Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) thinks Vice President Joe Biden should "shut up."
Graham said on Fox News today that in order to win in Afghanistan, there needs to be a "unity of effort we've never had before" among civilian leaders, and that the firing of General Stanley McChrystal represents a chance to "get a new group in there."
Of course, Graham suggested, that doesn't mean President Obama is likely to fire Vice President Joe Biden. But "he can tell him to shut up."
On Fox and Friends this morning, Graham said that he agrees with the President's decision to oust McChrystal. He also took a couple of shots at civilian leaders there, saying that Karl Eikenberry, "the current Ambassador to Afghanistan, has a broken relationship with President Karzai" and that "Ambassador Holbrooke is a fine man who has got some friction between him and President Karzai."
This is "a chance to start over," said Graham.
Host Gretchen Carlson argued that the President "can change those guys, but he can't change Vice President Joe Biden. I mean, he could, but he's not going to."
Graham responded: "He can tell him to shut up."

Two questions:
1) Why should Biden "shut the hell up" in the first place?
2) What would the Fox News talking cleavage have said if someone suggested Cheney "shut the hell up"?

Did you hear the cleavage compare being a TV anchor to the presidency? It's a classic.

I don't get it. Now, to be considered reasonable you HAVE to get alone with Karzai? If you don't just sign off on everything his government does you are part of the problem? When did this happen?

Is she under the impression that the President has the power to fire and replace the V.P.? Which Amendment to the Constitution made the V.P. an at-will employee? I must have been out that day.

Republicans keep fantasizing about a super-all powerful Executive--but only if it does their bidding.
Biden was more right about Afghanistan than McChrystal was -- so why should HE be the one to shut up?
I pray that big Oil executive of Afghanistan [Unocal's own Karzai] gets the boot finally, oce the program there isn't run by a snake in the grass

This pansy is heading right down mccains path. Talk tough, change your positions, pander to anyone that will listen, become irrelevant.
Lindsey will be back begging soon, let's call it a Jindal.

There's a big reason that Eikenberry and Holbrooke are having friction with Karzai - and Graham seems to be giving the benefit of the doubt to amoral Karzai, rather than our own Executive branch. I have a big problem with this and seriously question Graham's patriotism.

I didn't see anything in the clip about firing. Perhaps "change" is being used as a stand-in for "fire"? "Change" is far too slippery of a word to be narrowly used in this way, I think, and Graham demonstrates it by talking about change in a different way than firing.
All this to say: The President can't fire Biden in any case, even Rayfield is making the case that this is what the talk was about.

This coming from a man who threw a tantrum when he was told that the Climate Bill would be put on the back burner for immigration reform. Now he will filibuster it. Right back into the partisan party of no.

"In the name of unity, shut the fuck up." Yea, that sounds like Republican sensibility. Just do it my way, so we can have unity.
Anybody else notice that after claiming to agree with ousting McChrystal, Huckleberry began reiterating McChrystal's complaints about the civilian leadership in Afghanistan?
