BP CEO Tony Hayward issued an apology today for his comment last week that his motivation to stop a disastrous oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico comes from his desire to get his life back.
Hayward said in a Facebook post that his comment was "hurtful and thoughtless," and that he "was appalled" with what he'd said.
"My first priority is doing all we can to restore the lives of the people of the Gulf region and their families - to restore their lives, not mine," he wrote.
I made a hurtful and thoughtless comment on Sunday when I said that "I wanted my life back." When I read that recently, I was appalled. I apologize, especially to the families of the 11 men who lost their lives in this tragic accident. Those words don't represent how I feel about this tragedy, and certainly don't represent the hearts of the people of BP - many of whom live and work in the Gulf - who are doing everything they can to make things right. My first priority is doing all we can to restore the lives of the people of the Gulf region and their families - to restore their lives, not mine.
Last week Hayward said: ""Y'know, I'd like my life back. So there's no one who wants this thing done more than I do, and we are doing everything we can to contain the oil offshore, defend the shoreline and return people's lives to normal as fast as we can."

Has any group started a plan to collect oil that washes up and deliver large quantities to BP's headquarters? I think a 10,000 gallon "spill" on their doorstep would make lovely photo ops.

I wouldn't mind having his life back either, but funny thing, he is the one who is ultimately responsible for not having it.
I look forward to some of these kazillionaires deciding they need to spend more time with their families and leave us with the mess they created.
How long before BP pulls a KBR and moves out of the US ?

Why apologize? He said what he felt. Hey, everyone wants to get a distasteful job done, and get his life back. But, the snivel corps is always listening.

I know you troll TPM, but I needed to respond. Of course he wants his life back, but he has to apologize, because it was a stupid thing to say, compared to the dead men from the rig, the millions of people who will be effected economically by this disaster, as well as the giant cesspool his company turned the Gulf into. So, yeah, he said what he felt, but he should have shut his damn mouth, and realized what a self-centered jerk he was for thinking it, let alone saying it.

I realize you a worthless creep paid to provoke, but surely you don't include the families of the 11 workers killed in your snivel corps, now do you? If not, you can apologize now. We are waiting.
