Last Friday, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly tried to work out where they differ on the definition of progressivism:

Beck: It's Marxism without a revolution.

O'Reilly: They just want to take your stuff.

Case closed.

On The O'Reilly Factor, Beck and O'Reilly debated what it really means to be a progressive.

Beck said: "People don't understand what 'progressive' really means. The difference between Marxism and progressivism is, Marxism has a revolution, like what Van Jones would like to do. Progressivism says, 'bit by bit we'll eat at the Constitution.'"

O'Reilly disagreed: "Progressivism wants to take your stuff. That's it. That's what it is. It wants to take your stuff."

Beck asked: "They don't want to kill you?"

"No! Because then they won't have your stuff," O'Reilly shot back.

Beck wasn't finished: "I will go a step further. They don't just want to take your stuff. They want to control every aspect of your life."

O'Reilly demurred: "I don't think Obama cares what you do in your spare time."

Idiot factor aside, the really scary part of this is that Fox leads the cable "news" ratings, and "loss-leader" Beck is still on, despite having lost virtually all of his sponsors.

Beck is also on the Murdoch-owned Sky News in Britain with ZERO advertisers. Almost makes you think Murdoch has an ulterior motive.

I don't think that there was ever any denying it. Although it was Robert Ailes that really drove the networks to this point.

Progressivism = Allowing a woman to sue you for sexist abuse if you call her at home and threaten to rub a falafel all over her wet body.

As this cost Bill'O $2 million+, it's bad.

With Beck, up is down, right is left, fat is thin, so even addressing his BS is a waste of time.

Bill O'Reilly And Glenn Beck Define Progressivism?

WRONG! O'Reilly and Beck define the term "horse's ass."

If you looked up the definition of the term "horse's ass," you'd find a picture of those two: O'Reilly, red-faced, screaming epithets at the camera, and Beck, with his little red clown ball nose, crying for the camera.

"The difference between Marxism and progressivism is, Marxism has a revolution"......

oh yeah, and one small thing called a democratic election,....remember the one you lost? And the reason you lost it is because the majority of Americans are progressives,...deal with it. Your 60000 march on Washington last summer is a sliver of what it took to get Obama elected. Who are these pinheads?

If this is what passes for political discourse at faux news then I shudder to think what passes at comedy.

O'Reilly: They just want to take your stuff.

This is about as intellectual as Bill gets. I've read excerpts from his books. They read like they were written by a ninth grader. Seriously.

What's not to like about the historic Progressive Movement in the United States? Maybe there is a mechanism that would work more perfectly than the income tax, but on the whole the achievements of this era stand up well.
http://regentsprep.org/Regents/ushisgov/themes/reform/progressive.htm

One constant in the long history of progressive thought in political action has been that it aims to make government more responsive to the direct voice of the American people. Isn't this what Beck and O'Reilly cry out for?

I'd love to see Beck or O'Reilly in debate forum with Barbara Ehrenreich or E.J. Dionne, Jr. Put Beck and/or O'Reilly in a situation where substantive points must be made and defended; the mindless drama of their repetitious buzzwords will be revealed. Beck can even bring his chalkboard if he wishes.

The scary thing is that this proves Jon Stewart was right. Saying that progressives don't want to kill you "Because then they won't have your stuff" and that "I don't think Obama cares what you do in your spare time" makes you the voice of reason on Fox. O'Reilly is only batshit crazy, not utterly, spiking your coffee with Quaaludes, paste-eating crazy, like Beck is.

progressive= new name of liberals who figured out they could not win elections while being identified as a liberal. this name change initially was successful, but died a sudden death in november 2010 when americans figured out that a turd is turd no matter the name.

Theodore Roosevelt was a Progressive. Look up 1912. The name is not new.

not to mention that a progressive in 1912 is nothing like a progressive in 2010. why not just call yourselves what you are? marxists. name 1 thing that is marxist that obama or pelosi don't agree with.

"Progressive" has been around a long time. In Sorensen's accounts, JFK was always weary of the "progressives" in his base.

I always saw "progressives" as sitting to the left of "liberals" But I dont think that is how many people see it any more.

Anyway...as a progressive, I dont want or need anything that Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reily has to offer; bat shit is pretty much free for the asking allready.

Wow. I agree with Bill O'Reilly. This is crazy. I'm a progressive, and yes, I want to take stuff away from the wealthy, because it's necessary to the common good. No argument there. Cool. I'm starting to like O'Reilly? Wacky.
