Blitzer: CNN's 'Dept. Of Jihad' Chyron Was Offensive

CNN's Wolf Blitzer just expressed regrets for a graphic shown yesterday that read, "Dept. of Jihad?"

"CNN had no intention of suggesting that the Justice Department supports terrorism," he said. "Lawyers at the Justice Department are patriotic Americans, and we certainly regret any confusion that may have been caused by our graphic."

The graphic came before a segment yesterday on the ad by Liz Cheney's group that attacks DOJ officials who previously represented Guantanamo detainees.

A chyron during the segment asked, "Are Justice Department Lawyers Disloyal?"

Blitzer referenced the storm of criticism the segment set off on Twitter, which was initiated by Salon columnist Glenn Greenwald.

The Cheney ad has been sharply criticized by many high-profile attorneys and organizations including the American Bar Association.

The issue raised in the Cheney ad came to the fore after letters to the DOJ written by Sen. Chuck Grassley and signed by all of the Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans. The Republicans demanded a list of names of the lawyers who had represented detainees.

The phrase "Dept. of Jihad?" was taken by CNN straight from the Cheney ad, which showed an editorial from Investor's Business Daily with that title.

Here's the video of Blitzer Friday evening:

Cable news is the absolute epitome of a 'vapid wasteland'. The Home Shopping Network has more societal value than CNN.

I think this is actually a different kind of weasel-apology. It's not the usual "well I'm sorry you got mad" dodge; it's a little more subtle.

This is the "I didn't mean to do the thing I clearly meant to do" version. "I take full responsibility for the thing I clearly had no responsibility for."

Maybe someone at CNN really, honestly feels bad about this after the fact. But that doesn't mean it wasn't exactly what you meant to do at the time!

Blitzer was one of the reasons I stopped watching CNN. If CNN is paying him more than minimum wage they're being cheated.

CNN is really the worst. FOX news is almost paradoxically "honest" in its sheer brazen disregard for journalistic standards and their duties. Even without FOX, CNN is quite capable of pulling this country's political discourse into the sewer. And I have an easier time picturing the likes of O'Reilly and even Hannity letting just a sliver of doubt enter their minds at night when surveying the role they play in American politics than the likes of Blitzer or John King.

That apology struck me as amazingly hollow. The fact that they are quoting Cheney dynasty claptrap seems meant as an explanation, but I found it more damning than even the obnoxiously partisan graphic itself.

The worst thing about CNN is Fox devotees citing it as a counterbalance, to absolve themselves from the private shame of consuming so much partisan pap I suppose. I ask them why would balanced need a counterbalance? They always get the joke because they do know "fair and balanced" is an absurdity, but apparently they don't know how far down the rabbit hole they've gone because even a few moments of heavily diluted reality from CNN can jar them to flip back to Fox in wanton fleeing from perceived liberal bias.

I don't have television anymore so I don't have extensive field experience, but everything I've seen indicates that as a concept televised news has become an oxymoron. Talking heads and corporate agendas. Networks of Jihad? if anything.

It is a legitimate question, irregardless of where they received their journalistic training. It is a fact: Someone claimed Wolf Blitzer is a child molester. Therefore, since Wolf Blitzer is a child molester, it must have an impact on his career.

Child molester or not, (you decide!) Wolf is the most preposterous man in America. The way he glides around that newsroom of his, tries so hard to evince all the trappings of a "serious newsman" and fails so miserably to perform even the most basic functions of a journalist - he makes me laugh but also leaves empty and hopeless afterwards. He's how an idiot, shut-in screenwriter would portray a hefty newsman, yet he is real!

Wolf Blitzer is the point man for Zionist propaganda in America. As a "former" lobbyist for Israel, his job is to sell Al Queda and bin Laden as the boogiemen of the world, responsible for all our problems and worth sacrificing our liberties to fight.

He casually and repeatedly describes all Muslims as terrorists, so we won't think twice about killing them, or Israelis killing them.

He keeps presenting the official 9/11 fairy tale as fact, when not one fact on the planet supports it.

Otherwise, his job is to confuse us about what is really happening in our country...and who is responsible for the problems (and the world) we are having.

We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Why does CNN (or any responsible business) pull such stunts in the first place? Say you walk up to a stranger and hit them in the face with a hammer? Anger ensues, onlookers point out you were REALLY wrong to do it, and you profusely apologize. Apologize? WTF? You didn't know before you did it it was wrong? Where the hell is it incumbent upon CNN to know not to do this sort of thing beforehand? Somebody prominent should say "Screw your apology, are you incapable of thinking before you act? That's the bigger issue here. How about you skip the apology and let someone dissect, on the air, your editorial shortcomings?" It's as if they have Soundbite Tourette's. It really is disgusting and what is more disgusting is it is always, always, always, always false and unsubstantiated repuke talking points. And then you have anderson bullsh*tter saying "we'll get the facts and you decide" on some bullsh*t talking point and guess what? They never do.

CNN is a terrible and has been playing on its legacy for almost a decade now. They are worse then fox because of that legacy. At least fox is "honest" and is proud to be a repuke propoganda outlet. CNN blatantly conceals that they are a right-wing propoganda outlet. Disgusting.

Finally CNN gets the coverage it deserves for being the absolutely center of the Republican Party's talking points and support of the entire party, they are the Republican's Party's best advocated

David Gurgen a pathetic looser, who since the Bush Administration's Fran joined CNN has become the Republican Party's Biggest Supporters and they have no shame.

CNN has been doing this for quite sometime and some of us were complaining but the Mainstream media just didn't pick up on their Right Wing views

John King married to Danna Bash and their Right wing talking points, Gloria BOrgier is just the worst and I noticed that very few Dems are showing up soemtime ago before we stopped watching this Republican FIXED NEWS STATION

I magine our surprise when CNN began using BIG BANNERS FOR THEIR RIGHT WING REPUBLICAN FRIENDS to announce the next topic

CNN has 20 Anaylsts sitting around 2-3 Tables giving their personal opinions nothing ever researched, no investigative reporting, just CHIT CHAT

With so many Americans being out of work, it must be nice to have 20 Pundits just talking trash

CNN never does it's homework, never ask the right questions and will bring on guests who they know are sponsors of the Republican Agenda and won't question them

The one guy who had the biggest Fraud and Abuse Claim filed against HCA while he was CEO came on CNN bashing the Administration

Richard Scott, "the former chief executive of HCA Inc," had formed the non-profit organization Conservatives for Patients' Rights as part of a "lobbying campaign[] to derail or modify" President Obama's health care proposals, but failed to note that Scott resigned from HCA in 1997 amid a federal investigation into the company's Medicare billing, physician recruiting, and home-care practices.

HCA eventually pleaded guilty to fraud charges and paid approximately $1.7 billion in fines and penalties.

CNN was very aware of his involvement in the BIggest Fraud and Abuse Settlement with the Department of Justice in history yet they refused to ask the guy any questions and let him go on and on about he Obama administration

This is what CNN does refuse to infrom the public of these schisters backgrounds and treat them as if they are ligitimate players and mislead the public

They let these guys go on and on as if they are ligimate and have clean hands

Campbell Brown and the crew every CNN analysts is guilty of this hiding the turth from the viewers

CNN is famous for hiding the turth about the people they interview and there have been many more that CNN refuses to question

CNN should take a page from Rachel Maddow she's the only person in cable who goes after the truth and nothing but the truth and exposes these schisters.

WOlfe interviewed Mit Romney and had a huge chart up showing that the Republicans pushed this economy in the toliet and was loosing jobs up to Millions a month and it showed that the Obama administrtion had stopped the bleeding and now only 36,000 per month are lost

Wolfe asked Mitt and he said no the Obama Administration did nothing to stop the bleeding it's called a recovery and it took care of itself and that would have happened no matter who was in office

What a dummy and Blitzer refused to call him on that lie

I don't watch anymore just tuned in to see if the backing of the Republicans with shameless coverage was continued and it was

So no CNN and our friends don't watch and we tell their friends not to watch

The only way to hold this CNN accountable is to stop watching

Since they can spend Millions on putting 20 analysts on one man President Obama everytime his name comes up and they sit around and Chit Chat about their personal views they can afford to do some real investigative reporting

But after all it's about the ratings, they simply don't check the facts

So SNL script of them this weekend was accurate they CNN don't check anything and can be PRANKED anytime for their lack of validation or even caring about telling the vieweres the truth.

CNN morning with Karen Chetry and John is absolutely pathetic same age old problem,

David Gurgen, by far the very worst with his buddy Fran from the bush administration

Fran was on and called the TSA Nominee who withdrew his nomination "A LIAR", "HE"S LYING SHE SAID" Anderson Cooper quickly changed the subject, she said the dems "HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR NOMINEE

Not one media outlet caught this interview, she was lying on the air protecting the Republicans with no shame, they BLOCKED this nominee and they keep talking about security but have been blocking the TSA head of Airport Security Post for months

Yea they are really concerned, the nominee withdrew his nomination because of the games being played by the Republicans and there' still no one in that slot

The Republicans were blocking the TSA Nominee because they said he would let the TAS become part of a union, that's because of low wages that are causing significant turnover and becoming part of the union would secure a better salary and benefits for those employees and thus improve the turnover

However Republicans could care less about the TURNOVER YOU KNOW THOSE VERY PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING AIR TRAVELERS SAFE

WHAT A JOKE!

For all the grief (deserved) that FOX gets CNN is just about as worthless as an unbiased news source.
