As I wrote in another thread here:
Fact is, these ignorant bastar*ds want another Civil War, and being "civil" is the last thing on their minds. They're using HCR and other issues to fan the flames of civil strife and revolution. One only has to listen to Beck or Bachman for five minutes to know this. I say, LET'S GIVE IT TO THEM!

They think all progressives are wimpy, stupid, unarmed idiots, who won't fight for their beliefs. Little do they know, there are millions of progressives and liberals who love this nation (and what it once stood for), and will fight to prevent it from falling into the hands of fascist wingers like the Tea Party Nuts. When a two fingered peace sign turns into a poke in the eye, perhaps that will get their attention.

"How would it work?". Heck if I know. I do know, that we need to go toe to toe, nose to nose with these tea baggers, and not let them intimidate us as citizens, or Democrats. I also know, that if they want to escalate things further, which would be a huge mistake on their part, that they should be forewarned that there are those who will fight them, tooth for tooth. That was my point.

That said, I abhor violence, but turning the other cheek to these fascists will simply get you stomped to the ground. If their aim is to harm me or mine, or my country, as peaceable as I am, I (and millions of others) will fight them, ....and win.

March 25, 2010 2:50 AM    in reply to Hornito

Hornito, you're completely mistaken if you think anyone wants a Civil War. They are against HCR because its over spending, over taxing, and will do more harm than good. No one is "using" it except the progressives to further along their socialist agenda. And how dare you say that there are millions of progressives and liberals who love the nation (and what it once stood for). Progressives have done nothing but try and CHANGE what America has stood for since it's inception. America is not in danger of falling into the hands of "fascist wingers like the Tea Party nuts"... It is falling into the hands of the American People. Judging by your second post...

-----"How would it work?". Heck if I know. I do know, that we need to go toe to toe, nose to nose with these tea baggers, and not let them intimidate us as citizens, or Democrats. It sounds as if you really want violence. You want to fight the Tea Party activists. If only you knew the truth, that they LOVE our founding fathers and are only standing up for what the founding fathers wanted... what they placed into our constitution.

It is not up to congress to "give" us or to "vote" us in a NEW unalienable right. Our rights come from God, not congress.

I dont know if you saw the latest MSNBC poll, (you know, that idiot fucking station full of retards like Keith Olbermann) but it even says that 64% of the people DONT want HCR.

Thank God for the Tea Party, at least they have the balls to stand up for the truth and what is right. Take your socialism progressive bullshit and shove it up your ass.

No, not by itself, but having all those assets in the heart of the South would not be the same as an occupying force in a foreign country, there would be conflicting feelings that would cause serious problems. Long time postees in regions often adopt the beliefs of the area they are in, and then retire to the region as a result. How many times have you heard conservative political comments from military personnel in the South, or from military retirees who decided they liked the climate and stayed there?

Ya, the statements about civil war are from the backward, ignorant, southerners northerners or who ever supports them.

Any way if they would just secede from the union again we could go ahead and take our Federal Government owned property and then cut off Virginia from their state welfare Virginia gets about 30 cents in federal welfare for every dollar they put into the treasury. If they would only go ahead and secede we would raise the average IQ of the United States by at least 25% and we would save tax money we are now giving these ignorant bastards as well.

I wouldn't worry because they're authoritarians. Their leaders know that if HCR passes it will be a gold mine for them when it makes their followers more fanatical. They'll gain viewers, they'll sell more books and seats to see them speak will become more valuable. Why would they want to encourage a civil war when they can sit back, spew nonsense and watch the benjamins flow into their bank accounts?

Mike Malloy, on his show this week, conjectured that we are at the end of the United States. Many other futurists have said the same. The country will break into segments with separate governance. Mike is fine with that. So am I. I am so sick of the 19th century ass-hat consciousness of my fellow citizens that I really do not want them in my country.

In the case of the bat-s*it lady in the clip, she seems to assume that folks in the Coastal and Northern areas would actually take up arms to KEEP THEM IN THE UNION. Go away!

Though - I cannot deny, the delicious beauty of Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter sneaking over the border and making less than minimum wage busing tables or tending the gardens for the newly minted US citizens we'd be able to give a path to citizenship without the secessionist class makes me a bit giddy.

If you think we are crazy, just remember that lady at Barney Frank's town hall, the one who kept going on and on about how the health plan was the fruition of Hitler's attack on the feeble and disabled -- you know, the "dining room table" of conversationalists.

Reasons for Civil War:

Repression of a populace by those in charge
Cruel treatment of citizens by those in charge
Unfair taxation to benefit those in charge
Malfeasance by those in charge

et cetera

Reasons NOT to have a Civil War:

Those in charge vote to give citizens an equal opportunity to get health care.

As a Virginian, I can say there are a lot of stupid people here. On the other hand, I feel really smart most of the time.

Firstly, once the bill becomes law and the immediate strictures become effective, kids, older folks under 65 with PEC's and so on, the rabid Goebbels/Ailes sound machine will have to shift gears towards more pressing matters like the huge stack of house passed legislation waiting for the Senate to engage.

The more the uber right gins up the success, the more folks will be exposed to the realistic changes, and not the kool-aid.

What folks forget to acknowledge is that the GOP has more seats on the block, and that the proletariat does not suffer fools well, and well, fools are running to the right of the GOP these days.

Bottom line, those who vote, will not be comforted by all of the vitriolic reactionary spew, and will remain in the middle.

Bring it on bitch. This is the same fight Western man has had to fight against the forces of religion, ignorance and superstition since the fall of Rome. No question we've regressed towards a kind of modern Dark Age as a result of these people and their willful ignorance. It took a black President to really set it off. We NEED a Civil War to set things right once and for all.

The fascist Jackassocrats have no idea of the shitstorm coming their way if they are able to bribe, extort, or threaten enough House members to force this monstrosity into law against the will of the people.

The South lost big time the first time around and you extreme minority of malcontents who prefer threatening violence to winning elections by convincing your neighbors of the correctness of your views -- democracy in action -- propose to commit treason in the literal sense defined in the Constitution. 1. Madison didn't write the Second Amendment. He codified the PROPOSED amendments submitted by several states with their Notices of Ratification of the Constitution, then submitted that codification to Congress as a resolution for debate.

In short: CONGRESS wrote the Second Amendment.

2. Congress' DEBATES of that which became the Second Amendment begin with this question:

Shall we establish a standing army -- the BANE of liberty -- or rely instead on the militia. That is the entire substnace of the debate which resulted in the Second Amemdment, the first draft of which illustrates that fact:

"The right of the people [PLURAL, as in, "We the people"; it isn't, "We the individual," or, "I the people"] to keep and bear arms [in the MILITIA] shall not be infringed; a well armed, and well regulated militia [NOT "individual"] being the best security of a free country [NOT "individual"]: but no person [INDIVIDUAL] religiously scrupulous of [AGAINST] bearing arms [in the MILITIA], shall be compelled [INVOLUNTARY, as in DRAFT] to render military service [in the MILITIA] in person." "Creating the Bill of Rights: The Documentary Record from the First Federal Congress," Ed. by Veit, et al., at 30.

3. Later in the debates ANTI-Federalist Elbridge Gerry summed up the issues of the debate in this statement:

"What, sir, is the use of the militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. Id., at 182.

That OBVIOUSLY means: the Framers opposed establishing a standing army becasue they viewed such as a THREAT to the gov'ts they established. They decided to rely instead on the militia becaues they DID NOT intend that the militia threaten the gov'ts they established.

4. And your history- and law-illiterate pseudo-patriotism is ANTI-American, as the Constitution stipulates --

Art. I., S. 8, C. 15. The Congress shall have Power To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, [and] SUPPRESS INSURRECTION.

The "Declaration is not only not law, but it also CONDEMNS your ANTI-Americanism:

[King George III] has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

I had a friend who taught for 35 years in the public school system- he told me repeatedly that to control this country was simple, you just had to make 'em all dumb. Dumb down the school system dumb down the media. Non-thinkers, non-evaluaters are followers, becoming sheep to be led by the most persistent barking voice. Glenn Beck says it is so, it MUST be so since I have no thinking skills nor desire to think.

Yeah, guess that's all it took over such a short time.. So easily done, wasn't it. And now in the new Rome Empire, back to watching American Idol we all go, tralala, trala.

At some time in life or history people are always faced with cutting the cord to the past and what could have been or might have been but what never became. I think we Americans are faced with that situation right now. We tried to integrate the south into America. God knows we tried. It is time for America to cut the cord and let the South secede. Make sure they pay their share of the National Debt to us and let them form their own tyranny of the uneducated and fairytale believers without dragging the rest of us down with them.

I've always wondered what would happen if all of the Conservative cranks, racists, Ayn Rand worshippers, and Neo-Confederates started their own country.

It wouldn't last five years without becoming a failed state. People need good government. Our founding fathers fought and died for good government, not the absence of government.

Let them start a country. Does anyone remember how Republican oasis Colorado Springs can no longer afford to maintain its streets and streetlights because of a lack of tax revenue? Or how Reagan's favorite city, San Diego, refuses to raise enough tax revenue to pay for its pension liabilities and services. Classic Republicanism: cut taxes, don't cut spending, and don't worry about the deficit. Let them start a country.

Actually, I was most interested in the idea she presented that this will cost a lot of money. Apparently when the CBO says it will cost 870 Billion over 10 years but there will be a reduction in the deficit of 112 Billion dollars she fails to understand that means the overall costs will be lower. Add to this lower overall cost the fact that an additional 30 million people will be covered so they will not go to the emergency room for every problem. This is where the cost savings are. Pay less and cover 30 million more people. Hey what a concept. Right, let's have a civil war over this benefit.

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Bob Jones U. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share...and, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

There's a reason why they call public utilities public utilities - they are used by the public, and useful to the public; they ARE the public who in one way or another paid for those services to be there. In normal times, the services will be there, someone will watch over them to ensure they get proper maintenance and upkeep and keep providing what they should. But these are not normal times. This, after all is the Republic Depression.

Look around the map; all the states must have a budget. Those with diminished revenue will have to reduce expenditures. Those with Republican governors will see this as a golden opportunity, not to collect revenue but rather to cut employees, programs, previously agreed to services, and go back to skin-and-bone government. That's what they've done in Arizona. That's what they've done in New Jersey, and there will be more in the next few months.

While Wall Street smiles, the nation burns. There never was a chance of reconciling with the Republicans in Washington; if you had any idea of what vitriol they spewed at each and every candidate running for president last year your hair would turn white. They don't view this as a contest, they see it as a war.

If they should lose, and I for one hope they do, they will get to pay the price next election, not the Democrats.

As bad as they can be sometimes, I'd rather be for public utility regulation, with the understanding that there actually would BE public utilities. My experience with the private sector leads me to conclude they are no better at managing than anyone else.

Used by the public, useful to the public. You'll never see a health insurance company dispensing antibiotics or checking your EKG results. So tell me, why do we need a bloated rapacious corporate pigpen to tell us how sick we are and how much they won't pay?

So just how is this "civil war", aka the Second War of Southern Treason, going to come about?
The Governors call out their respective National Guards? Then Congress and/or the President immediately calls them into Federal service. Checkmate on that point. Of course, there ARE all those military bases in those states, but I somehow doubt these reality-challenged types would actually know how to start a Abrams tank or a jet fighter, let alone operate one. And as most military members take their enlistment oath seriously, I know I did, these load-mouths really shouldn't count on the 82nd Abne or the Marines at Paris Island.
There were those who wanted to continue fighting a guerrilla war after the conclusion of the 1861-65 War of Southern Treason(Jefferson Davis among them), but Robert E. Lee and Joseph Johnston managed to prevent that. Still, if there are those who try it now the first question will be: what are your targets? The states won't have seceded, nor will they be "occupied" by Yankees in blue coats. So, who are the targets? How do you know if someone has signed up for health insurance? By their not dying?
I could on and on, but then I'm using my brain to think, as opposed to just flapping my gums, as Foghorn would say...

Thing is, these idiots are convinced they're a majority, the same way the Sunnis really, really believed they were the majority in Iraq because Saddam's propaganda ministry kept telling them so. So when they got their asses kicked after the first election, they naturally assumed it must have been due to fraud. Like these idiots.

And so when the Sunnis started their civil war against minority tyranny, they quickly discovered they were outgunned, outnumbered and badly infiltrated by crazy people. Like these people.

Not a chance in Hell.

Besides, what are they going to use for money if the federal reserve embargoes their banks? Cancel all credit and debit cards in the states that rebel. Don't provide check cashing to those banks. Have the NSA hack their computers. Cut off shipments of gasoline and diesel. They wouldn't last a week. No combat required.

Yes, what an advanced country their tax-free republic would be. A self-equipped unfunded army, no public schools, no higher education (waste of money and all they teach is evolution), no research, no regulation (finally, a bathtub we can drown the government in). Also no central bank, because central banks are evil, and the only people who can run for office are those who can serve without a salary.

Oh, and any region can secede whenever they like. A real utopia.

As far as I can tell, the way this works is that you have to show proof that you have health insurance, or you have to pay 5% of your AGI as a penalty. But Crazy Lady probably has insurance. So what's her act of civil disobedience going to be, say she isn't insured even though she is?

Or she could buy insurance but refuse the subsidy. That would show Obama and Pelosi.

Still not getting how this mass resistance is supposed to manifest itself.

actually it's 2.5%, and the max penalty is $2085. Secessionaires can try to civilly disobey the IRS, but maybe they should ask Wesley Snipes how that worked out for him first.

Please, lady. Talk about civil war. Call Obama a fascist, a socialist AND a communist. Promise to assassinate him personally. The crazier you talk now, the bigger the backlash is going to be.

I'm a Generation-X'er, born just after the 1960's ended. What did school and my own reading teach me about political activism? That it was a waste-of-freakin' time. You marched, you signed petitions, you pulled off beautifully surreal street theater protests, and all you accomplished was Richard Nixon's re-election. Late 1980s stereotypes of liberals as humorless, puritan scolds reinforced this effect.

Conservatives aren't just about to get defeated. They're in the process of being proved wrong on the most fundamental levels. Even Fox News won't be able to change that tide in the zeitgeist. What effect is THAT going to have on the next generation of right-wing-minded folks?

Just by the way, Virginia appears to receive from the federal government about $1.50 for every dollar of taxes they pay. In 2005 the difference was 35 billion dollars. If Virginia cared to return that money, over the next decade that alone could pay for one third of the cost of the new health care plan.

Virginians talk a good game about independence, but they are one of the top ten freeloading states in the country.

Depends on the dictionary you use. Now if you use a dictionary of southern English then the word "lagniappe" is legal.

(Means an extra or unexpected gift or benefit - from the Cajun in Louisiana.)

Southern English is also better than the standard Midwestern English which has no distinct plural for "you." In Southern, the plural of you is "y'all."

Northerners would have to learn a new language to win with a southern dictionary. I'm not sure west Coasters could deal with either one.

Since Reagan, the "South" has risen again, and metastasized throughout the nation. Not the real South, the contemporary South, but the much more insidious and dangerous ideology of ante-bellum Southerners (slavery=a proper society) and ante-Civil Rights political powers. The slow creep, creep, creep of ideas states' rights arguments, the fawning over 'rebel' types who are on the side of power, the appeal to an idea of racial and cultural superiority over brown, black, poor and immigrant peoples.

I don't think it can lead to a war that could be fought in the conventional sense. But the rest of us have to confront the deeply misguided notions that are literally driving people like this woman nuts.

You see, their irrational fear of Obama, other than the visceral mind-fucking they got at seeing a Black Man in the White House, is based upon their projection of Bush's reality onto their Obama fantasy. They fear that Obama will wield the power that Bush claimed he had a right to use by virtue of being President in a time of war. My God! An alien, Muslim, Black Man having and using that sort of power. Kinda' uppity dontcha know.

This is not about health care. This is not about health care. Say it with me: "This is not about health care."

On the night of November 4, 2008 these peoples' heads exploded and the Right's Ellsworth Tooheys are going to keep poking the wound in their listener-viewer minds until there is blood shed. They probe their acolytes' minds with their ClearChannelFoxNews electrodes and elicit irrational, unthinking, involuntary responses. Their faithful are drawn to nihilistic fantasies like moths to the flame because only in their self-fulfilling apocalypse will their view of the world be fully realized.

Are they willing to have anothe civil war? Bring it on says I!

One of the reasons we had the long, bloody conflict we did in the 1860's is because nobody stood up to the bellicose forces defending slavery. If we stand up to them now and say "okay, let's do it" they will back down just as Hitler would have if France and the allies had challenged his occupation of the Rhineland. They are nothing but bullies, but as long as Obama and the Dems refuse to stand up to them and let them have it they will keep escalating their behavior until it reaches open violence.

A civil war over HEALTH CARE?! So they would be willing to shed blood over the federal government trying to care for it's own citizens? I don't get it. It's not really about health care at all, it's about paranoid beliefs and hyperbole.

And where does anyone get this idea that "70%" of the US is opposed to HCR? I'm guessing about 25 of those percentage points are liberals who think the bill doesn't go far enough, and those liberals won't be interested in defying the federal government over this bill, like she's trying to portray.

Hey, if Virginia doesn't want to comply, allow them an out, and see where it gets them-- eventually they'll come around with their tails between their legs.

No need to bother with a civil war. Just let the teabag states secede, and become the Teabag States of Amaricas, or some such. Sarah P. can be their first Preznit, Michelle Bachman the power behind the throne, and we all can travel down there for the weather like we already do in Florida. Over time, though, without all the welfare tax income from the blue states gone, visiting the South will become like visiting Juarez.

By the way, I live in Richmond and do not know of anyone who shares this lady's thoughts on reaction to the bill. However, I do find it ironic that the same group that gets so upset over "stereotypes and generalizations", is the same group takes one person's comments and extends it to 25% of the country.
