Sarah Palin spoke to an audience in Alberta, Canada, over the weekend. Interestingly enough, she claimed that while growing up, her own family would seek out health care in Canada -- a country with a single-payer health care system.

Palin has attacked President Obama and the Democrats for their health care proposals, warning that they would result in a government-run system and create "death panels" that would condemn the unfit to die from a lack of health care.

The Canadian Press reports:

The vocal opponent of health care reform in the U.S. steered largely clear of the topic except to reveal a tidbit about her life growing up not far from Whitehorse.

"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," she said. "And I think now, isn't that ironic."

Canada's single-payer health care system, known as Medicare, was established in 1966. Its principal founders were Tommy Douglas, leader of the social-democratic New Democratic Party and former Premier of Saskatchewan, and Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson of the Liberal Party. It had previously been implemented at the provincial levelĀ in Saskatchewan in the early 1960s, under Douglas's leadership.

At the time of Canadian Medicare's passage, Palin was two years old.

Palin has previously called for at least a partial privatization of Canada's health care system. In November 2009, Palin was apparently tricked by the Canadian sketch-comedy news show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and was asked a question about Canada's health care system by an actress posing as a fan of hers from Canada. Palin answered: "In fact Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed. So thank you, keep the faith."

Palin's PAC could not be immediately reached for comment.

"And I think now, isn't that ironic."

You're goddamn right it is. I guess it would be too much to ask you to puzzle out the significance of that irony.

Yeah. It's also ironic that all of the Palins get socialized healthcare through Indian Health Services because the First Dud is part Eskimo.

I also find it ironic that the father of Canada's healthcare system, Tommy Douglas, is Keifer Sutherland's grandfather.

If you asked her, I'm sure she would probably say, "it's like rain on your wedding day," and then you would have to explain to her, "no, no, you dumbshit, that's not irony, that's more like cosmic indifference. Irony is when you condemn something that you have benefitted from, and try to keep other people from enjoying those same benefits, i.e., single-payer health care. See also: Clarence Thomas, affirmative action."

Not nearly as ironic as railing against "socialism" as an ex-governor of a state that redistributes oil money to *every* resident. But that's the best part about being Caribou Barbie - you don't have to worry about pesky ol' facts and reality.

They would have had to pay. Non-residents don't get free healthcare in Canada. I have Canada health and have sought US medical care also. No big deal since we're border countries. Thousands do it from both countries to meet certain needs.

I agree that it is remarkably common and normal in border communities, but I don't think the issue is whether or not she paid. It's that she'd avail herself of services she's basically characterized as substandard, socialistic, and obviously death-inducing.

Once again she shows her lack of communication skills and basic understanding of the English language by using the word "ironic."

No, you money whore, it isn't "ironic". It's disgusting. The Canadian government needs to sue your family for the tax money their citizens spent to keep you and your pack healthy.

This makes me wanna vomit.

The more the TundraTart is out there talking the more she shows her ignorant hypocrisy. When the Palin's go after Levi in the custody battle the other shoes will drop, like at Bush in Bagdad. Levi know more, youbetcha!

Yeah, Super-sonic Sarah spoke to a cheering, enchanted crowd in Calgary. Hundreds of articles on the web all weekend about her exciting speech to appreciative Canadians who, like Sarah, want to develop energy resources in a responsible manner, and are skeptical about the "junk science" behind so called "global warming". When Gov. Palin speaks, serious people pay attention.

No, it's miraculous; you actually THINK now.
Sarah "if I only had a brain" Palin thinks.
It's like the "Wizard Of Oz" in real life...
and THAT is what's ironic.

"junk science"?

What about the "junkie science" behind what's called "Rush Limbaugh"?
The thing looks like Jabba the Hutt.
