming a mutually acceptable time and place, which is what an honorable man would do. Two hundred years ago, if a challenger in a duel tried to do what you've done, he'd have been run out of town as a coward without further delay. Honorable men agree on time and place, and then appear as agreed. Dishonorable men try to avoid, to obscure, to delay. That's what you've done.

You're a liar; I've proven that.
You're a coward; you're in the process of proving that for me.
You're dishonorable; if you fail to agree on a mutually acceptable time and place, you'll have proven that for me as well.
And I'm pretty sure you're not a veteran (let alone a disabled one).

Be a man for once in your pathetic life. Agree on a time and place -- instead of trying to dictate one like a coward -- and show up.

"oh, so you want to set all the rules?"

Oh, fuck you, you coward. I've offered a specific date, and your choice of major Western US cities. You're too much of a coward to choose one or to counter-offer. You have another idea for a day and place? Be a man and post it.

"sorry, as the challenged one i get to set the time and place."

Horseshit. No, you don't. You especially don't get to hide behind a major snowstorm, coward. How many planes do you think will be coming into NY, NJ, DE or PA tomorrow or Sunday, given the storm that's going on up there? You picked Monday in the Mid-Atlantic because you know it would be damn near impossible for me to get there. That's because you're a coward.

No, you don't get to hide behind weather. And you don't get to make conditions. We agree on time and place, or this doesn't happen. If you're not comfortable with a given time or place, then suggest something else. You have nothing to lose but some of your fucking teeth.

"memorial day? accross the mississippi? any large city? seems to me you punked out."

No, it seems to me that Memorial Day has multiple things going for it:

1) I'm not working that day. So it will be quite easy for me to fly into any major city in the US and beat your lying ass black and blue.

2) It's in the spring, so the weather will be a damn sight better than it is this weekend. That means that if we agree to meet then, you can't hide behind a snowstorm and claim victory.

3) Given this weekend's snowstorm and the massive cost involved in getting a walkup airfare to Atlantic City (assuming any planes will even be able to get there and assuming all the seats aren't filled with people who got rebooked off cancelled flights), you've set the bar so high as to virtually guarantee that I can't make it. You might as well have demanded that I be standing at your front door at 9 AM tomorrow morning.

And it seems that any large Western city has at least two things going for it:

1) It's neutral territory. You're so much of a coward that if I showed up in Atlantic City, you'd probably have casino security waiting for me to show up. If we meet in a neutral city, you get to take your chances, same as me.

2) There's no reason *I* should have to bear all the travel cost. Hell, if you want a crack at me, why not man up and fly here yourself this weekend? I'll be glad to knock your lying ass out on Saturday or Sunday, and then I can still be back to work on Monday. But to be fair, I suggested that we *both* travel to a neutral city so that neither one of us gets screwed on travel costs. Clearly, you're not only a coward, you're also a cheapskate.

"as for you not believing my status as a veteran, well i can't do a thing about that over the internet."

That's right. You can't. And you're no veteran, disabled or not. You're also bullshitting about being 200% disabled. There's no such thing. You might have disabilities that *add up* to 200%, but no matter how many disabilities you have, there's no such thing as being more than 100% disabled, as far as the VA health system is concerned.

"it makes no difference to me if you believe me or not."

Then STFU about it, liar.

"however if you look at the last post on this thread i said i was a veteran before you and i got in this tussle."

So what? You also repeated a slanderous lie about Max Cleland. And I'm going to beat your ass for it.

Here, kitty kitty kitty.

"and i think gays should be allowed to serve, as you can see from that post. now, keyboard commando, what say you?"

Dude. I'm sorry that you couldn't serve openly in the Armed Forces. Most people here support your right to serve your country openly, even if you are otherwise a coward, a liar and a jerk.

Unlike your cowardly ass, I'm not looking for advantage. I want to meet you in person, whereupon I shall kick your lying, cowardly ass. You pretty clearly don't want it to happen, as you demand that I both travel to you on short notice and negotiate my way though a snowstorm to get there.

That's cowardice. On your part.

"i mean you could sucker punch me as i have no idea who you are or what you will be wearing."

If we agree to a time and place, I shall not only tell you what I'm wearing, I'll even e-mail you a photo so you can run away when you see me coming. Put up or shut up, coward.

"you want to put this off till memorial day in any big city west of the mississippi. well you can't really be too pissed at me, i'm thinking"

No, I'm furious at you. But you're not important enough for me to take time off from work to kick your ass. Of course, if you'd like to fly down here on a weekend between now and Memorial Day, I'll gladly beat the stuffing out of you on *any* Saturday or Sunday between now and then. Hell, you could even come down here *this* weekend and I'd gladly oblige you.

How about it, coward? Up for a little weekend trip to my city?

"will i be allowed to hit you back or do you object to that?"

On the contrary. I look forward to you hitting me back. Assuming you're still conscious, that is.

"this passed a comedy along time ago, when you punked out."

No, this is serious. And the only one punking out is you. I'm still trying to fix a time, a day and a place. You're hiding behind a snowstorm and trying desperately to talk your way out of this. You're pathetic.

"now to allow you to punch me in my face, i must wait till memorial day, cross the mississippi, go to any big city, and wait for you."

No, you need to negotiate a time, date, city and location with me. Do you have other ideas for date and location? Bring them on, coward.

"wow, thats alot of conditions you place on me"

Again you lie. I have invited you to make a counter-offer if you wish. Nothing I have said with respect to date or location is set in stone, which is quite different from your intemperate demands.

"plus i don't even know if the rules will let me hit you back."

You can certainly hit me back. If you're still conscious.

i placed no such conditions on you.

You're a liar. You've demanded that I show up in another state, that I do so on very short notice, that I take time off from work to do so and that I make my way through a major snowstorm, or else concede to you.

Riiiight. No conditions at all. Lying pissant.

why not just go change your panties, take a cold shower, a few xanax, and realize how stupid you are sounding in front of all your friends.

Fuck you, coward. Why not negotiate a time, date, city and location and take your best shot at me? Unlike you, I'm still trying to make this happen.

i bet your story tomorrow will be that you challenged someone to a fight but they punked out.

Well, you have punked out. You've demanded that I travel through a major snowstorm to meet you on less than 72 hours' notice, and you refuse to negotiate a time, date, city and location to meet in good faith. So yeah, you punked out. But I shouldn't be surprised that the Cowardly Lyin' jjd didn't have the stones to meet.

"you of course will leave out the conditions you set."

And you, of course, will conveniently fail to mention that you hid behind a snowstorm to get out of a fight.

as you well know you can't collect 100% disabilty pay from the VA unless the total of all your service connected injuries add up to at least 200%. of course you can't collect twice the maximum. if you are rated at 100% you collect, for pay purposes, about 50%, and its not pro-rated. being paid at 50% will bring in about $625 per month, while BEING PAID AT 100% will bring in $2673 for a single person with no dependents. if you are a disabled vet you already know this, your rating is not what you get paid. someone like cleland probably has over 300% of disabilities.but of course can only collect 100% for pay purposes. you are either not a DAV like you claim, otherwise you would know this, or as president sham-wow does, trying to mis-lead.

I have a DD214 and a rating letter from the VA. Anything you have to say about it is irrelevant.

i actually liked cleland and was sorry to see him lose the senate seat. but he would never use his wounds to further his career. as for my other claims of being a veteran tell me how to prove it to you. if you served you could ask questions that veterans would know that civilians would not. since i'm in the VA healtcare system, you could ask the name of my doctor and what hospital i go to, you could ask what my MOS or AFSC was, i could provide the job code, you could ask for the code on my military id card, which since i have one proves that i am either 100% disabled due to my service or am either active duty or retired military.i could tell you all about an m-16 or an m-79 and how to maintain them.you could ask technical questions, what bases i was stationed at, i don't know what else to say........i will still be in AC on tuesday, the snow is over by tomorrow. but now, we are both being silly. you, by walking up to me and punching me in my face, if it were to happen, would wind up in jail, even if i was to survive a brutal blow. i would also go to jail, assuming i survived that great punch of yours, and wind up in jail. so this ain't happening, you aren't coming here and i'm not going west of the mississippi just to receive a punch from you. my counter offer is this, you stay west of the mississppi and i'll stay east of it, for now. if either of us is to cross the mighty mo then perhaps a date and time can be worked out. we could use TPM as correspondence as we are both always on the site. now i go to bed, i'll check tomorrow.

You're a liar and a coward. And after reposting the false slander about Max Cleland, I can tell that you're also not fit to polish his boots.

Always the same post when I read this stuff--Who votes for these people? Oh right, the ones just surveyed in the Daily Kos poll.

Chambliss thinks we "[must] exclude persons whose presence in the armed forces would create unacceptable risk to the armed forces' high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion."

This guy is such a sonofabitch that I don't even know where to begin.

Like many right wing Christian extremists, they think that all gay people are Satan-worshipping meth-heads who are dying to molest your four-year-old and then use their blood for ceremonies to bring about the reign of the Jewish-Chinese Antichrist: Obama.

Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. But not by much.

(EXCERPT) According to NPR*, “In 2003, a survey of female veterans found that 30 percent said they were raped in the military. A 2004 study of veterans who were seeking help for post-traumatic stress disorder found that 71 percent of the women said they were sexually assaulted or raped while serving. And a 1995 study of female veterans of the Gulf and earlier wars, found that 90 percent had been sexually harassed."... http://newsjunkiepost.com/2010/01/26/13rd-of-women-in-us-military-raped/

So Sucksby Shambliss, oafish child of privilege, appears unaware of bodyart's historic connections to military service and the western tradition of homosexual general officers...
You should have been the pretty boy at private school, Sucksby.

I would be willing to wager that male service members are substantially more prone to "Alcohol use, adultery, fraternization, and body art" than are female service members. Which, following Saxby's argument, would suggest we need to ban men from the military. Interesting thought.

i think times have changed and gays should be allowed to serve. the younger generation today is more tolerant of gays then when i was in. also, more young people today have experimented with gay sex. what goes on in someone's bedroom is not our business, as long as they are old enough and no one is hurt. however i can't leave this site without a digg, i shudder to think what goes on in some of the bedrooms from the posters on this thread, as it is i think you all wear women's underwear, unless of course you are a women, in which case 'boxers' are your choice.

for a group that models their tactics after a number of prominent, historical pedophiles and homosexuals... the armed forces should stop being in denial. Nobody cares that you want to screw in each other in the butt. I'm sure you really, REALLY love your brother, dudes. You are the reason why the world is a genetic mix of mutations and tyranny. Nobody cares that all of you in the military are gay in one form or another. Stop taking it out on people not as fortunate as yourself to leave your blow buddy and butt buddy back behind in either college, middle, or high school. That fact is you had one, and your inability to acknowledge that truth is what makes you f+ggots, vs. a homosexual being a human being.
