Ha! As if hitting targets was ever part of the Republican playbook - the *shooting* is the important part. It doesn't matter if a policy doesn't "hit the target" as long as it's ideologically pure - witness the constant push for tax cuts, despite a total absence of any empirical evidence that we're on the negatively sloped portion of the Laffer curve.

For bonus points, she should have actually hit somebody downrange and then made them apologize - the Cheney effect! :)

Trent Franks is District 2 and he's running for re-election.

Gorman is running for District 3, the seat currently occupied by Shadegg who is retiring.

This sort of nonsense would definitely go over well in Franks' district.

In District 3, it's majority GOP but it's not as batshit-insane GOP as District 2. Franks' district is a lot of social conservatives - God, guns, and the Bible. Shadegg's district is much more fiscal conservative - don't raise my taxes, less government.

Forgot to add, Franks doesn't have any primary opposition. The contest is for Shadegg's seat, which is probably a lock for whoever emerges from the GOP crazyfest AKA primary.

I'm not convinced since she isn't shown hitting any targets. Actually she seems to be pretty squirrely with those guns and makes me wonder if that video was her first time at a gun range (or someone's backyard ... hah!). Gun control is being able to hit your target and don't think she could hit the side of a barn.

For what it's worth... I live in District 3. It's John Shadegg's district. It's primarily (if not entirely, can't specifically recall) urban. So this gun-nut pandering wackiness doesn't really go as far here as it might in more rural parts of AZ.

Not if that weapon was imported or manufactured prior to 1986, and (I think) the proper license has been obtained. That weapon looks at least that old to me. What's pretty ridiculous is someone, who (most likely) legally owns those guns, let her use them in a commercial. She can't shoot worth *@#%. Which just makes her out and out dangerous!

It is an old thompson submachine gun and it is legal if you have a federal license for it. A lot of gun stores, who stock such things, allow people to fire their automatic weapons. Her technique sucks though.

What is it about gun nuts that make them believe that owning and/or carrying a gun makes them bullet proof? How often do you hear them say they need to defend themselves against gun wielding thugs and gang members? Do they think the law breaking thugs won't shoot back? Or worse, shoot first?

When you consider the number of people who are fanatical about gun ownership, vs. the number of news stories of a gun successfully used in self defense, vs the number of accidental shootings and suicides of people with guns in their homes, when are they going to realize they are infinitely more likely to get hurt or killed by their own gun than ward off the armies of armed thugs who they believe are out to get them?

Anyone can shoot a gun. Doesn't mean they know what they're doing. The reason she looks out of control is because she doesn't know the first thing about shooting technique. The Thompson machine gun is not meant to hold down the trigger and empty the magazine. It is most effective when firing short bursts. It delivers lot's of fire power, but the way she is firing the weapon she is just putting lead down range. Very ineffective but great theater. Her pistol technique is even worse. Stance is wrong, grip is wrong, body positioning is wrong. But the average gun nut wouldn't know the difference. Pulling a trigger on a gun doesn't make you a bad ass. Knowing how to use a gun and putting lead on center mass makes you a bad ass. She's just a wannabe. Pathetic really.

She's a complete spaz! And then they show her showing a teenager how to fire a gun! Personally, I hate guns but I love cops and spy shows - and I've never see Mariska Hardistay fire a gun like that.

And love the no taxes symbol. It's the only "reading" a viewer has to do. The whole thing's hysterically Pavlovian.
